50p Addition to Autumn on the Bookshelves

I picked up this little bell at the car boot sale a couple of weeks back. It was in one of the boxes of all sorts being sold by one of the house clearance people. I spotted the apple and thought it would be a nice little extra for the top of the bookshelves for Autumn.

I've got more bits and bobs for Autumn and Winter in the cupboard than I have for Spring and Summer, so can have different stuff out and this is what I've brought out of the box for this year.

But maybe it looks a bit brown and dull, so may have a rethink.

Last weekend at the bootsale a man had several of the Beswick Birds that I've mentioned before  and now have an accidental collection of 3! Luckily he wanted £7 Each - so I wasn't even tempted as there was no way was I paying that much when my 3 have been cheap (cheep?). The Chaffinch was 50p in June and the Blue Tit and Wren have been around a few years and were either £1 or 50p. I wonder if he sold his for £7 each?

  1. Hi Sue, have you got an orange piece of material to go underneath the display? That would lift the colour and make it look more autumnal. I think that’s all you need.

  2. I like your autumnal display and the new bell was a great buy . I also have small seasonal displays( Christmas is unsurprisingly by far the biggest). I keep it modest like you, just a few pieces of ceramic and no plastic pumpkins.

  3. Or remove the large dark brown pinecone; it seems to delete all colour in its vicinity.

    1. It hadn't been out of the box for years but I agree - it's too brown

  4. Perhaps you could add some sprays of real or artificial red berries to the left hand side to pick up on the red berries in the picture.

  5. I like your display. Maybe add some small orange flowers or berries, as others have said. £7 seems a lot to ask but maybe he got lucky! Carole R.

  6. I do rather like the large pine cone, a few conkers in a bowl? Or something with a bit of red or orange as someone above has mentioned.

  7. Your seasonal displays are so sweet, Sue. You have reminded me that I should start getting Fall decorations out. Thanks!

  8. I like your Autumn display.
Prices are rising and people are not buying. I was in a store yesterday and shelves are full and not many customers buying. The store announced a new "club for members" whereby members get notice of new product arrivals.
    Things are getting tight!

  9. Great find and a good addition to your display. The pine cone is very dominant so maybe take it away. I also like the idea of a little runner or mat in a bright autumn colour to sit everything on. Catriona

  12. Maybe, if you have something in your craft supplies, spray the cone gold?

  13. Lovely Autumnal display. The bell is a really nice addition. I would have liked the birds, but not at that price.
