Debenham Art Exhibition

As usual I went to Debenham Church to have a look around this years art .

Also as usual the sun was shining making a lot of reflection - so the photos are poor. I just took a few photos of those I liked the look of.

I went first thing Saturday and there are many red dots so Friday must have been busy with buyers which is good .

First one below  is  Helen Maxfield who always has Linocuts in all the local art exhibitions. Someone has bought several of her work here.

Colin would have liked this one below of horses ploughing - he preferred pictures with people in them rather than just views. These four  are water colours by Jim Lait except for the fishing boats which is acrylics.

Two watercolours below by Frances Barthorpe.

These two below are lino cuts by Gillian Thornton

Below in soft pastel is a very unusual view of trees called 'Just Look Up' by Teresa Seals.

I didn't realise this was paper collage until I enlarged it here and I've missed the number so not sure who it's by.

Love the colours in 'Autumn Squash' by Stella Burgess in Acrylics

Below.............I liked these miniatures in Watercolour and Gouache by Wendy Gooch. Anyone of them would have added nicely to my 'art wall' but not at £160 each. I looked her up online and she is well known in the world of miniature paintings.

The catalogue says this one below is a 'Reduction Lino Cut' . It's called One Sunday in Summer and is by Patricia Woodward.

So many talented people!

It was so hot on Saturday morning that it even felt really warm inside the church- I was glad I'd found somewhere in the shade to park and glad to get home again.

Another Look at the Work of Local Artists

 It was the small Art Exhibition in a nearby village at the weekend. I called in to look on my way to Son and DiL's house where I'd been invited for a Sunday roast - very good it was too. Hadn't seen the Grandchildren for a couple of weeks so it was good hear that 6 year old MGS had started Beavers after all - a few weeks ago he was adamant that he Wasn't Going! And YGD has started Brownies, she used to go to Rainbows until they ran out of leaders but wouldn't start Brownies when she was 7 for reasons only known to a 7 year old, so it's good to hear that a year later she's now at Brownies.

Anyway..............the art Exhibition was smaller than some years and I only took a few photos.

Local Artist Reg Siger always has paintings in exhibitions and had 10 on show this time 

including 'Derelict Cottage' . 

And this below is Gipping Church (one of the first I visited in 2018)

Apologies to the artist - but I didn't like these at all - even though I can see they are very good

I took a few other photos but there was a bit too much reflection on them.

Purchased a couple of greetings cards - Southwold Beach by Diana Kearsley and this fun one by Les French, a guy who paints imagined pictures of how things might have been years ago in places round about and puts them on local Facebook pages where he often adds in people and animates them. 

This is his idea of how Haughley Castle would have looked when built . All that's left is the mound (Motte)- and the moat .

Next Art Exhibition is probably in Debenham Church in June - I'd better check on the date.

The First Art Show of the Year

I always go and look at the Annual Easter Art Exhibition at Needham Market Community Centre.

 

I'm afraid I didn't buy a catalogue so can't name the artists or the prices, which I'll probably get told-off about! Apologies.

Just a few photos of some of the paintings I liked.

Bird lino cuts by Norfolk artist Deborah Key, she exhibits at all the local Art Exhibitions. I have two of her pictures on my 'art wall' 

I'm not usually a fan of plant paintings but this one below of Chinese Lanterns is very colourful

General views

These below are quite unusual and fun, all things that can be seen in Suffolk

As usual Helen Maxfield was showing her lino cut prints, she tends to use a different main colour each year. 5 out of the 6 below are hers, the fox is by someone else

There were also lots of unframed pictures and greetings cards but nothing appealed this year.

Debenham Church Art Exhibition

Last week I went to have a look at  this art exhibition in Debenham church - it's one I try and get to every year and this year it was huge with over 500 pieces to look at as well as lots of unframed art and greetings cards.

It was very busy too, lots of people looking and the sun shining,  didn't make for good photos so I didn't take many.

Lino Cuts by Judy Holloway -£155 each

Realistic still life oil paintings. Strawberries, satsuma and marbles by Cate Swinfen £395 each!

Lino cuts in muted colours . The middle one is titled Softly Suffolk. By Anne Townshend £185 each

Giclee Print of original mixed media work.  Covehithe Coastline by Alfie Carpenter. ( A local artist and musician who died from cancer age just 33 in 2023)

Mixed media - looks like glass but is a pourable plastic? whose name I can't remember by Mark Wheeley. Really bad reflections makes a poor photo.

HUGE painting of a gull on blue sky. Apologies - I can't find the artist in the catalogue but I'm sure it said it was £900! on a label at the side of the other similar painting. Not something I would choose to own.

As usual I just bought a couple of cards. There was one unframed painting I liked  - it was £90 and large and would have cost much more to be framed. There is usually something I like in Art Exhibitions but the house would soon be full and bank balance empty if I bought them all!

Then I headed home again to be in time for tennis watching.

First Art Exhibition of the Year

 I didn't get to the big  art exhibition in Needham Market at Easter as the family were staying but on Saturday I popped out to a small one a bit nearer. Last year they had a shortage of  artists exhibiting but there were many more this year and several artists who I don't think I'd seen before.

I didn't take my proper camera which was a mistake as my phone photos are pretty awful! And reflections from windows don't help - apologies.

Reg Siger is definitely an artist I know, he always has his work at various local shows in Mid Suffolk. It was interesting to read more about him.

I like these two below- views of the Lake District by Linda Seager. Pen, ink and watercolour.

Not seen these below anywhere before. They are by Rebecca Rix-Meo and described as Plaster and Pigments

Lovely painting below by Susan Baldrey, Acrylic on Canvas- gorgeous colours but the frame does nothing for it - in my opinion, but then, what do I know, as someone had bought it already!

Abstracts by Leigh Driver, lots of colours but not something I would have.

This little one below I found very appealing ' Cat Going Home' by Chris Lawson. Watercolour

Couldn't buy a painting but I bought a couple of greetings cards - I tried to pick those suitable for sending to men as I'm always short of these.
