I didn't go far, just an hour to the coast and stayed in a semi-detached lodge. With sea-view from the decking and the sound of the sea with the door open.
And very steep steps down to the beach - I didn't bother to go down. Too much for my dodgy knee I reckoned.
In 1968 or 69 a small boy in the first year of Grammar school was killed when there was a cliff fall here - it's mainly sand. Not rocky like cliffs in other parts of the country. We were told in school assembly and some of the girls burst into tears and another fainted.
The site also had tent/caravan/motorhome pitches and some that looked as it they had been parked there all summer or even longer.
I got plenty of Vitamin D, the sun was glorious. The weather is always better on the coast, the air is softer unless there's a North- East wind of course! although it turned wet a couple of afternoons. I slept well - which proves how disturbed I get by the odd bits of passing traffic at home.
I ate out each day - that was a real treat. It was a good opportunity to visit some of the churches in this bit of Suffolk and villages I'd not been to for ages. So lots of church posts to come and some posts about the places I visited too..
A good change of scenery.
Back Soon
I like holidays close to home. Not because it doesn't take long to get there but because it doesn't take long to get back when the holiday is finished!
ReplyDeleteI was soon home and unpacked!
DeleteHow lovely! It sounds idyllic! I always think a change of scenery is a tonic! 😁
ReplyDeleteGlad you did that, it sounds like a good little break. I agree, being by the sea is a tonic, weather doesn't have to be brilliant. Good sleep too, winwin!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the posts.
Penny
Waking to the sound of the sea is on my bucket list, even if it means storms. I wouldn't have to go far from home either - plenty of choice here in West Wales.
ReplyDeleteHolidays are balm for the soul.
ReplyDeleteSad about the little boy. In my 2nd year of teaching, a pupil died, and the Head had to announce it in Assembly. It was awful. Two boys suddenly started beating up the child sitting between them. Turned out they were cross because this little girl smiled. Further enquiries revealed that her granny had died days before, and Mum said "Granny would want you to be brave and smile as you remember the good memories. Thats what we do when people we love die". Her classmates had completely misinterpreted her actions. The next assembly was all about helping others cope with sadness.
A tragedy for the boy's family and friends...
DeleteBut I'm glad you had such a pleasant holiday. It's some to remember through the winter days, as another friend has just said to me about her recent week away.
You don't have to travel far in our beautiful country to find a perfect resting spot.
ReplyDeleteAlways need to be near the sea for me to feel I am on holiday. What a tragedy for the boy’s family. Glad you had a change of scenery and enjoyed some meals out. Catriona
ReplyDeleteGood to have a break and one not too far away. Ideal. Very sad about the boy from your school days. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as though it's done you the world of good.
ReplyDeleteOh how glorious, Sue! I'm so glad you got the chance to get away. Not too far....just enough. Love, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a very good break. We drive to the coast at least once a week just to get the lovely fresh air, it makes you feel so much clearer headed doesn't it.
ReplyDeleteThe sound of the sea always soothes me, as does a change of scenery.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely getaway. The sea is soothing.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for comments, it was a good break. Good to be home now the weather is cooler
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your getaway, Sue.
ReplyDeleteA holiday by the sea is wonderful. Something about the waves and rolling in and out? Plus, the sea air is fantastic, and water views are always changing with the tides. It sounds like your days by the sea!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I know I was one encouraging it. Glad you went and look forward to your posts.
ReplyDeleteI live close to the sea but it is the Pacific. My family scoffs but it smells completely different to the North Sea. The first thing I do when I get home is take some deep breaths and get the good air into my lungs.
ReplyDeleteOh that looks wonderful…would you share a link?
ReplyDeleteA well earned holiday for you, Sue, so glad you enjoyed it. Night time traffic can be disturbing can't it. We are in a cul-de-sac and cars turning around outside often wake me up in the early hours.
ReplyDeleteAngie
You went before all this wet weather we have now, too. Awful for the next week now.
ReplyDeleteGood for you. Looking forward to seeing your posts in due course. Good to eat out and have some special meals that you didn't have to wash up after!!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to be in the sun and dining out! It looks like a great holiday.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful holiday! And holidays close to home are always enjoyable, as if you have forgotten something it isn't the end of the world!
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that you managed a bit of a holiday. Good for you.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
That's lovely to hear. I hope you enjoyed a relaxing stay. Xx
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky you live so near the coast, and not only have the the confidence to drive that far, but also to go on holiday alone. My holidays are now gone since my husband was killed a few years ago.
