These are the books that I bought myself (as a gift from BiL- he gave me some money). I can't remember where I saw them mentioned but I liked the look of both .
I came across details of this soft cover, large size book below when finding out about the Radio Times nostalgia for a blog post earlier this month. I looked on abebooks and amazon where it was a selling for crazy prices - over £20- but on the Radio Times Shop direct it was £9.99 - so that found it's way to me before Christmas. It's absolutely fascinating and a lovely addition to my WWII Home Front book collection.
And then I had even more books from my wish list from the children!
Might be needing a bit of a shelf sort out to make room for everything.............
After 11 of us all together on Christmas Day, Yesterday- Boxing Day was quieter, just me and BiL. In the evening I 'forced' him to watch the special festive quizzes/panel games which started with 'Would I lie to You', then 'Richard Osman's House of Games' and 'Celebrity Mastermind' . By the time it got to 8.30 he said he couldn't cope with anymore quizzes! which made me laugh, so he went home to avoid 'Only Connect' and 'Christmas University Challenge'!

Your books look interesting, I received a book voucher - must take a look!
ReplyDeleteI've got so much reading to do in January!
DeleteThe Slow Down book looks interesting
ReplyDeleteI hope so, haven't had a good look yet
DeleteOh! What a find! The RT one will go on my birthday list.
ReplyDeleteI bought myself The Almanac which is about trees this year.
I had one of the early Almanacs and then another but they seemed a bit samey so haven't looked since
DeleteGreat choice of books as gifts and look forward to seeing some reviews later. I watched Would I lie to You as well and I really enjoyed it. My favourite is Have I got news for you with all its different hosts. Catriona
ReplyDeleteLee Mack is just so quick and witty - made me laugh a lot
DeleteI'm so glad you had a lovely time. That's funny about BIL and the quizzes.
ReplyDeleteI have the commonplace book. I haven't really read it yet, but I've become quite interested in the thought of a commonplace book. I was thinking about making it my photography project for next year.
I love the idea of a commonplace book bt it would probably end up like all my 'good ideas' - half finished!
DeleteThat's funny about the quiz marathon! Enjoy your new books.
ReplyDeleteHopefully lots of good reading
DeleteA great choice of books. I had crafting ones and a great one on churches.
ReplyDeleteSounds as if we both had good books for Christmas
DeleteWhat a lovely Christmas treat for yourself. Those books sound fascinating, especially the WWII one. Your Boxing Day sounds cozy and fun too , poor BiL and all those quizzes
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend
Buying my own presents is always a good plan!
DeleteUnfortunately my evening care call is timed to coincide with Only Connect. Fortunately we live in the age of iPlayer and catchup tv!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the new books.
Yes, I'm catching up with things missed too
DeleteGlad you enjoyed your holidays, Sue!
ReplyDeleteA quiet few days after tomorrow until New Years Day then hoping for a January full of reading
DeleteThe books are perfect and good finds at the right price. Prices vary greatly and you are wise to look around.
ReplyDeleteYour BIL was good company. Just not all that interested in the quiz time! So funny.
He'd really had enough of quizzes - but he watches rubbish you tube things on his phone that I'd never watch!
DeleteI've got the Country Commonplace Book, but it's been on the shelf since the day it arrived. I need to start a reading list for next year, when I can summon the energy.
ReplyDeleteWe both got flu for Christmas this year, so it's not been the best Christmas ever, but we somehow managed a bit of a Christmas dinner between us, and of course none of the chocolate or alcohol has been consumed, so it should be a good New Year. :-)
Oh No! - lots of nasty things going around - hope you are soon well again.
DeleteI like quizzes too so would have been right at home with you! We watched 'would I lie to you' but there were two episodes of 'Call the Midwife' to watch this year so they took priority ;) The 1% club is a family favourite. We all challenge each other and our daughter brought the board game with her yesterday. It just wasn't the same though.
ReplyDeleteAngie
I loved Call the Midwife originally and read the books but now it would just make me cry - and I try to avoid that!
