A Bridleway

Having a cycle again means I can go a bit further than I can walking and recently I biked to the entrance of a Bridleway that I'd never been down before.

If I'd got a suitable off-road tyres and was 40 years younger I could have cycled down it as Bridleways are OK for horse riders, cyclists and walkers of course. But it was too bumpy and strewn with small branches from the hedges so I pushed the bike. I didn't go all the way down the track as after a mile it turns into a small road with houses that are accessed off the main A road - and there's no way I'm cycling on an A road with so much fast traffic!

We are so lucky to have so many footpaths and bridleways in the countryside of Suffolk and on the whole they are kept clear.

Haven't been far on my new bike in the last week - the on/off rain is hopeless for getting washing dry, cutting grass and getting out and about on foot or by bike. More thunder storms - with and without rain -than we've had for years. I haven't even been to a boot sale for nearly two weeks - I shall be getting withdrawal symptoms  at this rate!

  1. We have had some incredible thunderstorms too. Our neighbours house was hit by lightning, fortunately no injury or major damage.

  2. It rained heavily here, on and off yesterday, and Tam and Jon said it was torrential on the way to Hereford, hailstones thrown in for good measure too.

Footpaths and bridleways - we have footpaths, but we also have hills in every direction. When we arrived, I thought to explore a lot more than I have, which is a shame.

    1. A nasty day here today cold and pouring rain.
I wouldn't be able to do much cycling in Wales - for sure!

  3. You've found freedom with your bicycle! Bicycles were so important historically for providing freedom of movement and travel to people, especially women. That's a lovely little bridleway

    1. I've always loved cycling - it took me away from home to meet with friends when I was young and relied on cycling for many years later too

  4. We are on holiday in Suffolk at the moment & enjoying some of your lovely bridleways . Yesterday’s from Lavenham to Brent Eleigh looked just like that . Managed to get back before the rain too .

  6. That’s a great photo - the road less travelled ( not the A road bit of course 😉)

    1. Without the A road this would be a good round cycle route but it's much too busy on the A140

  7. You're doing well getting out and about on your bike, when the weather allows. The last time I was on a bike was when we holidayed on Sark, the roads there were just like that bridleway, only slightly wider.

  8. Please send the rain to me. It is very dry and even dusty. I mowed yesterday just to trim up the grassy areas.
Being able to ride your bike without traffic buzzing by is truly ideal.
The bridlepath looks lovely for biking and walking.

  9. Good job getting out on your bike. I gave my old bike (1960 Schwinn) away recently because I'm too afraid of falling. Lately I'm bothered by the electric bikes that zoom down trails and paths. I think they are dangerous to the hikers out there.

  10. I love to cycle, but it has become too dangerous around here when the drivers are speeding and being distracted by their phones. ~ skye
