St Peter, Bruisyard

This church was difficult to find as it's tucked away along small lanes and the village, with a population of just 150 people, doesn't have a centre just groups of houses and farms dotted about.

The lovely lych-gate was built to celebrate George V

This is one of Suffolk's round tower churches and the tower is Norman

Just a small simple church, updated in Victorian times as usual.

A rood loft beam still in situ, although probably not original. With icons of St Clare and St Francis

The East window stained glass is 20th Century

The pulpit with sounding board

Lots of carving on the font which dates from C15 and shows some damage.

There is plenty to read on the reredos behind the altar

Lots of colourful stitched kneelers.

Something unusual is this South Transept built in the 17th century as a chapel for the Hare family.......

..................but now used as a vestry.

I liked this chart in the porch of all the wildflowers found in the churchyard in 2024 following a survey by Suffolk Wildlife Trust.
