More Dishwasher Salt and a Jigsaw Puzzle

Last summer when I didn't know I was going to get back to jigsaw puzzling through the winter, every other car boot seller seemed to have jigsaws for sale. Of course sods law this summer I've been looking and only found 1 so far, until last week when I found this one called 'Penny Buns' it's another House of Puzzles nostalgic jigsaw and looked quite a good one to do.

Then I picked up 2 more bags of dishwasher salt from one of the house clearance people for £1 each. I've still got the full bag that I got from a March car boot sale and had to find somewhere else to put these two new bags. It would have been silly not to buy them, they'll be used and I may not find more this year - who knows. With 7kg in the cupboards I won't need to but any at full price for ages.

I've just had a quick count up and this is about the 13th 'Car Boot Bargains' post this year - already! and it's only May with 5 months still to go. The fine weather is to blame - hardly any rained off.

I know someone commented that they like to see what 'treasures' I find but I'm sure many other people just think "OMG all this woman does is spend money at boot sales!" Which is true, but saves me spending anywhere else and 'Car Boot Bargain ' posts are very handy for filling up the week of posts!

  1. Here it's "garage sales" I go to, and when I get all my loot home I've half-forgotten what I bought and it feels like Christmas when I unpack and look at it. I love a good bargain and the treasures you find are of interest to me ... love seeing them.

    1. I've got 1 village garages sale in my diary in June - in Son's village, but car boot sales are every weekend!

  2. I always enjoy seeing your boot sale bargains. It's been years since I went to one myself, but I used to find some great toys for Lily when she was small. I still have the cute, wooden ride-on cow, that I bought for £8. New ones sell for £60!

  4. We actually went to a car boot sale last weekend, the only things I bought were a cup of coffee and 8 nut bars. It was simply too massive for me to be able to walk around and the few lanes of stalls that I did manage were just selling real tat that had obviously been on sale over and over again as everything was so dusty.

    1. Probably not good for a painful back.
The big boot sale is on a slope not far from where gravel and sand was dug out years ago so very light soil which means it doesn't get muddy - but just very dusty and people put things on the ground - they really get dirty.

  5. You are lucky that you have so many nearby. They're like hen's teeth in these parts. The one I sold at recently was nearly 40 miles away!

  6. We have a big weekly one here which has grown and grown. Happily these kinds of sales are out of bounds for me (social distancing). I say happily, because I know I'd get completely carried away! You do seem to get some terrific bargains there.

  14. Oh, I thought dishwasher salt was another name for dishwasher powder but I see you have explained it above. I never realized you need that for your hard water.
I like hearing about your bargains, Sue!

    1. Hard water leaves limescale everywhere - I use a water filter for drinking water and my coffee maker, dishwasher salt for the dishwasher, washing soda helps for the washing machine.

    1. Really hard water here in Suffolk. Doesn't take long to clog up a kettle and when we used to have hot water tank with immersion heater and they went wrong the element would be completely clogged with limescale

  21. My walking friend likes to do jigsaws, but I'm always worried about picking them up secondhand in case the pieces aren't all there! Just after Covid there seemed to be loads around. I think people had started doing them when they had extra time and then got rid of them!

  22. Same here! I save so much buying at garage and estate sales. I can't imagine not looking for staples through alternative sources. We save where we can, and it often means you just have to always go out looking.
