One of my favourite car-boot purchases must be The Plant Stand. Bought in June 2021 for £20 it looked like this. I painted it dark grey in the July and gathered some small plants and terracotta pots.
After it blew over sometime in the winter of 2021, breaking some pots, I tethered it to the trellis .
In the summer of 2022 it looked like this
In April 2024 it was still OK
but for the last year things had been watered but otherwise ignored, so now it was looking very sad.
The trailing ivy that was on the top shelf had died over winter, so that went first and everything else needed rescuing.
Wire brush and sandpaper got off most of the old flaking paint and I'd got plenty of the slate grey Cuprinol paint left.
At a recent boot sale I bought a small trailing thyme and popped it into a clay pot and refreshed the compost in a couple of the succulents.
And attached the stand back to the trellis, so now it's looking good again.
I might separate some of the red house leek type succulent on the middle shelf sometime, I'll see how it recovers or not.

DeleteWood easily gives in to the weather but you have renovated it brilliantly. They are talking of drought now after all that sunny weather we have had.

DeleteIs there are way to waterproof that paint so you don't have to repaint it every few years?
