Rushing Through The Month As Usual

Autumn colours.

We don't get the huge range of oranges and reds that can be seen in the US, usually just yellows and browns as the leaves change but here and there the odd tree stands out. This one below I think I've photographed before as it's at the edge of the Asda car park in Stowmarket.

Outside under the kitchen window is this patch of Michaelmas Daisies that has gradually spread from nothing over my years here. There is another plant with much darker flowers by the path too.

The weather this week has been dull and cloudy, drizzly and murky in Mid-Suffolk, no rain to speak of but no dry out for the washing or for getting the grass cut - it's still not stopped growing.

I've finished the October jigsaw puzzle, all pieces present and correct, thank goodness, after thinking there was a piece missing right to the end.
It's definitely Colin in his blue overalls in the workshop!- we even had a grey Ferguson tractor and a Collie dog although we didn't have the lovely stone building and all the other bits of machinery.

And now we are past halfway through another month, it's another weekend and racing to November.

Have a good one, I'll be back Monday.

  1. The verges of a bypass close to us have massed planting of spindle (Euonymus europaeus) - whether it was deliberate or birds I don't know, but this autumn they are putting on a spectacular red display.

    1. One of my favourite trees - it used to grow wild along the Shaftesbury ("Shaston") Drove, when I lived just outside of Salisbury. That mix of bright pink and orange seeds is stunning.

    2. I only know of one spindle tree locally, they were planted in many hedges where I lived at the smallholding

  2. That's a lovely jigsaw. We have a group of sycamores nearby which always go a proper autumn red.

    1. Unusual for sycamores to go red - must be a lovely sight

  3. I have those same lilac daisies...they have been flowering all year but set to take over my garden!

    1. A nice splash of colour for late autumn - I like how they are spreading even though they are growing in shingle under the kitchen window.

  4. Galloping through the year - I suppose it's better than feeling that time's dragging!

    1. Time never drags now for me, not like how it did in science lessons at school - they went on forever!

    1. The jigsaw was a good one to do - lots of interest and only the roof was a slow finish

  6. The tree is lovely as is the finished jigsaw.
Michaelmas daisies are a welcome sight on these dull days.

    1. Out and about this morning there were a few more colourful trees but many still green

  7. Oh the daisies look beautiful don't they and that jigsaw is a lovely picture. It's Alan's dream to own and renovate an old grey Fergie, I thought that itch had been well and truly scratched with his John Deere renovation, but it seems not!!

    1. The grey Fergie we had came with the smallholding - it wasn't much good, would only pull a one furrow plough!

  8. They have some really beautiful trees in our nearest Asda car park. They're putting on quite a display just now. Xx

    1. I'm sure I've photographed the Asda tree before as it really shows up among all the other trees there

  9. Your daisies are lovely and make a very nice bed of Autumn blooms.
The color among the Maple trees on my property are rather dull this year. We continue to be in drought conditions and that has caused less color.
My tall Autumn daisies did poorly. They usually stand tall and bloom, swaying in the wind until frost. They were half the height and only a few blooms.
Your puzzle shows a great farming scene. I always wanted a Ferguson. Any color would be ok.

  10. Good job on the jigsaw puzzle! That roof would be tricky with so many of the same color.

    1. The roof pieces were easy to sort out from the others but the hardest bit to do .

  11. How lovely that the puzzle reminded you of Col. Good memories!
The trees here are starting to change. There is a lovely array of oranges, reds and browns. This really is my favourite time of year but it seems to go so quickly! One day it seems there is no colour, the next it has burst and the next all the leaves are gone!
Hope you have a good weekend.

  12. What a lovely puzzle. Great memories from the doing of it. We mostly have yellow and brown leaves here on the prairies of Canada, though the neighbours plum tree has turned a lovely shade of rust.

    God bless.
