My new header is Spring on the bookshelf, I don't have many things for Spring compared to Autumn and Winter and everything has been out of the cupboard before except for the small Brambly Hedge plate which I found from a car boot sale in June last year. What the shelf really needs are flowers. My daffodils still aren't out - weeks behind everywhere else.

Weather permitting car boots should have started yesterday at the Sunday one furthest from home - 14 miles. I only go to that one about twice a year and as the weather was rather grey and cold yesterday and probably not many selling I didn't bother to go (and a good thing I didn't as later in the day a facebook message said they'd cancelled.)
The usually much bigger Saturday boot sale at Needham Market gets going next Saturday, they are on dryer sandy heath land on a slope and rarely get rained off, they'll have Wednesdays boot-sales as well from mid month.
This year I'm looking for.............
- A pickle draining spoon!
- Interesting books
- Christmas wrapping paper
- Useful things from the house clearance people like parchment paper, foil, half started packets of washing soda etc
- Things that will make Christmas Presents
Looking forward to seeing your treasure halls!
ReplyDeleteHopefully there will be a few finds
DeleteWet here most of the weekend but at least the days are getting lighter. Looking forward to your car boot finds soon. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping the lady who has a few bunches of cheap flowers will be there next weekend
DeleteOh how I miss car boot sales. The Carms ones used to have such interesting things (e.g. Stock, back in the day!!) We would go to a couple the same day on occasion. I may go to the one at Madely a few times this year to look for things for Rosie. There's one at Abergavenny I may check out too. NOT local by any means, but it's a run out and a change from my four walls. The house clearance bods here seem to chuck the kitchen bits (or don't have them in the first place) or I would stock up too.
ReplyDeleteIt's handy living where I do, some parts of the county would be much further from a boot-sale
DeleteI haven’t been to a car boot sale for years but there seems to be a bit more going on here than where we lived before so I’ll look out for them.
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
It's my excuse/ reason to get out at the weekend!
DeleteI like your new header photo, perhaps you could temporarily pot up a little Primula for the top of the bookshelf, most of mine are in flower now.
ReplyDeleteYou usually do pretty well for your random household things and gifts at the car boot sales don't you. A pickle draining fork is a very specific thing though, I had a quick Google to see what they look like, very interesting. :-)
I wish I had primula, everything I've planted in the last four years has vanished!
DeleteI am also looking forward to seeing your buys from car boot sales. I am going to try to get to some myself this year, I think your idea of a list rather than random browsing is a good one. I keep a list in my little notebook of things needed and refer to it quickly before I go into a charity shop.
ReplyDeletePenny
My list doesn't usually get from the blog to a piece of paper, but it's much the same each year anyway.
DeleteMaybe you will find a sweet flowering plant in a little pot at the Boot sales to add to your Spring display. Your display looks very nice!
ReplyDeleteI saw some lovely Primulas when I was out earlier then forgot to go back after the optician visit!
DeleteTime to sharpen your elbows Sue! Just in case the bargain of a century turns up that everyone wants :)
ReplyDeleteUnlikely!
DeleteYou seem to nearly always find a few very useful items at the car boot sales. I would find them fun too. If only they existed in the US.
ReplyDeleteOur Trader Joe's grocery store (AKA, Aldi's in the UK) had potted primroses last week and two weeks ago they had hellebores. Both of these are lovely when it is still cold and snowy outside. Come spring I'll plant them outside in the garden.
Aldi here only have plants now and again
DeleteI'm sure you will be very successful, as usual.
ReplyDeleteHope so
DeleteI love how closely you monitor your local or regional sales. I have no idea if we have regular boot sales around us, but I love it when I stumble onto one!
ReplyDeleteI worry about the owls at the rescue center! What will happen to them if it closes?
They seem to think that the businesses on the site are all safe - no idea how it works with bankruptcy.
DeleteI love the Spring header!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to have a list of what to look for.
I do hope the owl sanctuary survives.
I didn't find much last year - too much tat!
Deleteim really hoping the latest Trump shenanigans dont blight this years car boots , ours dont start till the end of the month and ive a dining room full of crap to get rid of
