Something To Stitch

I wanted to get back to a hobby that I'd not done for a long time and have been looking on ebay for a tapestry to stitch.

Eventually this came up. It said " Has been opened but not started" and looked as if it had all the wool still included. It's just the sort of picture that I might have bought to stitch years ago but are now a bit out of fashion.

It's finished size is 12 inches by 18 inches which seemed a size that I would be able to find a picture frame for.

My small stitching frame has those twisty clips to fix but the big frame is very old and the tapestry has to be attached by stitching it to a canvas strip at the top and bottom, which isn't the easiest thing to do. Eventually got it onto the frame.

Now I need to sort the wools.

But in the meantime I'd started on the small X stitch Christmas tree decorations and had all those 15 library books to read, so the wool tapestry has been put on hold for now.

This tapestry to stitch is one would have been apt for this year, with the Bayeux Tapestry (which isn't a tapestry and probably not stitched in Bayeux) being here in this country for a while.........but not at £86!

  1. If you find the kit is missing any wools, drop me an email, I have a huge srash if tapestry wool. The Bayeux one looks lovely, but I would not spend £86 on it!

    1. I think the wools are all there, still wrapped in their numbered bundles. I spent under £20 on mine, £86 is rather a lot.

  2. That looks like a lovely tapestry to while away the dark days of winter (January springs to mind!) I have been checking out Etsy for embroidery kits for my Christmas list but was frustrated I could only seem to find Etsy NZ. Just done an ask on Google and had to change my account details from NZ $ to pounds £. Don't know how that was altered in the first place.

Someone is definitely cashing in on the Bayeaux tapestry right now!

    1. I've got so many good books to read at the mo, but will get to the tapestry eventually.
I think the tapestry that was £86 was on Etsy - some things are very expensive there

  3. There are some amazing tapestry kits available....for a price!. I suppose that reflects the hours on designing and preparing the kits. I read of someone buying old tapestry pictures and sewing them together as a quilt.

    1. Clever idea for the old tapestries - always seems sad to see finished ones in the house clearance boxes at boot-sales

  4. Happy stitching Sue! And the problem I’m having must be
something to do with our router as again waiting to start work I can log in and do happy dances…just not at home. Time for a reset me thinks!! Jackie

    1. Everything seems to be working on blogger now, reading lists updating, comments publishing so maybe it is a poor connection at your end. Hope you get it sorted soon.

  5. That looks like a nice tapestry to work on. What with stitching and reading I hope you have a good lamp for the darker Winter nights. I insisted on a nice new, tall lamp to stand behind my bedroom chair for our bungalow, that way I can read in peace while Alan watches rugby or motor racing in the living room.

  6. Oh, I really like that tapestry; my style too. I haven't done needle work in many years either but I still have my frames too and materials. Hmmm, I might need to start again for fun. Dawn P. Albany, GA USA

    1. Some modern tapestries are a bit odd - I like to know what I'm stitching rather than an abstract cartoon

  7. That's a good project for these days that are getting cooler and darker. I've been doing cross stitch which makes me feel useful while I'm watching TV in the evening.

    1. I've made up one little cross stitch Xmas tree decoration - not sure it's good enough to give away!

  8. I'm trying to continue with my efforts with counted cross stitch. I had to send one back to Etsy seller - too big, too tiny and I was afraid the printed pattern would discolor the threads when washed. I have another coming soon that's smaller and counted cross stitch so no pattern colors to worry me.

    1. My cross stitch efforts have to be very small projects now - no patience for large counted X stitch anymore

  9. As the weather cools and winter sets in, cross stitch makes a nice hobby. My mother liked cross stitch. She even made a Christmas tree for me, and it is decorated with tiny colorful knots in various sizes. I have no idea how she learned cross stitch because she rarely did more than adjust a hem or sew a button on.

  10. How could you turn down the opportunity to make the "Suffolk Tapestry"? :)

  11. Bought an open kit from a thrift store. Navajo picture. Finally got around to opening it. Looked at it and thought, nope.

Then I saw the date printed on the instruction sheet. 1980. That kit has been bought, donated, bought, donated.

It went back to a thrift store yesterday.

  12. I have not done tapestry stitching in a very long time. Perhaps that is something I should look into once all the cross stitch and embroidery is completed. Very nice tapestry, and like you I would not pay what they want for the other one.

    God bless.

  13. I like the stitching design. I'm going to try to do some embroidery rather than just cross stitch. I feel as though it might be a little easier on the eyes lol

  14. I like the tapestry picture, old fashioned suits me best I think. The arthritis in my hands means I am struggling with cross stitch and I miss it. Need to ponder on it a bit.
