A Strange Blog

I rarely use my phone for the internet because I have a lap top - much bigger and easier for  me - my thumbs can't do that high speed thing that kids do on their phones.
Anyway, a  week or so ago there was a comment on one of my posts about next doors house - someone thought it was my house and I said no, mine is the one in the middle of the header photo. Then I discovered that if you read blogs on a phone you don't get to see the header photo. So there I was fiddling about with google on my phone, starting off with my blog and finding weird other links.

Including this........... a blog called  'Blog on a Roll'  A Strange Blog with no information  about the person/people/computer/whatever running it. There are not many posts on it and the few there are date from last year but  one of them was a link to MY blog.....................

At The End Of a Suffolk Lane

So tonight I settle down to a good comfortable warm blog. http://attheendofasuffolklane.blogspot.co.uk/. Home living in Suffolk brought back memories of growing up in a village. Even the fireplace looks the same as ours. Growing fruit, car boots. its a bit like catching up with a neighbour. On top of that some frugal living tips, great stuff!

The really odd thing was the nice photo below the blog post - Definitely NOT the cottage at the end of a lane

So to whoever writes this strange random"Blogonaroll" blog. Thank you for saying I have a comfortable warm blog. Quite like that description but why write a blog and then only write a few posts, why write a blog that no one knows where it is to read and if you are going to write a post about my blog why didn't you tell me a year ago and I would have linked in to your blog. Perhaps now I've given you - whoever you are- a mention on the blog you will come out of hiding and write a comment here!

The Week That Went From February Into March

 The sunny and warm weather at the beginning of the week, when it was still February, gave me an opportunity for an unplanned boot-sale visit because  I woke up early last Wednesday and the sun was shining - with no guarantee of weekend sunshine so I zoomed down the A140 (except for the fact that there is a speed limit of 50mph!)

Lots of people selling and buying and I found these............

The plastic food box and the roll of baking parchment cost me 20p, fished out of one of dozens of boxes of house clearance stuff. From the boxes I also found an oven glove with matching word-burner door/pan holder which were 50p and the pink flowery thing new from  Hobbycraft is a needlework kit with scissors for £1, it will be ideal for when I have to provide a prize for the WI draw.
 The two hanging  baskets were 50p each. I've got these so I can use the seeds of trailing tomatoes that came with the fruit bargain pack. 3 more toys for Willow were £1. There are a couple of sticker craft things to put away for when the grandchildren are older, they were £1 each as was the Red and Black brand new accounts book (£7.99 label on the back). Total spend £6.70.
Listening to the people who were selling the boxes of house clearance stuff really made me glad that I have started to clear things from the house already. She was telling someone there were 7 full transit vans cleared from the house and that didn't include any furniture and white goods!

 The boot sale plus swimming, charity shop and visiting youngest daughter and Florence meant that I was in and out and driving about all week so I was glad to stay at home on Friday when my sister and BIL visited for a coffee.

It looks as if we are in for a rough wet and windy weekend - March coming in like a lion? The vegetable beds are actually really dry so we need any rain we get.



This week I am grateful for

• Son, Daughter in Law and Willow visiting and bringing lunch to cook here too 
• A very quiet swimming pool to do lots of lengths 
•  Dry weather to finish clearing the veg beds
• A gift of onion sets from my sister, enough for a row across the bed - very handy.

 Wonder if the lovely weather here in the UK at the end of February might have lulled us into a false sense of security...........because I found this in Chambers Book of Days......

  In the Roman calendar March,or Martius, was the first month of a new year. The month was named after Mars, the god of war and the guardian of agriculture. March was the month when both farming and warfare could begin again after winter.

The Saxons called it Lentmonat, or lengthening month, because of the equinox and lengthening of days and this is the origin of the word Lent.

There are many weather sayings,  the best known is

March winds and April showers

Bring forth May flowers.

Also.....................March month of many weathers

Dry days are precious to get seeds sown.................A peck of dust in March is worth a king's ransom

And on the same theme.................A dry March never begs it's bread

William Wordsworth also wrote about weather in March in his poem " To my sister"

It is the first mild day of March:

Each minute sweeter than before,

The redbreast sings from the tall larch

That stands beside our door.

There is a blessing in the air,

Which seems a sense of joy to yield

To the bare trees, and mountains bare,

And grass in the green field.

There's no getting away from the fact that through history we've always liked talking about the weather.
