First Charity Book Sale of 2023

The info on line said opening at 9am and I got halfway there and the signs said "Road Closed" - Grrrr! The signed 'Alternative Route' was back the way I'd come but thank goodness I knew the small back roads  heading roughly in the right direction and arrived only a few minutes late and found just a couple of dealers there - luckily they were only buying lots of hardback fiction.

There were a few interesting looking non-fiction country books and I nabbed these 3 very quickly .

Got home and checked my book of books read and hadn't read any but I had a feeling that 'A Book of Silence' might have been borrowed from the library before, and after a bit of searching on here found that it had been borrowed in 2018 and gone back unread because I'd found it "a bit long-winded and dry!" Oh well, it can be tried again now I've got a copy.
Then I discovered that 'Diary of a Pint-sized Farmer' had been published before under a different title 'A Farmers Diary' which I'd not borrowed as it didn't sound very interesting.
Thankfully, although  Phyllida Barstow had an earlier book called My Animals and Other Family which I'd read way back in 2009, the library didn't have a copy of this more recent book so I couldn't have borrowed it already.

1 out of 3 then!

Back Tomorrow

  1. Give the Pint-sized Farmer one a go Sue, it’s quite funny. I also got caught out with the titles, ordering it twice from the library and being very disappointed when realising it was the same book!

  2. It might be worth giving them another go - you never know, you might enjoy them more this time. xx

  5. 1 out of 3 - not too bad is it? I'm finding in the library that I often bring home books I've borrowed before - the dreaded senior moment?!

    1. I don't have that problem with ordering books to come to the mobile as the website tells me if I've borrowed it before - very clever

  6. I follow pint sized farmer on Twitter, very funny. I can't get her book here though. So you didn't go to all three events after all?

    1. Just the book sale and the saturday coffee morning/cafe for breakfast after a detour on the way home

  7. My memory is sliding downhill - I'm almost at the stage where I only need 1 or 2 books and just read them alternately!
Any idea what I can do with the 4 bookcases-full of hardcover and paperback books I no longer want? I wish I had willing book-buyers around here. Not even buyers - just someone who wants a large quantity of books.
My very basic phone isn't clever enough to deal with entering and sending book identification numbers to would-be buyers. . . . sigh . . .

    1. Ziffit don't offer much nowadays - they are online using ISBN numbers. I just tend to pass on to charity shops now

  8. You only bought three, wow that was very careful of you. I've been caught in the past with books being re-issued under a different title and with a completely different cover.

    1. It was only a small book sale - there were lots of cookery books that I didn't even look at

  9. You certainly do a thorough job of keeping track of what you have read! I can never remember and sometimes find myself reading a book that seems awfully familiar - but I usually can't remember the ending so can enjoy it again! :)

  10. Detours can be harrowing. Lucky you knew the roads and managed well to arrive nearly on time for the sale and before many dealers. Finding a couple books is always satisfying.

    1. We have road works going on on many country roads at the moment - very frustrating

  11. At least you keep track of books. I keep my list on Goodreads and when I start reading something familiar I can look it up easily. Before that I couldn't work out whether it was familiar or just similar to something else I'd read.

1 out of 3. Oh well. Hopefully you enjoyed a look around the sale.

    1. The sale wasn't as big as I'd hoped but I just love looking.

  12. I always seem to find a book that looks interesting and then once into it....I find I have already read it. I really need to keep better track.

    God bless.

  13. There are some books it is more relaxing to read when you know you don't have to rush it back to the library! I borrow from two systems and one charges for overdue books and one does not - important not to forget which books came from which library, especially the new ones which are due sooner.

    1. It always feels different owning a book to borrowing. I hope to get round to all three eventually
