Eight out of Fifteen - that's how many people I'd heard of from this year's Strictly Come Dancing line up.
Although it never seems to matter as I watch whoever's dancing to cheer up gloomy Saturday evenings alone before Christmas.
Angela Rippon is 79 - good grief.
Back Tomorrow
Sue
I'd heard of 8 of them too! I kinda recognised 2 others but couldn't have told you their names!! I can't wait to see how Angela Rippon gets on :-)
ReplyDeleteI think the others that I didn't know are in soaps - I don't watch any - not sure how long a 79 year old will last, even if she is super fit
DeleteWell I've only heard of 3, so you're well ahead of me! As for Angela Rippon - well, I take my hat off to her - I'm a few years younger and definitely wouldn't have the energy levels to partake in this.
ReplyDeleteI'm 10 years younger and wouldn't have the energy for just one week!
DeleteIt's the same every year, we are getting older, the new generation are coming through this iconic show.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I hadn't thought that not knowing people was an age thing!
DeleteOh, yes, Sue, it's definitely an age thing. I'm in the US and don't get that show, but my daughter subscribes to People magazine. It only takes me a few minutes to read the whole thing because I don't bother reading about the people I've never heard of! I have heard of most of the younger celebrities that are actually making it in Hollywood, but I've never even heard of the wannabes. I don't read about the Kardashians, either.
DeleteI knew 4, and vaguely recognised 2 more. But as I don't watch "soaps" that's not surprising. I struggle to place many contestants on Celebrity Pointless too...
ReplyDeleteI don't watch any soaps either but do watch too much other TV
DeleteGood to see the juvenile starlings in your header. They are in decline, sadly.
ReplyDeleteA few weeks ago they ate a suet block in one day so I waited a few weeks and tried again - still lots of youngsters swooped in and ate it all in a day. I need more suet blocks now but can't cope with 1 a day!
DeleteMy count is 4 out of 15
ReplyDeleteVery Poor!!
DeleteLOL - I thought the winner was the one who knew the fewest
DeleteWell, you are much more "with it" than me - I have only heard of five of them! But as I do not watch any soap stuff on TV and am much older than half their audience I'm not really surprised. I will watch alone with you if that's OK?
ReplyDeleteReally looking forward to seeing Angela Rippon, have always admired her (and will there be a reprieve of the famous Morecambe & Wise routine?)
I don't watch soaps either but knew many from various other things. I bet they will work in the Morecombe and Wise thing somewhere
DeleteI’ve heard of 7 of them, one of them being Bobby Brazier, son of Jeff Brazier and the late Jade Goody. I just happened to see him being interviewed, recently and was quite taken with his cheery disposition. It should be fun…my other half hates it! 😂
ReplyDeleteHe's one I didn't know.
DeleteWe only started watching when there was a cricketer on one year before that Col would have probably moaned but he got used to watching too
We don't watch any Strictly programmes and the ones that we do watch with celebrity we check first as to who is on and if we've heard of them. If we don't know who they are we don't watch. So many Wannabes these days.
ReplyDeleteI just like the dancing and the professionals - doesn't worry me who's on
DeleteHaven't even seen who is on this year yet...I don't expect to know many of them...and at the rate I'm going at th moment I may well be watching through my eyelids! x
ReplyDeleteYou are sure to know 1 or 2 - it's the actors I don't know.
DeleteOf the ones I've heard about I only know four, but I don't watch it so I'm not that upset. ;-) My Mum will be happy that it's on though she absolutely loves it, whether she knows the 'celebrities' or not. The dancing and glitter and glam bring back so many happy memories for her.
ReplyDeleteWow, Angela Rippon 79!! I grew up with her and Anna Ford being the main female newsreaders.
I just like seeing the progression each week and it is a Happy programme!
DeleteI only know three and not sure if I’ll bother watching. Catriona
ReplyDeleteIt cheers up my Autumn Saturday nights
DeleteApparently, Angela Rippon can still do the splits! The mind boggles.
ReplyDeleteI expect they'll get her doing that too - hope she survives without a heart attack!
DeleteIt must take a lot of hard work at 79.
ReplyDeleteI would be exhausted after half an hour!
DeleteI like a good mix of celebs agewise but there doesn't seem to be that this year, lot of youngsters. Never mind, I will still watch, mainly on my own as Hubby not interested.
ReplyDeleteA few over 50 and a few more over 40 - it's pretty hard work for anyone I think
DeleteI haven't counted but, as a non-soap viewer, I don't recognise many at all. I expect we will know them very well by Christmas. xx
ReplyDeleteIt's always interesting to find out about people I have no idea about
DeleteAgree about boring Saturday nights. And hasn't Angela Ripon put on a bit of weight since she retired. Dancing should take care of that.
ReplyDeleteNot boring - I'm never bored, but it does cheer up Autumn evenings
DeleteI've just had a quick look, out of curiosity. I've only heard of eight of them as well, but I must admit I've never watched Strictly before. Xx
ReplyDeleteIt's a good glittery programme for Autumn
DeleteIn the US, we have a dance competition program called: Dancing With the Stars which sounds similar. It is ok. Some work very hard to dance but struggle greatly. Others were quite good and have great moves. I recognized many contestants. Weak dancers were painful to watch, especially when they tried so hard.
ReplyDeleteYes it's the same programme - now made in many different countries. Two judges from here used to fly back and forward to judge in the US too for a while.
DeleteOh dear, I can’t countenance autumn evenings in front of the telly when it’s not yet mid-August, even though I made courgette soup for lunch. I never know one celebrity from another but for me the show is made watchable by the professionals and production team. Frankly some of the pros could dance with a bin bag and still make it look good. Btw I picked the fruit and made damson jam yesterday. I put the damsons covered in water in a low 140 degree oven for half an hour as the oven was on for baking a tray of seedy flapjacks. Once cool, the stones popped out easily and I was ready to dissolve the sugar (ratio 2:1 of fruit to sugar), add the juice of half a lemon, heat up high and a delicious jam was ready in 10 minutes. Very easy and damson jam is my favourite and the free fruit was just perfect. I fear we will have to get used to eating more homegrown stone fruit when you read about the problems Spanish stone fruit farmers are now facing due to climate change. I fondly remember childhood puddings of stewed damsons and proper egg custard made with creamy Jersey milk. Sarah in Sussex
ReplyDeleteSarah in Sussex - you write so beautifully and always have another take on things. It would be wonderful if you started your own blog. Have you ever thought about it?
DeleteI stopped watching our version of it -- "Dancing with the Stars" -- after awhile. I loved the dancing, the music. But I knew -- No One! We decided it should be "Dancing with the People Who Either Used to Be or Want to Be Stars."
ReplyDeleteMum used to love that show. Always watched. Angela Rippon, wow. I actually have a feeling she might be good. I saw her on an episode of Would I Lie to You and her lie was something about high kicks. She could actually do one so I'm pretty sure she's quite flexible and in shape lol.
