Gloomy First Week of November

Grey, grey, grey and even greyer - that's what the sky has been every day this week in Mid Suffolk. It's not very inspiring. According to the Met Office website we might get a little sun on Monday and Wednesday if we're lucky................at least it's not cold - about the only good thing to say.
I even had to use the tumble dryer for 30 minutes one day as there wasn't any drying weather all week.

I got my scrapbooks and bits that I've been cutting out from various places, onto the table. The dull weather meant having the lights on a lot to see but I spent a while adding more themed pages.
Making scrapbooks all started in 2021 when I found these below at a boot sale and wanted to save some of the cuttings and postcards rather than them being chucked into landfill. I couldn't save everything as some were water damaged and foxed but kept the best bits including the postcards of Eric Ravilious - on the black pages.

Someone asked what I do with them. Well there are only two so far and not yet full up but I'll keep them and perhaps pass them onto grandchildren or maybe they will be useful to someone.
This isn't the scrapbooking that is done using bought bits and photos but recycling all sorts, including old tatty books, stamps, cuttings from various places, cards and I found a bundle of old nostalgia postcards in a charity shop a long while ago that have been good to use.

These are some of the pages I've done. (I've used a couple of art sketch books picked up at boot sales rather than buying special scrapbooks)

Chairs - with room for more

Working horses and donkeys

Through doors or windows - with a bit of space left for more

Apples and blossom

Hats

WWII

It keeps me out of mischief!

Thank goodness for the TV this week - I've not been far so it's been good company . There are new series of Antique Road Trip and QI and the second of a police drama called Ellis, and Shetland came back. I watched series 10 of The Brokenwood Mysteries on the U channel - it's the New Zealand version of Midsummer Murders!

No  LOW spend November to date..............

Brought Forward £ 242    Direct Debits (Council Tax, phones, broadband, charity)
£    8   Various donations re book fair etc

This weekend........................In my diary there is a Christmas Fayre or Sale somewhere every weekend from now to mid December. Sometimes even three on the same day, which will be difficult!
I didn't get to one last weekend but hope to this weekend and perhaps another church visit too and I really need to empty the compost bin that's been stood for a year.

Have a good weekend
I'll be back Monday
Sue

  1. Your scraps are simply beautiful! Great finds. What fun you are having, I can tell. Oh! it is gloomy and grey everywhere! We've had a sea fret for days now to add to the misery. On an upbeat note, the weather forecast is calling for it to lift next week. I sure hope so!

  2. There are a lot of shows being re-screened on the U channel. I'm also looking forward to the new Hilary Mantel on BBC soon. I enjoy the sunny antipodean crime dramas, especially in the autumn. Scandi noir stuff is all well and good, but all that snow on screen is not what I want when it's grey and gloomy outside!

    1. So very grey this month - hope the wind gets up and moves the clouds away soon

  3. The grey weather has being making me very unmotivated and I am going to get on with some housework type stuff this weekend. Next week is busy from Tuesday to Friday so I must get the house back into order. I love your scrap books. Ecause they are probably how scrapbooks are meant to be! Catriona

    1. The weather puts me off working outside and there is lots to do in the garden

  4. Your scrap books are so interesting. That's the way scrapbooks should be, traditional and filled with scraps that catch the imagination. I like the way you've themed them.

    1. It's fun to see all the different bits I can find for a subject

  5. Your scrapbooks would be a useful ‘tool’ in an aged care situation- not necessarily in a memory loss centre but just for general discussions and conversations on ‘how things were’

  6. Scrapbooking as it's meant to be, and a perfect activity during this grey, gloomy weather. I've been told we'd only had eighteen minutes of sunshine here, this week.
I hope you get to your Christmas Fayre. Xx

    1. I can well believe the few minutes of sunshine - it's over the whole country I think

  7. The scrapbooks are lovely and imho not everything has to have a 'point' to it. It's often the collecting and gentle activity of doing that matters most.

  8. I've made one scrap book in my life and that was of programs and such from when Dan was in the Baltimore Symphony. I think it's in a box in our attic space if I kept it when we downsized.

  9. That's the sort of scrapbooking that I really love, something I was going to do, but then changed my mind. I loved the new detective drama Ellis, a good length for each case, like with Vera, and not stretched out into a six part series for just one case.

    1. I'm now watching the quite old 'Law and Order UK' on ITV X - so many crime dramas around to keep me company

  10. I like your scrapbooks. I've bought those at estate sales and there's always something interesting. You're watching some good things. I need to start Brokenwood. And new Shetland? Hooray! I wonder when we'll get that one over here. I've loved all the other seasons.

    1. New Shetland was very good news. There are lots of series of Brokenwood - they are quirky - I wouldn't want to live there!

  11. Your scrapbooks are so interesting, Sue, and I can imagine an artist using them for inspiration. I have been doing an art journal each day since August 1st. I either write and/or doodle something that comes to mind. Sometimes, I have trouble thinking of something to draw and your scrapbooks would come in handy for that!

    1. It's interesting to find bits to fit into the subjects, I liked the idea of themes rather than random

  12. I actually like the idea of those scrapbooks quite a bit, Sue. I have tons of old photographs and calendar pictures dating back to the 1800s from this last old house, and I've been struggling with what to do with them. You have given me a great idea. Thank you!

  13. Good scrapbooking. I should do that soon as I have a lot of postcards that I bought where we visited. I send some to people. I do put some in my journal at times. I find times to watch TV when my daughter isn't in living room. She has an app on TV to watch the Trailblazers when they are playing. I watch it with her sometimes. Our local NBA basketball 🏀 team that we like. Cheaper than driving to the game and paying for parking. Enjoy your weekend.

  14. At least with LEDs it does not cost much to have the lights on all day, not like it used to.

  16. I like your scrapbooking. The pages carry a theme and I've never seen that technique before.
I've been watching Monty Dom on TV. His gardening knowledge and skill is outstanding. One segment talked about the bearded iris. I learned how to divide the tubers and replant to encourage flowering. My iris project took 3 days just digging them up and another 3 days to replant. I had some to give to my neighbor.

    1. Well done with your Irises - There are a couple here lurking behind the greenhouse - not my favourite things I'm afraid

  17. Love the scrapbooking. I like doing nature ones, finding bits in magazines and such. I wish I was good at drawing, but otherwise photography and scrapbooking has to be it lol.

I watched the first episode of Ellis and really enjoyed it. I can get it here on one of my channels. I can't wait to see the new Shetland ones. Hopefully it won't be long until they come on here.

  18. Brokenwood Mysteries is the only crime series I watch on TV! Your scrapbooks reminded me of a scrapbook I made for my mother once - she used it as an inspiration for her paintings (she was an amateur artist).
