Some weeks I only get to chat to people at the Keep Moving Exercise group - it doesn't bother me, I'm happy at home alone anyway. But last week I had a visit from my Essex friends on Thursday and BiL called in on Friday on his way back from an eye test to pick up some cheese scones I'd made for him as a thank you for cleaning the patio. He stayed for a cuppa. A 'busy' talking week!
The Christmas Fairs I visited on Saturday were not very exciting. The first one had a beautiful dolls house as a Big Raffle prize so I bought some tickets but no phone call came and the only other thing I got there was this old book for 50p.
What's left of The Middy is at the museum across the field from where I was at Clay Cottage. The railway ran out of money and closed in the 50's way before Dr Beeching shut down so many other branch railways in the 1960's. I don't think I've seen this book before and I can donate it to the Middy Railway Shop after I've looked at it.
The second Fayre, in Stowmarket town centre was smaller than usual and I found nothing and got cross with myself for going as there's a road closed in town that means a detour 'round the houses' to get to the Asda carpark.
I'd taken the cold-box to get a nice frozen dessert for Sunday visitors and being at Asda means having to buy £5 worth of shopping to get car-park charges back, so I got some of the Chinese/Indian party food bits while I was there. These go, a few at a time, with my veggie curries and veggie stir fries.
In the afternoon I dithered about going out again but went anyway in the hope of visiting a church in the same village.....
This third Christmas Fayre of the day was a very 'posh' craft fair held at a Huge nursing home. Some of the items for sale were lovely but very expensive, however I did find another jigsaw and bought it as it was £2.50 which is much less than charity shop prices. I've now got three to do, one each for December, January and February and that is ENOUGH!
Despite the village Church website telling me it was open on Saturdays, I found it locked but called in at another that was open on my way home.
Once home again I caught up with the final of Taskmaster and of course Strictly was on later. Then I turned over to see the second semi final of the Champion of Champions Snooker which I'd been following on and off all week.
Yesterday Son, DiL and the grandchildren came over bringing most of the makings of a roast dinner for us all which is always lovely.
That was another week gone and much more talking than usual - this week it will probably be back to just the Keep Moving Group!
Back Tomorrow
Sue
Maybe your blog should be 'my busy quiet life' because you certainly seem to fill your days!
ReplyDeleteIt was a very unusual week to have so many visitors, most days I'm home on my own and 3 Christmas Fayres on one day only happens at this time of year!
DeleteI, too, am perfectly happy on my own. Better that than half an hour of being in company you don'lt need. Lovely puzzle and why not treat yourself? It's a long, cold winter indoors that lies ahead.
ReplyDeleteHope the winter is not too cold although frost predicted here this week and snow 'up north'.
DeleteI couldn’t have resisted that jigsaw either! X
ReplyDeleteIt will be my January puzzle - hope it's complete!
DeleteEnjoying reading your blog again Sue. I dropped by the wayside some while ago, when I was cutting back on screen time, as well as lots of other things in life. Anyway, you’ll remember me if I say I’m Mary from Bath.
ReplyDeleteI went out yesterday for a family birthday lunch, then we found a Christmas craft fair in a local hall. I bought some nice bits and pieces - things that at one time I would have turned down on the basis that I could easily make them myself. Now, aged 83, energy levels aren’t so good, so am very glad to benefit from other people’s efforts!
Hello, lovely to hear from you - I found your previous comments - some in spam for no reason.
DeleteI'm still jogging along - now in a village rather than out in the wilds - but you never know - I might even move again!
Great find of the jigsaw and the book. I should have bee doing a craft fair yesterday but decided a few weeks ago that standing from 10am-4pm plus setting up and taking down is too long a day for me now. The stall was re-let from the siting list and I will make a donation to the t three charities I support anyway. Very cold here in mid Scotland today and already problems with the main rail line so lots of commuters having to find alternative ways to travel. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI feel so guilty not buying at Craft Fairs but I love looking.
DeleteSeems much too early for snow , it shouldn't get this far south and east. Stay warm up there!
The family getting together for a Sunday roast dinner sounds very nice.
ReplyDeleteYour days are interesting and varied. On the whole I enjoy a mooch round a Christmas fayre but rarely buy anything!
Alison in Wales x
The family bring much of the things for a roast, I supply the rest, Son does a lot of the cooking and I help . I do the clearing up, the children get to play with the toys here for a change and DiL has a rest. Perfect!
DeleteThere seem to be so many craft fairs at the moment, and I noticed one was actually charging admission. Im not alone, but my husband has some mobility issues. I am fortunate to have a fitness centre near by where I can get out and exercise and chat, and my local library often has some interesting events. I discovered recently that a church nearby has a weekly drop in chat and paint or do other craft event. I loved the puzzle illustration. Jean in Winnipeg.
ReplyDeleteThere are things I could join but I'm always happy at home.
DeleteLots to keep me occupied here
It sounds like you had a nice busy week. It's really into craft fair season now isn't it, I always feel really guilty for not buying anything except a cup of coffee, but even though it's nice to look I just don't want any stuff ... now if there's a book stall that can be a different matter!!
ReplyDeleteI always hope for book sales too!
DeleteIt's nice to have those busier days when you get to visit with people. But it is also nice to come home to your quiet, peaceful home and have some time to yourself, Sue. You have got a good balance going in your life.
ReplyDeleteToo bad the Christmas fairs weren't too interesting but at least you saved money!
Very unusual to have visitors 3 times in a week.
DeleteI'm still trying not to spend much this month.
I think they call it Murphy's Law - no visitors and then a whole lot all at once!
ReplyDeleteI expect this week to be very quiet - more normal
DeleteHow lovely that you had so many visitors this past week. I had hoped to see lots of interesting "purchases" from the fairs, but sometimes one can't find anything at all at a reasonable price.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Still only buying things needed and doing Low Spend November and the pretty things weren't that interesting really - or needed!
DeleteA very large family celebration at the weekend meant a lot of travelling, talking and listening so I was very glad of a virtually silent day yesterday, home alone.
ReplyDeleteIf it gets too quiet I chat to the house itself about this or that because I'm very fond of it and it listens to me without interruption.
The Christmas Fairs always have some interesting items. I also enjoy looking around. I notice, our churches seem to be doing less with holiday fairs. Selling wreaths and little else.
ReplyDeleteYour roast dinner with family sounds excellent plus everyone gets to enjoy your new decor. Lovely!
I miss things like Christmas and Summer Fayres. They don't have a lot of them here.
ReplyDeleteThe puzzle looks lovely. Hopefully that lovely snowy scene won't be something you'll see in real life this winter!
