Such a shame the weather changed so much for Bank Holiday events last Sunday and Monday, it became wet, windy and very chilly. I spent most of the time at home watching the finals of the World Championship snooker on TV, sorting blog posts and reading.
On Monday I just popped out to see what was happening at a May Fayre in a nearby village, but it was too cold to hang around to watch the Haughley Hoofers Clog dancing group do their thing outside the old Maypole pub - closed now - like so many other village pubs that survived for hundreds of years until recently.
They were gathering ready................
Just a few stalls - people were shivering and hanging onto their gazebos!
Called in a BiL's on the way home to see if he'd had any luck sorting my wheelbarrow with a new tyre. He had, but I can't fit it in my car to bring home, so will hope he can deliver it back to me sometime.
Had a much needed hair cut, it was getting thick and untidy - again. Price has gone up - again, like everything else, because they have to cover their rising business rates and electric etc etc.
Shopping to Aldi and Asda as usual and I found another frozen veggie bake thing to try - you'd think after all the not-so-good 'vegetarian taste tests' that I'd give up, but I'm always hopeful. I also got cook from frozen Aldi Lamb Shanks, someone mentioned these were good, and I like meat now and again. I can make each shank feed me for two meals which will cut the cost.
I headed out of town via the Co-op for desiccated coconut - not stocked in Aldi or Asda but I thought Co-op would have some and they did. I want to make coconut biscuits as a change from peanut, my basic biscuit recipe is getting used more often as it's much cheaper and better than buying biscuits. Co-op had loads of empty shelves - supply issues it said, probably connected with the huge problems some supermarkets have had with hackers getting into their systems.
The weather looks much better for the weekend but I'm not sure what's happening except for the other Mid Suffolk D C compost giveaway, which I reckon will be even busier with a longer queue than the previous one. I may go, depends what time I get up! Then car-boot sales of course and it's about time I had the first whippy ice-cream of the season. The ice cream man is always at the boot sales but usually after I've gone home.
More snooker on TV this week with the Seniors World Championship and now we can say, as they used to say about policemen "He doesn't look old enough to be a Pope!" must be the first time there's been one younger than me!
Tomorrow is the 11th, marking seven years since Colin died - no idea where those years have gone. I'm still coping - mostly OK, sometimes not, but I don't dwell on those days.
Back Next Week
Sue
I commented too when we got a "young" pope - yes, they are getting younger like policemen. The youngest ever though, was under twenty!
ReplyDeleteWith luck he should continue for many years. Longer than some recent Popes.
DeleteThe under 20 year old must have been a Very long time ago, can't imagine it happening again
The May Fayre looked a bit devoid of visitors. That East wind none too encouraging though. I hope that the frozen veggie bake has some flavour - the lamb shanks should at any rate.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your biscuits., I like the Lemon ones I make and people who dunk (I don't) say they are perfect for that.
There were stalls in the village hall too and more people looking at those - but it was a really cold morning
DeleteLet us pray that the new Pope is a wise leader [despite his "youth"!]
ReplyDeleteI hope he has some influence where it's needed for common sense and safety
Delete7 years, it doesn't seem possible.
ReplyDeleteIt's frightening how the tears have flown
DeleteWetherspoons still serve cheap pints. I only drink in pubs in England or in the Algarve.
ReplyDeleteI only drink in pubs if I'm having a meal! half a bitter shandy - the Old Lady Drink! - according to both daughters who worked in bars at various times
DeleteIt's ironic that the dawn of supermarkets was supposed to bring everything we needed into one large market to streamline our shopping habits, but there you are hopping from supermarket to supermarket to look for one, once common on every shop shelf, ingredient. We end up spending more on fuel than the pennies we save!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I live in hope of finding a good quality vegetarian food item. It is a disappointing experience.
The shelves of M&S Food Hall are also empty for the same reason. Methinks a time to restock that store cupboard with some long life, not too perishable tins and packets again!
Hard to believe where the time goes when we lose our loved ones. Only yesterday they were here . . .
I knew Aldi wouldn't have coconut - their baking supplies are poor but Asda should have had some - but no. Good old Co-op!
DeleteI really don't know how it can be seven years.
Those seven years feel as though they've gone quickly, hope you have a peaceful day.
ReplyDeleteI had the first ice cream of the season yesterday, treated by a daughter while on a trip to the seaside, Baboo Gelato Hazelnut, very yummy!
Enjoy your weekend, hope you have some car boot finds to share.
Penny
I got my first whippy 99 this morning at the car boot sale at 8.30am!! Strange breakfast!!
DeleteSeven years is the blink of an eye, or a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's both and now three grandchildren are over 7 years old already
DeleteI never note down sad anniversaries and can only just remember birthdays. But Sue you keep yourself active, even if it is only trying to find a good vegetarian product. Actually I think you have to make them your self, I quite liked a sort of beetroot burger but it has since disappeared.
ReplyDeleteI will get back to making some veggie pasty type things - just seem to have got out of the habit since I finished the last batch after Christmas.
DeleteOur local ice cream van has been driving around. It plays greensleeves at breakneck speed.
ReplyDeleteIt's harder to stay upbeat on cold grey days, I find, when those anniversaries come round. Hope the sunny weather helps.
The ice-cream van comes to the village on Sunday afternoons in Summer. I can hear it from various directions but have no idea where he is at any one time!
DeleteThinking of you and how you have coped in these years since your loss of Colin.
ReplyDeleteThank You
DeleteIt is disappointing when we go from the warmth and sunshine to cold again. The same has happened here and it is raining hard today.
ReplyDelete7 years, where did the time go?
You are doing marvelously well, not by choice but determination and it serves you well. Family and interests/hobbies are all important too as you show in your blog writing. Thank you for sharing.
Thankfully we have gone back to sunshine again after a dull week. I love the warmth although of course now everywhere is getting very dry - can't win with English weather.
Delete7 years, 17 years, 27 years ... they all feel the same ... as if "this can't really be" ... when someone you love is missing. xxoxo
ReplyDeleteHope the weather cooperates and you have some luck at the boot sales this weekend. I'm glad you have happy times with Colin to cherish.
ReplyDeleteYou will always have your memories of Colin to cherish and remember him with love. My Mum died 47 years ago and I still miss her. Xx
ReplyDeleteThinking of you as you remember Colin
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
Thinking about you. Seven years is a long time and a minute, both together. You're doing terrific.
ReplyDeleteThe seven years seems to have gone by so quickly. Maybe not as quickly for you though. You definitely should treat yourself to a Mr Whippy, Colin would have insisted. π
ReplyDeleteThose seven years seem to have gone by in the blink of an eye. Hard to imagine. It is kind of nice to have a younger Pope for a change, I only hope that even though he is a registered Republican in the U.S. that he is at least a progressive Republican.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Hope you enjoy an ice cream today and the weather has improved. It’s scorchio up here in Central Scotland so I am washing all the winter jackets and trainers to take advantage of nature’s tumble dryer. Sending you kind thoughts on Colin’s anniversary. Catriona
ReplyDeleteSeven years, but so many memories, remembering the good times is the only way I can get through the anniversaries they’re missing from. The worst of the immediate pain has subsided, but there’s still a ‘something’s missing-ness’ that bursts out unpredictably. And as we age I need those younger people who can fix things, point me in the right direction to get something I probably never knew existed (π³) to make life easier. As for the new pope, he has a huge role to play, and so many issues to sort out within the Roman Catholic Church as well. Poor bloke! What a job!
ReplyDeleteKeep your pecker up, enjoy your Mr Whippy, and the family. XX
