The overnight temperature on Monday was supposed to be around 20℃ - uncomfortable for sleeping - so I took two freezer ice packs and two cooling gel pads to bed with me and slept soundly from 10pm to 4am , perhaps it wasn't as hot as forecast.
I made an effort yesterday morning to go and open up the village hall in case people came for the Keep Moving Exercise group but the few of us who did arrive decided it was far too hot for any sort of exercise so we all went home again to keep cool.
Then it was another good day of Wimbledon tennis on TV and more British men through to the second round. Jack Draper was two sets up when his opponent retired due to injury and Jack Pinnington Jones - one of the wild cards and playing in his first Wimbledon (I think that's what they said) also won in straight sets and lots of top seeds have been knocked out - makes it more fun when that happens. I was glad to be at home flaked out as the temperatures climbed to well over 34℃ there and not much less here. I switched off the lap top before the Djokovic match ended when it was one set each but I expect the old misery won through.
Obviously not a lot of housework was done although I did manage a quick hoover round and picked enough beans for another two meals, they are doing really well, I'm making the most of them as there are no runner beans this year.
It cooled down beautifully late evening and a bit of rain was forecast .
Back Tomorrow
I cannot imagine playing something as strenuous as top class tennis in 34 deg. I would expect them to collapse. I don't blame you all for having an exercise break in that heat.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how they cope with that sort of heat to play. The spectators get hotter than I would want too. Better watching at home
DeleteI missed the first two sets but tuned in at the beginning of the 3rd. The poor man was almost out on his feet, looking really ill, medical time out, doctor called, something administered, and broke serve in the next game! J’nan
ReplyDeleteThat's what I don't like about him, he's been doing that "I'm ill" thing forever.
DeleteIndeed. The king of the timely time-out! The rest of the tennis was great. J’nan
Delete‘Old misery’ won through but not before his opponent gave him a run for his money and made him work a bit. Not so hot down here in the south west thank goodness.
ReplyDeleteMuch cooler this morning there's been a small shower - not enough to do any good
DeleteYou and I think the same "old misery", I try and miss his games he just annoys me. Looks like rain this morning in East Sussex and is cooler thank goodness too hot for me the past few days. The tennis is really good I love Wimbledon. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteI watch in hope he'll get knocked out!
DeleteTuesday was about as hot as I could bear; a friend's primary school had Ofsted in! Cooler this morning ๐
ReplyDeleteOh poor teachers - hope the Ofsted took account of the heat
DeleteIt's been sweltering here, I bailed out of my yoga class because I couldn't face it in the heat.Meant to be a bit cooler today thank goodness, need to get out in the garden and pick soft fruit.
ReplyDeletePenny
Much cooler here today and a bit of rain - no outside watering needed tonight
DeleteI too am no fan of Djokovic. I can't even watch him. I saw the match briefly yesterday, the annoying Andrew Castle was commenting saying how ill poor Djokovic was but he was the greatest player of all time. Not in my book! I switched channels in disgust. I miss Roger Federer.
ReplyDeleteI watched the match hoping he'd be knocked out but guessing he wouldn't be
DeleteTennis is a brilliant distraction from the heat, we woke up to lower temperatures this morning and loads of steady rain.
ReplyDeleteJust very light showers here - added nothing to water butts - lots more tennis watched
DeleteGlad you caught some great Wimbledon action too go Jack Draper! And fresh beans from the garden? Lovely.
ReplyDeleteHope the cool evening brought some sweet relief. Stay comfy!
It was cooler today - huge range of temperatures from one day to the next
DeleteIt's much cooler here this morning, but we've had very little rain so far - I could almost count the raindrops. It's surely time for Wimbledon to suffer heavy rain - it's a tradition!
ReplyDeleteHardly enough rain to do any good but cooler was better for the arthritis management/exercise group, we all said we were glad we weren't there yesterday
DeleteIt's much cooler here today, how they played tennis in that heat yesterday I have no idea.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have wanted to be there watching in that heat either.
DeleteI hope That Man was drug tested - he definitely took 2 tablets before making a miraculous recovery. He must be a misery to live with, worshipping his body like he does.
ReplyDeleteI suppose someone loves him!
DeletePlaying tennis in sweltering heat is unimaginable. The spectators can't be all that comfortable as well.
ReplyDeleteWe had a bit of rain, thunder and lightning last night. It made no difference in high temperature and humidity. I'm watering daily but only flowerpots and the small vegetable garden.
Just showers here but cooler for sleeping. My water butts are now empty
DeleteHeat is hard on me. I can't imagine playing tennis in it...or exercising either. I'm glad you exercising folks went home. Love, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the heat as long as I don't have to be out in it!
DeleteWe're emerging from 100°f heat and high humidity for several days. Back down to the eighties now much better, but very high humidity and drenching storms. It's all about what you're used to.
ReplyDeleteEven tho, it is warm here, I can't complain as I have air conditioning.
ReplyDeleteI would be miserable without it.
I was there and managed 2 hours before I had to come home, though 16yo son lasted til nearly 10-30. It was unbearable on court and what little shade there was off court was rarely shaded. And that was had far too many people trying to get by. So much lovelier in the heat watching from home
ReplyDeleteOh my, you certainly were very warm. We are also in the low 30's so that means any outside work is done early mornings or later in the evening.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Eep. That's hot! You did right to stay in and limit your exertions. We've had a break from the heat this week, and I'm grateful for it. There is nothing worse than trying to get a good night's sleep when the room is stifling.
