Schools are finished for the long summer holiday so I expected the weather to turn wet and horrible this weekend. And sure enough, thunderstorms are forecast for Monday and showers all next week - I'll get those cards made that were on yesterdays post! Thank you for the comments about them and to the many comments on my post about the Commonwealth war graves. Please go back and read them from around the world if you didn't see them all.
So what's been happening this week (After tennis) promised not to mention it again so it's whispered in small letters.
Last Monday was quite breezy and all day the garden was filled with thistledown and as it was hot doors and windows were open so very soon there was nearly as many inside. The hedges, shrubs and cobwebs caught so many and indoors they also found all the cobwebs that I miss - like under the wood-burner!
Here are a few caught on the cobwebs on the whirly washing line
On Tuesday a butterfly that hadn't visited so far this summer popped in. A lovely Comma and then there was rain in the evening - not a lot but every little helps.
On Wednesday I had the last of six in the arthritis management and exercise course. My knee is definitely feeling less painful - especially at night - but stairs will still be a problem - if I had any to use here. Starting in six weeks time I'm going to do another more general exercise thing for another six week course called something like 'move and thrive?' Free again and run by the same young physio fella and same exercises as the eight we've been doing but with a few extras thrown in - cycle and treadmill. I forgot to ask how long it lasts each time - much less than an hour I hope - not sure how I'll get on either.
Friends from Essex visited on Thursday for a couple of hours. I don't see them as often as when Col was alive and we were at the smallholding- we had a good catch up as they hadn't been up since November.
Just woken up to the sound of gentle rain. Much needed - but I'm due to be going to a celebration event in a marquee this afternoon. Rethinking my outfit , especially footwear on muddy grass! Isn't it lively to catch up with old friends?
ReplyDeleteLots of fetes etc this weekend- after weeks of dry weather - Typical!
DeleteDespite what the Govt says re.building more houses, who is going to physically build them? My husband has worked in construction on new builds for a very long time and firms just can't get apprentices to stay and do any of the trades - building, plumbing, joinery, etc. The apprentices come for a week or so and then give it up. Not many are coming through to replace the oldies.
ReplyDeleteOne site closed down for two weeks because someone went on holiday and there was no back up - that meant lots of others didn't get paid- crazy
DeleteWhat a treat to have a whippy ice cream! Still hot and clammy here so must get some housework done before it really heats up. Catriona
ReplyDeleteMy second this year - at a more sensible time than the 8.30am one at a boot sale
DeleteLooking forward to Karen Pirie on Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI need to watch the first series again - can't remember anything except they were good
DeleteJust read, What ever happened to the Corbets by Neville Shute. Highly recommend it Sue. June
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to re read several as it was 50 years ago when I read them
DeleteLiving back here in Wales in a sea side town, we too have traffic problems, too much of it and no where to park! I read a Nevil Shute book last year and had forgotten how old fashion his view of women was, positively insulting, but that was those times, has it really changed??
ReplyDeleteThey are not all like that
DeleteI love the title of this blog post - it sounds so summery and would make a wonderful title for a book - romance? mystery? autobiography?
ReplyDeleteMore interesting than my usual "Saturday round up" title!
DeleteI like the title, too! I appreciate bloggers who do creative naming.
ReplyDeleteAngela at Tracing Rainbows has the best titles!
DeleteIsn't Karen Pirie good? The new ones are starting here on Brit Box -- I think the 28th. Can't wait. It's a lovely post, Sue. A fun excursion to the sea and the ice cream looks good. I hope that the therapy at the pain clinic helps. I know arthritis can be such a challenge, but yes, working it does help. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to watch the first series to remind me what it was about.
DeleteOsteoarthritis used to be called 'Wear and Tear' and was accepted but exercises do help
So you don't have screens on your doors or windows? I learn something new quite often from bloggers around the world. Hope your weekend is going well and the weather isn't too hot (or rainy)!
ReplyDeleteScreens aren't normally needed - we don't get too many biting critters
DeleteI love a MR Whippy Ice Cream, haven't had one for a couple of years!
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
My second this year - there might be more!
DeleteI hope you finished your ice cream before it melted. X
ReplyDeleteOnly just - it was so hot, it was melting fast
DeleteLife sounds like it's going right along as it should, for you, Sue. Hurray! That ice cream cone looks divine!!! Love, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteWalking along the coast on a clear sunny day is so enjoyable and your sea was calm with beautiful views.
ReplyDeleteHousing shortages seem to be everywhere. In MA a new housing mandate has been levied for all towns close to train and subway stations. Zoning for high density, multifamily housing has been established.
The lack of construction/trade people are also a problem in MA. It will be interesting to watch this play out.
In Australia here and we too have a housing crisis. Apparently its not just the workforce but also getting materials because everything comes from China! I only know Thistledown from Bridgerton! lovely post.
ReplyDeleteI actually like the Karen Pirie books much better than McDermid's other series. But she was barely in the first book - maybe you'd like it better if you move onto the second one? I don't think I've seen a TV series listed here but it's probably available on a streaming service I don't get.
