Charity Shop Shopping?

On one of the rainy days last month I was watching a few youtubers - I'd been looking at Railway Cottage Rebecca - she's so enthusiastic! Anyway I popped into a vlog of someone who setting out for a charity shop 'haul'. She said "I don't want to spend much............not more than £50!" Blimey! I love a good tour round the charity shops but I've never set out to spend money, definitely Not that much!
Perhaps she was buying to resell - I suppose it's still a thing, but with postage prices and so many others doing the same thing it must be difficult to earn much. I didn't stay to the end to see what she found - it was extremely boring to watch and  listen to.......as are many youtubers!

My tour round the 6 charity shops of Diss recently (there are 7 but I forgot about the Big C on my way out of town) wasn't a haul - just one thing - something that will be a Christmas present.

It's a very pretty tin holding  hand-creams for gardeners and was £4. I'd keep it myself just for the tin if I had a use for it but don't need it and the hand-creams are probably too scented for me so I will be good and put it in the cupboard for December.

  1. That was a good find. I rarely find anything worth having in CS these days, I think Vinted has done them a disservice. Gosh, yes, waffling you tubers, I’ve given up on those as well, just get to the point. Sarah Browne.

  2. Perhaps if that woman is buying vintage clothes, a £50 budget would be reasonable. I check the charity shops in Llandod, as there is someone my size who can afford to buy Seasalt clothes new and regularly has a cull!!

  3. That is a good find. I know what you mean about being too scented. As I get older I get my tolerance for scent has declined significantly.

Can’t stand most vlogs and videos people do - especially of those who don’t edit and blather away stating the obvious “I am walking on the side of a field, the path is a bit muddy but the sun is shining” (all of which are obvious from the video) “here is a church, here are gravestones”

  5. I used to amuse myself watching various crafting vlogs on YT but most dropped by the wayside, especially the one where the woman used the word "pop" every third or fourth word! She'd popped on this morning to pop a few words about how she'd popped a card in the post that she'd made by popping a few pieces of ephemera on a card blank that popped out of her drawer . . . until I wanted to tell her to pop off!!!
I did find a really lovely, gentle, thrift conscious, make do and mend, weaving and craft blog called Ply and Dye with Becca. A lovely, gently spoken creative lady.

  6. That's so pretty.
There are so many podcasters these days and some feel they have to tell their life story and experience before they get to their point. Very trying.

  7. That will be a nice present for someone.
I had almost given up on finding decent clothes in charity shops but stumbled across two nice blouses recently, pretty sure they've never been worn and I think they came from the White Stuff shop two doors up from the charity shop.
I have sold a few things on Vinted myself but people seem to want to pay very little and I'd rather give to the charity shop now. I think they have suffered since the advent of Vinted and it's a way for me to support charities.

  8. I do like Rebecca's videos at the moment, especially while she is back on WW2 rations. I don't like the ones that waffle on too much so I tend to fast-forward. Funnily enough a box pops up in the corner saying something about 'frequently forwarded section', so I'm not the only one.

  9. My library's big fundraiser is tonight - a yarn sale! People donate yarn left over from projects and local stores donate yarn that is old or unpopular. I am not much of a knitter (simple scarves only) but I do love yarn so it is fun to help. But what always makes me laugh is that sometimes people donate a 75% finished project that I guess they just got tired of. I wonder if those who buy them pretend they completed the whole thing?

  10. Yes, as others above mentioned, some YouTubers need to be fast forwarded don’t they ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚
Nice Christmas present for someone that you found.

  11. That will be a lovely gift and the tin is so pretty. There’s a knitting group starting at our local library next week and they are looking for donations of wool. I suggested they changed it to yarn as it’s unlikely that people will donate wool. I suspect they will struggle as there are so many knitting groups in the area already. The last time I looked in charity shops for yarn, I found I could buy it cheaper from other outlets. Catriona
