Winter has been put in the cupboard.
Spring is on the shelf with the March plate having it's first outing. At first I could only find the two Beswick birds, then remembered the hare usually sits here for March ( the rest of the time he is on the other bookshelves), it still looked a little bare so after a bit of thinking I remembered the Flower Fairy book from the children's book shelves.....that'll do.
There are so many weather sayings in March. The time when farmers would have started to sow and prepare for the years growing they would be eager to have an idea of what the weather held for their crops.
A peck of dust in March is worth a kings ransom
So many fogs in March, so many frosts in May
A dry and cold March never begs for bread
These are the first lines of John Clare's Shepherd's Calendar for March
"Confidence becomes very low for this period. However, the preferred scenario is that blocking high pressure will remain mostly dominant, increasing the probability of colder conditions compared to average. Spells of rain are more likely than of late, especially at first, with a chance of snow in some areas. Some wintry episodes may be disruptive due to the potential combination of snow and strong winds"
Spring is coming, not here yet on the Canadian Prairies, but hopefully very soon.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
We haven't really had a proper winter yet so it might be a cold March
DeleteI love that plate.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy these posts. March to me means that an end to winter is in sight! It's not over yet and not a lot will be growing, but Spring will be coming!
All the Months of the Year plates have now been out - so it's a year since I bought them!
DeleteLovely display and lovely that spring is just around the corner
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
Hopefully if we get a spell of cold it wont last long
DeleteI'm not familiar with many of thoses sayings. Your Spring display is perfect.
ReplyDeleteSome weird sayings found in my books this time
DeleteMarch: "In like a lion. Out like a lamb".
ReplyDeleteEveryone knows that one!

Deb in Wales
Thank you
DeleteMarch feels a lot more spring like than February, which always seems to be the clawed hands of winter hanging on. There is a little green in the hedgerows locally, but it is just the small wild gooseberry bushes. I need some green now. Happy St David's day - at least there are Daffodils in flower for the children to take one each to school, as mine used to.
ReplyDeleteThe Daffodils up the road on the bank by the church are now coming out looking lovely - the few in my garden are well behind. Think it's time for flowers when I go shopping this week
DeleteWith the lighter nights and mornings, blue skies it does feel as if spring has arrived, but as soon as you go outside it's bitter, March has a habit of dropping snow on us along the south coast, so no gardening yet. Hubby is Welsh, so it's a special day here.
ReplyDeleteWe get snow in March sometimes too - it might happen this year. Enjoy your special Welsh day
DeleteI wonder if Winter has truly left us though. Today it seems iron cold here. x
ReplyDeleteA bit grey here today but not extra cold
DeleteHappy St David's Dy to you too Sue. March here has really not come in as a lion or a lamb. It is chilly with showers and sun at short intervals.
ReplyDeleteNo lion or lamb here either, just grey and chilly
DeleteLovely display! Catriona
ReplyDeleteThank you, makes a little change of view.
DeleteI really like your display, Sue. March is coming in like a lamb here today - sunny and warmer than usual. I expect we may see colder weather yet before Spring gets here...
ReplyDeleteI was at a thrift store the other day and saw a stack of plates. I was so excited. I thought they were like your collection of plates.Alas, they were all 'fall' scenes. But I love those plates.
ReplyDeleteYour March display is lovely showing Spring birds and flowers blooming. "Beware the ides of March," as said by Shakespeare. If only my March looked like your display! Snow is everywhere with some ice. At least the sun is shining this morning and the ice/snow is sparkling.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, that means it is Autumn here! And this morning we have thick fog, so typical of autumn. I don't really mind, because I normally like the autumn season - only this year we have had no summer and the thought of winter coming is a bit lowering. But it is what it is. Enjoy your Spring :)
ReplyDeleteI really do love your seasonal shelf - it's so pretty and celebratory.
ReplyDeleteI hope we don't get snow but, even round here, the BBC is predicting a bit. Fingers crossed. xx
I enjoy seeing your seasonal decorations. I need to change mine as well. We will have people at our house for dinner next week so there needs a bit of clearing out items and spring items. It is still chilly here. We did have a bit of snow in the morning on Tuesday but it went away late morning. We were able to go on a walk this afternoon after husband got home from work. Not been on a walk for almost a week but it did feel good to walk again! Have a blessed week!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to think that Spring is on it's way, and I have daffodils in the garden and in a jug on the shelf to prove it.
ReplyDeleteAlthough on the weather forecast on the BBC last night they warned of very cold weather coming back next week, so I'm holding off on the seed sowing for a couple more weeks.
I am grateful for the enthusiasm and knowledge the author has for different topics, and for sharing them with us.
