Another St Mary's. Bedingfield

Another flower festival in another small church, in another small village in the middle of the agricultural landscape of mid Suffolk

A few weeks ago I went to St. Mary's Bedingfield where they also had a mini Fete and stalls in the churchyard alongside the flower festival.

The theme of the flower festival was 'celebrating a special day'.

  1. I love the creative thinking behind the flower festivals, people work so hard on their displays. Even better when it is a sunny day and people can stroll round the mini fete too. Is this a British thing,or do they have them elsewhere? I don't recall mention of them on the overseas blogs I follow

  2. The displays are wonderfully inventive. I am sure the people who made them must have had a lot of fun thinking of the ideas, gathering the materials together and then actually making them. To see other people enjoying them must be the icing on the cake.

  3. Interesting question that Angela above has raised. Somehow these events seem so beloved of the UK . I loved seeing these flower arrangements and the gazebos etc in the churchyard.

  4. We haven't had one here for a few years now, so long overdue. It makes for a lovely time out, especially when you get glorious sunshine and blue skies. Do you know, are the teams assigned the subject, or is it self nominated?

  5. Some wonderful arrangements. The Harvest Festival is my favourite, because I do love a sunflower. Xx

  6. It looked like a proper summer day and a very pleasant outing. The flower arrangements are superb - what patience people have.

  7. I think the inexpensive gazebos have made such a difference to outdoor events as they provide shade or rain over for the stall holders. The flowers are all lovely but my favourite was the RNLI one. Catriona

  8. A fete and a flower festival in a small church in the middle of the countryside is so quintessentially English and romantic - love it! :)

  9. Oh I do love a proper village fete, I haven't been to one for a long time. The flower displays are very inventive, but I still prefer a simple bunch of flowers in a jug, I'm obviously a girl of very basic and simple tastes.

  10. Oh those are great arrangements celebrating special days!
This is the second post I have seen today that mentioned the RNLI celebrating 200 years! I hadn't even heard of them before today and now I am exploring their history on Google! Thanks, Sue.

  11. Flower festivals seem exclusive to Britain. They are lovely community events. We have flower shows that tend to be very commercial and they are held in convention centers or large rented estates. Alternatively there are also city/town Garden Clubs where club members open their home gardens for tours. I've attended both types of shows/tours and come home with business cards from commercial landscapers. Entree fees range from $50-100.

  12. Sue, I’m from Texas and have read your blog for several years. My favorite ones you post are the visits to churches. I just love the history and pictures.
    Thanks, Sandy
