It's been an age since I did a taste test and these have been in the freezer since Christmas, I bought them from Aldi when I didn't know what was happening and when and who would be here.
About time I tried one. Like so many of the other vegetarian lattice bakes I've eaten in the last few years
it was OK but not exceptional. There weren't many cranberries to be found inside.
I'll eat the other one but won't buy them again.
But I'm definitely Not trying something DiL tried recently from Aldi.......... Spinach and Cheddar Grills - she said they were really nasty!

It is disappointing when the product doesn't match up with the photo on the box - particularly pies, where there often seems to be less filling, and fewer of the fancy ingredients.
ReplyDeleteI like to keep trying different things but they are often a let down
DeleteIt’s a shame when the contents don’t match the description/photo. I finished the last of our Christmas freezer bits by the end of January as I couldn’t throw them out. Like you, I know which ones I won’t be buying again. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI've still got another pack of something in the freezer to try - hope they will be better
DeleteI've not really found any pre-made veggie things I could honestly say I really like, they're mostly a disappointment. But, like you, I do feel I have to eat them rather than chuck them out.
ReplyDeleteHave to be tried just in case they are delicious - but they are usually a let down
DeleteI actually think that your cooked finished dish looks better than the image on the box. I've been finding a lot of pastry products to be very unsatisfying recently. They seem to be all puff or flaky pastry and very little filling. I guess homemade will always win out, but it's good to try things even if it is only to stop us from buying them again.
ReplyDeleteThere wasn't much filling in the lattice, it was mainly pastry which was OK but I'll keep trying different things just in case.
DeleteI find they pretty much all promise a lot and give not much at all. A shame though - they look good according to the photo. xx
ReplyDeleteYes, exactly right - Oh well!
DeleteLooks like a dessert.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought about it but I guess you are right
DeleteCheddar and spinach doesn't even sound good to me. Spinach and swiss perhaps. I wonder if you could saute the spinach with a bit of onion and make yourself a grilled swiss cheese and spinach sandwich. Hmmmm....must give it a try! We're having grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup tonight.
ReplyDeleteI've given up on frozen packaged items. The photo on the box always looks better than the product actually tastes.
ReplyDeleteI've started making and freezing a few veggie side dishes that I like rather well.
Vegetable fried rice (simple cooked rice with mixed veggies, garlic and salt/pepper to taste with olive oil and butter) and roasted potatoes cut in chunk size pieces mixed with mushrooms and green beans (add olive oil, butter, garlic and salt/pepper to taste).
I almost always batch make things for meals to freeze in portions but sometimes try these weird things.
DeleteYour veggie meals sound good
I've had those Spinach and Cheddar Grills from Aldi - they are truly revolting!
ReplyDeleteDiL said Son should try some when she said how bad they were and he said they couldn't be That Bad. He tried - they were!
DeleteSo sorry that those didn't live up to a product you would enjoy. The photo looks like it would have been very tasty.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It's such a shame. The quality of these products has really declined. Occasionally, I like to buy a frozen pie when it's on sale, but I noticed that the last pie I purchased had shrunk! There was more crust than filling. While I do enjoy a flaky crust, this was just ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry it didn't turn out well. The spinach and cheese ones might be quite tasty. I'm not a fan of spinach, but sometimes it's not too bad.
ReplyDeleteHow about the sodium content? I would buy more vegetarian stuff, but it ha so much sodium. Or maybe that's an American thing?
