Another Jug..........Now How Did That Happen..............

Early Sunday morning I had to go to Number 9 to see if the boiler service receipt was in the draw with cooker instructions and other things left for the new owners. The buyers solicitors said that I'd only included a 2015 service report, I'm sure I sent the 2016 one to our solicitors, but luckily had kept a copy of the receipt.
On the way back I "happened" to call in at our nearest car boot sale which has just restarted after the winter
Not many booters there yet but I came away with these and yes, that is another little jug. Interestingly this one, which was £1, says "Tonquin" Staffordshire  Dinnerware  by Clarice Cliff on the base but its very unlike the bright geometric designs normally associated with Clarice Cliff ,  just a pink and white pastoral scene, transfer printed. Also in the picture a big punnet of mushrooms for £1, more Sudoku books for 50p each, Mangetout seeds 50p each and old book from the 1920s also 50p and in the front a new padded gilet/waistcoat for me to wear when working outside also a 50p bargain.

Did you know Ostara or Eostre is one of the names given to the Vernal or Spring Equinox. Named after a goddess of spring and new life and presumably turning into Easter as Christianity spread.
That was yesterday, which was not at all spring-like.Grey and windy in the morning and pouring rain in the afternoon. Before it rained I managed to finish the last bit of weeding on the soft fruit bed so it's all ready for planting the gooseberry bushes when they arrive.
Col went online to source some Niger seed and suet fat balls for the birds and with the order came a plant catalogue. Now I'm seriously tempted by their offer of  "spend £25 and get a lemon tree for £1.99". I could get an apricot tree, or 2, like we had at the smallholding. So deliciously tempting!

  1. If you need £25 of bird seed then go for it! Love that big carton of mushrooms ~ yum! Mushrooms with pretty much everything here ~obviously not in breakfast cereal or coffee lol.

    1. Sadly the offer wasn't from the wild bird company so I would need to buy from the small catalogue they sent which was mainly flowers.

  2. I get confused by the dates of both equinoxes! At school, we were taught 21st March, 21st June, 23rd September and 21st December. Now it appears it is the 20th March - who knew!!

    1. Maybe it's movable and is today - which at least is sunnier but with an icy cold wind blowing across the field. I had a Folklore diary for Christmas so just going by what it says in there.

    2. The dates of both the equinoxes and solstices vary according to the exact time, so can be on the 20th or 21st of the relevent month. This year, for example, I believe the Autumn Equinox falls on 22nd Sept, but next year on the 23rd. If you search online you can find the exact moment of the event.

  3. Have you ever tried garden wildlife direct for bird food? They are very good. Great car boot buys ours started last weekend.

  4. I haven't been to a car boot sale for ages - I think I shall look to see when they start around here . . . I'm in need of another jug! Do you haggle? I never have the courage, just pay what is asked. But I do love to wander round and find bits and bobs that appeal to me (not good when trying to be clutter-free!)

    1. I tend to stick to things that are 50p and £1 but will try a haggle for anything over that.

  7. You have much more Ostara, than we do! Still snow cover, over here, in the North East.

But my garden decoration faeries, managed to peek up through the snow. I take that as a good sign! :-)

    1. Cold weather forecast here for a few days, which I don't mind as long as it's sunny

  8. There is something called Equilux as well, though what it is I couldn't say. Equal days flow past quickly, think there is a four day time frame.

  10. Still waiting for our car boot to start, the field has been too wet. Not a bad haul for your first one.

  13. We have been going to our local (as in only TEN miles away!) car boot sale since early February. Not a lot happening there as yet, but we've had some good buys all the same.

As parsnip said, you sound so much happier in your cottage now, and you can PLAN for the future and what you will plant and grow, and how things will look.

I don't blame you for your little jug. We, ahem, have made a slightly BIGGER purchase!
