No Land Line

We thought we would try something radical............well kind of.............No land line.

Except the dongle we had wouldn't work at the cottage.

I'm typing this at the hospital while Col has his regular blood test.

We're going to get another dongle ASAP, failing that we'll have to resort to expensive BT.

Thank you for dozens of welcomes.
I have some posts in drafts so will schedule a couple.

Back eventually

Sue

  1. We had a land line here when we moved it, but have virgin and don't have a land line phone, our internet bill is £22.25 a month, may be worth looking into.

  2. I think landlines will soon be a thing of the past, Sue, and it's worth a try without it. Hope Col is OK after the blood test today, and his health improves.
    All good wishes,

  3. I will never give up my landline {or writing cheques, or buying things by post!} until they make me. We don't have the strength of signal to be without anyway.
Hope Col has good news after the blood test.

  4. We subscribe to a broadband company instead of a dongle or a land line. The company attach a dish to the gable. I hope you enjoy living in your new house

  5. I agree with Galant, landlines are becoming a thing of the past, my brothers, children and grandchildren all use cellphones and have no land line. I guess as long as you remember to charge it you're okay.

  6. I had an EE dongle a few years ago when we were on holiday in Norfolk and it didn't work. I took it to an EE shop and they couldn't work it out nor could the phone advisor. The first person at our local shop couldn't sort it either then finally a lovely lady worked out that it was our security on the laptop stopping it. Too late by then! Hope you get it sorted and best wishes in your new home.

  7. We haven't had a landline for several years now, something that a lot of people are doing now. We live out in the country and couldn't even get a lot of the services we were paying for on our landline.

  8. Hope all goes well with Col's blood test. The only reason I have a landline is to call my Mum - cell phone doesn't seem to work so well.

  9. We have our land line with ’free' 01,02 and 03 number calls 24/7, plus superfast fibre optic broadband, and the full TV package with Sky.
It's fairly expensive, but worth it as it's the way we keep in touch with our scattered relatives!

  10. Wishing you all the best. We use Magic Jack phone service for $20/year. I don't know if it's available in the UK. It works great! Pat

  11. Hiya! LOVE your new place, so much more YOU.
Over the years, with David's health issues, we have been asked why we don't move to something more "manageable" we'd rather be happy doing what we can as long as we can, whatever and whenever that is. Good luck to Col with his tests.

  12. So much more fun to be able to get on with things you enjoy, instead of treading water while you wait.

  14. Well done Sue, when we eventually move to Suffolk, we shall have to meet. I envy you in your house albeit without a landline and things that need doing, we're still waiting for this last buyer to go through the buying process! We're living in 'box city' suffering from fed-upitis!!

  15. We a,so have no land line - where we live BT Broadband is not broad and barely band. Not fast enough to load the Guardian website. So we went with a local broadband provider and have VOIP through them - free long distance calls to most countries as well. Only downside is that when broadband goes out we have no phone.

  16. We've not had a landline since moving to Wales and apart from one two week period when the mobile mast that we get our signal from came down in high winds and couldn't be fixed straight away we have had no problems.

We get our internet through a satellite but usually a dongle can work out well, and I think we would try that next time we move.
