A Good Weekend

The Saturday swimming session was good, only 2 people in the slow half. Somehow going every 5 days rather than once a week has really helped up the fitness levels - or that might just be wishful thinking! I undid any good by stopping at the Chinese takeaway in Eye on my way home for a treat.πŸ˜‹  First time since March.

Saturday night and I settled down to watch the return of the glittery, sparkly and happy Strictly Come Dancing. It was interesting to see how they had worked out a way to bring it back and thank goodness all the pro-dancers were willing to isolate themselves from family for a few weeks to pre-record all the group dances. I never thought I'd be so excited to see a bit of happy TV!

Then on Sunday I went mad and visited TWO car boot sales. It was the last day for both which is probably a good thing as both sites were muddy. I nearly didn't stop at the small local one as the car park looked like somewhere my Fiesta would get well stuck in the mud! but at the last moment found a parking space right by the road out.

At the first boot sale I found this fairly heavy brand new casserole/frypan with lid for £8. It's by Crofton which is the name Aldi sell their cookware under. Not  huge heavyweight cast iron like Le Creuset

- had one of those once - a long time ago - it was too heavy to lift - but this lighter one should last a while. Also got given the free Slimming World Magazine with FREE chocolate cereal bar - promoting a local Slimming World group. Free is good!

At the 2nd boot sale (it was getting a bit late by boot-sale standards) my spend was 20p for the two Christmas books which will be added to the heap I have in the cupboard for youngest Granddaughter and £1.50 for a big bag of eating apples .

In a dry bit of Sunday afternoon I hooked the trailer onto the mower and shifted some of the heap of road-planings down the lane to fill in the worst of the holes that have appeared after the recent rain, then  used some more in my gateway. There's still quite a good amount left - hopefully enough for more hole filling as the winter goes on.

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  1. Strictly was lovely, wasn't it? A bit heavy handed with the 'this is how we are keeping safe' but so nice to have the music and the sparkle back again and some of the pairings look really good. Poor old Anton though!!
That pan is brilliant and there are some good recipes in the latest SW magazine, I think.
It sounds like it was a lovely weekend all round.

    1. Yes, poor Anton! I keep thinking, much as I like him, he'll have to give up soon...he is about 20 years older than most of the other pros. But then they need an older guy to partner the older women celebs...

I must be getting old...each year when they reveal the new bunch of celebs, I know fewer and fewer of them!

    2. Yes it was brilliant and typical BBC with the "look how careful we are being" overload.
I guess Anton doesn't mind that he gets the poor old ladies!

The SW mag was a VERY old one but the chocolate was still in date! and I've learned more about how to properly use low fat spray cooking oil so might change to that.

  2. I love Nick Butterworth books! I recently passed on to Rosie one which had belonged to Liz over 30 years ago, called "My Mum is fantastic" (cos she is)

    1. We didn't watch Strictley for the first 3 years but then there was a cricketer on it and Col wanted to see how he got on and since then we watched every year. Now it cheers up my Saturday evenings alone for a few months

  4. We thought we would make the effort and go to the last boot sale but the gates were locked and no one home. They must have put a notice on their website. Usually they put a 'see you next year' notice up.

    1. That's a bit annoying. Both sites I visited were so muddy after all the rain this month so both are closing earlier than usual

  5. I thought Strictly was great, just what I need right now, a glittery, easy to watch Saturday evening programme. I’ve never taken it too seriously which I think a lot of people tend to do. Love the new casserole pan, I always wanted Le Creuset but by the time all the contents were in, so heavy to lift. I went out foraging on Saturday with my youngest son and granddaughter, we came back with just short of four pound of of Bramley apples and a load of lovely red eating apples, am going to turn some into chutney later.

    1. I enjoy the group dances and seeing how some of the "celebs" progress and really get into the whole thing.

Out of the set of 3 Le Ceuset pans I had about 35 years ago only a small one survives- just used for boiling eggs.

How handy to find a tree of eating apples - mine here have finished

  6. I'm happy to hear your swimming session was good. Hopefully that means you didn't have the slower swimmer blocking the lane for the others.

We get Dancing With the Stars here which I think is similar to your Strictly Come Dancing. It is good that these programs have worked out ways to carry on despite the pandemic. We have been having a lot more game shows here since they only have a few people involved and are not having an audience. I enjoy some game shows so that is fine with me.

How nice that you were able to visit two car boot sales! I love the casserole pan you got. That is a good size for many things. And of course free items are always good!

  7. I love estate sales. We don't have boot sales. A good bargain is exciting, but I have not gone to many because of the covid stuff.

  8. Does Len Goodman still judge Strictly or has he gone to the great beyond? I don't watch Dancing with the Stars because my husband hates it.
The casserole pan is such a good find. I agree with you about Le Creuset, way too heavy.
