Ogham Tree Alphabet 12th Lunar Month

When I looked in The Ogham Tree Alphabet book to see what tree represented the 12 lunar month it turned out to be Wheatstraw! ............................. Where to find wheat straw in November?

The Wheat-straw Page from Karen Cater's book" Ogham Sketch Book"

When we traveled to visit friends in Essex we would pass a sign for Corncraft  and that's where I went a few weeks ago, before the latest lock-down. (Thank  goodness I went then and didn't wait until November!)

They had dozens of different corn-dollies from teeny to very large and this is the one I bought.

My Corn Dolly is now hanging on the dresser, looking very good.

Thanks again for comments about moving, I only found some yesterday. The next house will be the 11th house I've lived in in my 65 years from a C16 cottage to a New Build in 1975, Victorian  to 1700's, from small garden to 5 acres , bungalows and houses - I've seen them all! (not forgetting the caravan!) and no I don't have any worries about moving and yes I'll still be in Suffolk probably only 10 or so miles from where I am now. The benefit of a new build by a large house-building company is they have a NHBC warranty and a person in a sales office to moan at if things go wrong!!

I was confused by one comment from MargaretP

"If you plan to have a nice garden, don't forget to include good access through fencing etc." ??
AKA a gate I presume!

House photos here have been taken and by the wonders of modern technology the house should be on the market by the weekend or Monday at the latest. The Estate agent said did I want a sign up outside and I said they needed to put up 2, one at the end of the lane on the road and one outside the house because when the property at the other end of the lane went up for sale with no For Sale signs no-one could find it and I had loads of people driving right up to my end of the lane looking completely lost.
Unfortunately yesterday was too windy for a drone photo to show the whole garden and meadow which would have been a good idea but never mind.

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  2. You get a lot more for your money from your English house agent - we have never YET had a For Sale sign put up outside our house! Agents don't do them it seems, if you are not on a well-used road.

Good luck in your new-build. It sounds like it is on an Estate so you will have neighbours.

    1. Here agents will do whatever you want them to do - and I'm paying them so they definitely will do what I want!

  3. Your corn dolly is sweet - it has a very autumnal look to it.

    1. It's odd but when I hung it up I suddenly had a memory of having a little Horse-shoe shaped one years and years ago which I'd completely forgotten about

  4. Maybe MargaretP means good access via a small hole in the fence for hedgehogs? {As seen on telly last night}

    1. Ah yes, I was thinking that too. It is hard to believe they are critically endangered. I need to make a hole or two in our fence as well. Rosie

    2. Yes, that was my first thought. You can actually get those concrete fence base panels with a little arched entrance cut into them :-)

    3. I'm not sure what sort of fencing they'll put round the plots on a new estate nowadays. but a hedgehog passage way is a good idea

    4. That was what I was thinking - hedgehog access. Very important. They are in decline.

  5. I love the corn dolly.
You are wise to have a sale board that people can see where you are, I never had a sale board
I was in an estate and I did not want people just knocking on the door, the estate agents did it all for me, depends were you live.
Looks as thou it's going to be a nice day, the washing is ready to be hung out.

    1. We've always had a sign up and don't think anyone has ever turned up without an appointment - if they did I would make them arrange it with the agent

  6. You're not letting grass grow under your feet are you? Or was your mind made up a while ago?

  7. I agree about the sale board. On Monday there was a car parked outside and people staring at the house. I went and asked if I they were looking for something. Was our house the one for sale? No, it's the neighbours' property. They ended up borrowing a pen and paper and writing a note to put through the door (are you still on the market? Which agent? Please ring us) A sale board with details would have made things a lot easier all round!

    1. The house down the other end didn't even have a house name up - it was the one that had never been lived in after being built - sitting empty for 15+ years, no one had a clue where it was.

  8. A very good idea to ask for two boards to be put up, so many country houses are hard to find without a board, especially when they are tucked up at the end of a lane and maybe share postcodes with a vast amount of other properties.

Our house is going back on the market after Alan removed it for some reason a couple of weeks ago. I think he wanted to launch it afresh in Spring of next year but I reminded him of the Stamp Duty break and that we would miss most of it if we waited until March. Fingers crossed we sell this time as we are going on with a different agent, one who's grandad used to own our house and he visited as a child, so he can see at a glance how it has developed with various owners.

    1. The Estate Agent and the photographer both had to ring me to find out where I was - so signs are a must.

Hope your new Agent gets it sold ASAP. Bigger houses with land are "flying off the shelves" in Suffolk! Even the one I thought about buying on the new estate has been reserved - but there will be others the same later. Can't reserve one until mine has sold subject to contract

  9. Developers have a habit of building new houses without access from front to rear of the property for lawnmowers, rotovators etc with no side access. I think this is what your commenter meant although I didn't see the comment. I am sure you would bear this in mind anyway. I like the idea of a new house and all the modern day insulation and economy that developers have to include in new houses. I was not surprised that the move was the decision you were talking about as you have talked about it for a while that it would happen one day. It is funny when you know the time is right, but you do. x

  10. I thought that comment about fence access might relate to having a section of fencing that could be removed for easy access for gardeners - when we had a large planter box installed they took down a section of fence (with great difficulty!) so they could more easily bring in cubic metres of soil etc. But I do like the Hedgehog door idea!

  11. Sorry for the confusion, all homes and yards are different and some builders are known to cut corners on varied things .
I meant access to the yard with gardening supplies and barrows etc.
Hedgehog doorway sounds lovely, every little thing that helps the wildlife is worth a try.

  12. You are right to move whilst you still can rather than wait until you have to move under pressure. We literally managed our move with a month to spare before my husband was ill and would not have coped in a house anymore. The advantages of a new build are that they are built to be wheelchair accessible etc so you don't have to move again, or live through building work. Good luck with your move and I hope it will be a happy new home!
