Saturday in Week 36 of Strange Times

Another week gone - surely we are getting to the end of this second lock down? How many days left?............. 9 I think.......Only 9 I hope but who knows and as for what's happening for Christmas, no one seems to agree on the way forward.

What have I done this week......................Not A Lot, apart from doing a good house clean and tidy ready for the House Photographs it's been a nothing sort of week (and apologies for not replying to all the comments yesterday about the house ad and St Edmund)

Although I did get one vegetable bed weeded so I suppose that's a plus and made half a dozen jars of lemon marmalade from a tin of the prepared lemons.

Haven't  mentioned  how I'm getting on with.................

I will be popping out today for fresh fruit and some frozen bits and I really must get on with ordering/buying some presents for the grandchildren that are not yet sorted. Already organised are hampers for the 2 sisters and Brothers in Law, small presents for penfriends. The 3 children and their OH's will get money. Just leaving BiL who is always a problem.  I'm not doing gifts for niece and nephews this year, who are all grown up with their own houses and earning more than me!........ (now there are 4 grandchildren something had to give). The plan for my 12 days of Christmas treats has ground to a halt at 7 as I can't think of anything else!

Oh, remembered another thing I've done, and that is to take a whole lot of photos for the Advent Photos 2020 posts. I'm planning something a bit different to the last 5 years.

This week I'm grateful for
  • Good photographer who took some excellent house photos
  • Some dry days to get gardening done
  • Always something to watch on TV .......... tennis this week
  • Mild weather most of the  week - saving oil.

And finally isn't it brilliant to see Pat at Weaver of Grass home safe and sound and back blogging and also hello and welcome to some new followers.

I will return on Monday - full of bright ideas for blog posts.................I'm lying about the bright ideas!

Sue

  1. I like the sound of those buns because I'm very keen on the flavour of caraway seeds (or fruit as the case may be). I make a sweet and sour red cabbage dish using caraway (The Diary Book of Home Cookery - where else?!)

  2. Hi Sue
I just found your blog - I am Kate, the woman who took your goats on many years ago! I had been trying to find your contact details to tell you a quick story - I hope you and your readers might enjoy it. I bought Mandy and Izzy from you when Izzy was a kid - Izzy is still very much with us although getting on now. Her daughter was due to give birth 3 days ago and decided that she wanted to do so in the field rather than in the lovely warm stable I had prepared for her. As her time approached she stood all night in the middle of the field and every time I checked on her, there was her mum Izzy, standing solidly next to her, sheltering her from the wind. When she finally got down to the business of labour, Izzy stood back at a respectful distance, her front feet up on the hay rack so that she could watch over her daughter. I know it sounds sentimental but Izzy has never behaved like this before. Since the birth, she has been doing fantastic grandmother duty although she shows no interest whatsoever in doing so for the other new mum, who is her niece, not her daughter and who had 2 kids rather than just the 1 so could actually do with a bit of babysitting!
I hope you don't mind this long comment - I thought you might like to know that your original goats have gone on to create a lovely herd who have given me and my family so much pleasure, not to mention fantastic milk, cheese etc. All best wishes - Kate

    1. Hello Kate - Lovely to hear from you, so good to hear Nodishall Izzy is still with you ( The only goat I ever registered!)and looking after her family.
I'm glad you found my blog just in time to see I'm on the move again 2 and a half years after Colin died.

Every time I peel an apple or carrots I still think of my goats who always enjoyed the peelings.

  3. What a lovely message from Kate - shows the positive power of the internet, too. Putting your house on the market the other day and yet you describe it as a nothing sort of week! I suppose it won't feel real until you have a buyer. Sorry but I think it's still 12 days to the end of lockdown! Seems so much longer this time. All the best, Vicki

  6. I seconded the lovely message from Kate, most people are hapoy with there lot, we have so much to be grateful for, I can not understand people who are always moaning especially when they have enough money to get by and a home to be in.
Hope you get your presents sorted.
Have a nice weekend Sue and everyone.

  8. I didn't comment yesterday, but your house is lovely. I'm sure someone soon will snap it up. On the 12 days of Christmas, I'm sure you've already thought of some of these ideas. Craft supplies for a new or old craft, packets of seeds to plant in your new garden, a magazine or book, edible/drinkable treats, toiletries (something you wouldn't normally buy), a bowl of planted bulbs. A lovely message from Kate - it made me smile. xx

    1. It certainly was a surprise to hear from Kate. Izzy must be a very elderly goat now.

As for my 12 days of Christmas treats - think I'm stuck on 7 which will be OK

  9. Love your house Sue, we're seriously thinking of moving and like you have already had a clear out, which to me is the hardest thing about moving. I don't think we'll get our house as clear of our personal belongings but hopefully we will as we have plenty of cupboard space.. today we have been to the bottle bank with 3 crates full and we don't even drink. Mike has a beer now and then so where did they all come from?? Good luck with your sale.

  10. You've had quite a momentous week if you think about it, lots accomplished and your house on the market all ready for a new adventure. How lovely to hear via the comments from the lady that bought your goats too, this is a real past and future post.

We have our house being relaunched on the market this coming week and my big news of the weekend is that we have just had our offer accepted on a very unique property that suits us both right down to a tee. You are only the second person I have told and the first in blogland ... so consider it an exclusive.

    1. It was an eventful week I guess but seemed a bit slow as I didn't go very far.
How good you have found somewhere to settle properly, we'll all look forward to hearing more

  11. Each week certainly does fly by quickly doesn't it? The photos of your home are lovely and well done by the photographer. I understand your gift problem with your BIL. I have a couple of men like that in my family that are very hard to buy gifts for. It was indeed a blessing to see Pat back on her blog this week! She is an amazing lady for sure! Have a good weekend Sue!

I shall just keep asking until he thinks of something!
