What have you been watching on TV now we have the dark evenings back again?.
I'm still watching my way through NCIS on the 5USA channel. It's up to series 14 now and Mark Harmon is still aging well. They've been showing 3 episodes each weekday evening from 6 until 9pm (or 7 - 10 on 5+1).
No NCIS on weekend evenings but I came across a new foreign language crime drama on All 4 called Artic Circle. Blimey it's cold up there in Lapland! The interesting thing is that when Russians, Finns and German characters are talking to each other they speak in English. And perhaps that explains why so many people in this country don't bother to learn another language! I watched all of series 1 but will have to wait for series 2 to appear on a free channel sometime.
Now I've found 'Murder in the First' on the 5 Catch Up channel which is a police drama from the US. Seems to have more than one series.
I'm watching Strictly Come Dancing as usual, although not really getting into it so much this year. Because of watching NCIS I'm missing quizzie Mondays but catch up with Only Connect and University Challenge on iplayer.
There was a good programme a few weeks ago - Ed Sheran at the BBC. Showing all the times he has appeared on TV - he looked so young at the beginning.- he WAS so young! and still is of course.
An then we have the World Cup Football. The Radio Times had a helpful wall chart to fill in with scores etc if I was so inclined - I'm not. Like many people I don't think Qatar should have been given the tournament - hopefully FIFA will have learned a lesson but it's all about the money, so probably not.
Do you watch Taskmaster? For umpteen years I assumed it was something that I wouldn't want to watch but I caught some of the last series and it is very funny - I think it depends on who's taking part but I should have watched earlier - I think Col would have enjoyed it too. Sara Millican has been very smart in this recent series.
There's a new police drama starting Friday - set in Aberdeen and I must make a note to watch series 20 of QI on iplayer sometime. It's on at 10pm - too late for me!
And as I mentioned the other week Countdown is now watchable again after the Ann Robinson interlude. They've been having temporary presenters after a couple of weeks of Colin Murray - who is good but probably busy with Football stuff on the radio at the moment - one of the temps was Rev Richard Coles and they could easily take him on as a full time presenter - he was excellent, someone had written to the Radio Times to say the same thing.

I'm pleased that OC and UC are back on Mondays again. And I like Richard Coles, too, he's a good chap. I've just got back into Pointless too (the whole family likes Alexander Armstrong, the littl'uns being fond of Hey Duggie, and the car radio is tuned to Classic FM)
ReplyDeleteSometimes I watch Pointless then go off it for a while. I don't like watching repeats of it
DeleteI'm enjoying Tokyo Vice
ReplyDeleteI'll make a note
DeleteWe watch a lot of tv too Sue - not a lot else Keith can do now, especially in the winter. Keith is like his mother and would watch rolling news (not BBC or ITV) if allowed to, and he is often watching Del Boy episodes for the 20th time and giggling still. Lovejoy too! When I am anchored to the sofa, wearing sleeping kittens of an afternoon, we always watch Escape to the Country (which I love - I am so nosy about other people's houses) and the Repair Shop. We've been following a brilliant series starring (and directed by) Emily Blunt called The English. An unexpected ending, but SO good. We like documentaries - anything historical or archaeological, nature programmes (but prefer British wildlife), and I like a good drama and a good murder/mystery. Horse racing on a Saturday of course. We are still holding our own in University Challenge but when it gets to the physics and chemistry type questions, we've had it!
ReplyDeleteI've noted The English to watch sometime
DeleteWell I haven't been watching TV for few days because the storm blew our aerial down and I haven't been up to fix it! I did watch Mammals last week - terrible rubbish I thought, and yet quite fun in its way.
ReplyDeleteNot often good weather for fixing aerials this week
DeleteWow, you've done well to get to series 14 of NCIS already, and yes Mark Harmon ages very well doesn't he ... he's very watchable.
ReplyDeleteI watch a lot of television; I should perhaps make a New Years resolution to actually read more instead, but I do enjoy it. I record everything I watch on the Freeview box that way I don't have to sit through adverts. I do enjoy a good box set on Netflix or Prime at the weekend too and manage to get through an entire series sometimes if it's just a six or eight-parter.
I read during the adverts or make a coffee or go to the loo!
DeleteI have been watching less TV actually. So often I find reruns that I have seen so often that I don't need to watch it again. I have been reading more and I can waste lots of time reading blogs and playing solitaire on my computer!
ReplyDeleteReading blogs is a morning thing for me and TV is an evening thing!
DeleteI've been reading more, doing puzzles. What we watch on television has everything to do with whether my grandson is here, or whether we are on our own. We've been watching an awful lot of Shaun the Sheep.
ReplyDeleteI heart Shaun the Sheep!!
DeleteOur grandchildren love Shaun the Sheep. (Kay in Nebraska, middle of USA)
DeleteI'm not watching much TV because most of the time I'm outside either working on the property myself or overseeing post and rail fence repairs, dead tree removal on my property line and delivery and stacking of split wood. Our weather is still good for all the outside projects. When the snow/rain/ice comes I will watch more TV.
ReplyDeleteOur weather has turned wet and nasty here, can't do much outside now
DeleteI have enjoyed Shetland, from the Ann Cleeves novels.
ReplyDeleteShetland and Vera have been excellent
DeleteI enjoyed the crime drama, Karen Pirie
ReplyDeleteHazel
Me too - hope there are more
DeleteThe number puzzle was fun and, to my surprise, I did it. Not usually very good with number puzzles.
ReplyDeleteI love Sara Millican, catch her on YouTube. I have no tv service but I do find DVDs at the library now and then, so I'm noting the series you mentioned, thank you.
I mostly watch football and basketball on television but did watch and really enjoyed Murder in the First. I also liked The Magpie Murders which was just shown here. My favorite recent television show was The Good Wife, although like many shows, when well-liked characters departed the show went down hill. Still, it would be worth trying if you can access it.
ReplyDeleteThe sun is shining and it is not freezing out so it may be time to do the last lawnmowing of the fall, although I am not in the mood.
I need to cut grass again but it's too wet
DeleteI don’t watch much TV and anyway here in New Zealand we are always so very far behind you in the UK. But I am sad that we are up to W as I’ve really enjoyed your alphabet series.
ReplyDeleteOops that above was me, Margaret from New Zealand. Drafted Blogger/Google:)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you've enjoyed the A-Z. Took a bit of working out for some letters
DeleteWe got rid of our normal television stations, so most of what we watch is on streaming services. I am currently watching a fictional show that was on here in the US a while ago called Cold Case. It's not the one that is a documentary, but was a fictional drama series about detectives solving cold cases anywhere from a few years previously to in the 1940s. The lead character was a woman. I really like it. Well worth a watch!
ReplyDeleteHad a look for it, and it's on Amazon Prime I think. I'll make a note
DeleteAs the evenings get longer television is becoming my friend once again. Heck even during the afternoon when I am working on various projects.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I just can't get used to having a quiet house so have radio on a lot and TV in the late afternoon and evenings
DeleteI'm a great fan of Richard Coles and very much enjoyed his first book, Murder Before Evensong. I loved the wry and witty little observations all through the book. xx
ReplyDeleteI'm on the library waiting list for it - look forward to reading
DeleteMark Harmon and now Tom Selleck in Blue Bloods. Makes an old lady smile!
Deletehaven't seen Blue bloods - Not a Tom Selleck fan - he's too old and too much facial hair!
DeleteI have been a fan of NCIS since it first aired in 2003 and have seen all the episodes multiple times. I get extremely frustrated though at how far we are lagging behind the American releases. I think we're a whole series, if not more behind. The USA is on series 20 I believe and has just been a nightmare avoiding spoilers.
ReplyDeletep.s. Rev. Richard Coles is a super presenter!
DeleteI'm 19 years behind you in being a fan!
DeleteI find it a little amusing that you are watching our American NCIS and here in the states so many love Acorn which features British programs. Personally I watch very little TV. Maybe I would if I lived alone but I leave that to the Farmer and I either read or watch videos on YouTube. Some of what was mentioned in your post or the comments sound very interesting but I'm not sure I could find them on-line.
ReplyDeleteStay well.
We love the Midsummer Murders series … and also. Father Brown! Can’t stand American stuff, and change the channel when it’s so dark we can’t actually SEE what’s going on! I suppose it makes for cheaper sets if it’s all dark!
ReplyDeleteSorry, it’s Virginia up there.
DeleteI have up cable TV here in the USA years ago and now use Roku to manage my streaming channels. One channel is Britbox and I enjoy all the British shows I can see. Decided last week to watch Vera from Season 1 since I hadn't had access before. I'm loving it. Love QI also.
