In a village not far from my own is a small gift and homewares shop with a café, and every year they go all Christmassy.
I popped in to have a look. It was crowded and the queue for the café was very long. I managed to get a few photos without people in the way although my phone camera doesn't really capture it very well.
So many pretty things...........
Every colour decoration you can think off - looking so pretty and cheerful......and quite expensive!
So my hint would be to look in charity shops first - a much cheaper way to change your colour scheme. I found a bag of about a dozen green baubles for 50p this year.

I had a quick gallop around the wonderful Christmas section at the Garden Centre last month. Such temptation, but I managed to resist it. Lovely to see all the things on offer though - we've come a long way from the tinsel, crepe streamers and paper chains of my youth!
ReplyDeleteColours for every colour scheme you can imagine
DeleteThe Hospice shop where I volunteer had a couple of large plastic storage boxes full of assorted glass baubles last Friday. People could fill a paper bag for 20p. The whole lot was sold out by the afternoon.
ReplyDeleteAn even better bargain
DeleteWhat a pretty shop, as the dark days come so the glitter and sparkle of Xmas shines out.
ReplyDeleteThe shop gets really busy at Christmas, I don't know how much they actually sell or maybe people like me just looking!
DeleteI love to look around and get ideas - window shopping is an inexpensive hobby. And a CS bauble brings joy to your home, and its purchase brings blessing to others.
ReplyDeleteI always check out charity shops first for Christmas Decorations
DeleteI always go for basic, rustic and home made where and when possible and leave the shiny, sparkley stuff for others.
ReplyDeleteI've got several home made bits among all my stuff gathered over 40+ years
DeleteThese little independents seem to stock much nicer decorations than the chain stores do, though as you say, you pay for it. My mum and dad moved house a few years before they both died and they sent all their old decorations to the charity shop, I could have cried, all those decorations I remember from my childhood, I'd have loved them for my own tree.
ReplyDeleteOh what a shame. Most of the decorations I remember from childhood were those paper concertina things - bells and balls and swags. I can't think what Mum had on the tree - long forgotten
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! xx
ReplyDeleteNice to look - but pricey to buy
DeleteI am charity shopper from way back and I have found some amazing things along the way. But I do try to shop in little shops for gifts and things I know what it means to them and the community. I work in a very small used bookstore. We are swamped with requests for donations from scout troops, sports kids, etc. Small businesses are the ones who support the community.

There are so few small independent shops now - sadly
DeleteOh Sue, I'm so afraid that if I stepped into that adorable shop I would leave with my arms laden with Christmas -- and then struggling as to how I would get it back home across the pond without breaking something. I'd probably have to mail home my clothes! It's charming!
ReplyDeleteMy photos don't really show the different colours and how pretty it all looks
DeleteLovely shop but I agree about the charity shop Christmas finds - I was in one this morning and there was a table laden with bagged up gold baubles and numerous other Christmas trinkets, all rock bottom prices.

Good bargains to be found in charity shops always - except not clothes much anymore
DeleteThat shop would be so tempting, Sue! I loved those cut-out scenes in the first photo. I shop at resale shops here too. One store I visit always has a lot of wonderful decorations for cheap. I don't need more decorations now but I do give them as gifts sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI had a penfriend in the States who used to send me a Christmas decoration each year - different to what we had here
DeleteYes, I a lot of my most treasured year-in-year-out decorations were originally from charity shops, as is most of the glassware that I put nightlights in at Christmas to create a twinkly atmosphere. I have never understood the folk that have a different colour scheme each year and buy all new ornaments to do it. ... but I guess they are hopefully the ones that donate some of it and give us a chance to buy the following year.
ReplyDeleteYep! thank goodness for those people
DeleteLovely decorations. I usually look for the bargains after the holidays when everything is marked down 75% off. Charity shoops are great for finding new treasures as well.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog for a while and thought it was time to comment and say I enjoy it :-)
Hello and thank you for joining in.
DeleteI think the small shops here put the leftovers away for next year!
Beautiful shop. I love shops like this and only buy if there is something unique and remarkable. This year I've managed to buy only one clay pot for my amaryllis that I carried over from last year.
ReplyDeleteThere is an even bigger Christmas Barn near where we used to live, it was always packed out with beautiful things. I might go and look if I have time
DeleteThe beautiful shop will not continue in business if everyone looks and no one buys. Surely a person--maybe not you!---could augment charity decor w one or two supportive purchases here? Makes me so sad....
ReplyDeleteYou don't need to be sad about this shop - believe me, it does VERY well all year!
DeleteIt's really atmospheric
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely store. So many baubles to look at.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
All that pretty sparkly stuff is what makes Christmas so magical. It just lifts the spirits and makes the day feel better :)
