Were The 2022 Car-boot Bargains Used?

Someone once questioned if my home was full to overflowing with stuff I find at Car Boot Sales. The answer is No....... things do get used in one way or another, I don't often find that something I've bought is wasted.

Here's a few photos as a reminder of what I found  last year.

The card was used, digger is in the car box, card making book on the craft shelf

The Journal will be used as a raffle prize, the book list book went for a Christmas present. One of the little trinket pots was stitched and became a little gift, the other is still here waiting. The starting school book will be given in a while.

The vehicles are in the car box, the jars have been used and the little Lego packs went home with oldest Grandson in the summer

The books have been added to the bookshelves and will then go to a charity shop, cards are in the card box and I'm working my way through the Sudoku book. Dinosaur Pairs are on the toy shelf

Several of these cards have been used already, the rest will be.

Christmas paper was used this year, The cushion making sewing kit became a raffle prize, bathroom cleaning sponges have been used. The quoits game gets used in the summer, the mallet is in the garage, Christmas badges will be for next year now as I forgot them this year. 50p was wasted on the tin of marmalade which was well out of date and unfortunately definitely unusable.

The lock and lock storage box is in use as is the dustpan outside in the shed. The plastic bags are being used and the pot watering tray is outside in use.

The peat pots will all be used for sweetcorn this year and next year, Christmas paper is still to be used, the book was passed on to my cousin, the petrol can is in the garage ready for the next fuel shortage.

Christmas Crackers were used on Boxing day, and the window decoration was stuck in a front window all December. Greaseproof paper is in the cupboard, the bangles went off with eldest granddaughter. Middle Grandson was not impressed with the jigsaws so I'll pass them onto youngest grandson and the Easter craft book will get used this year

The wasp trap was used through the summer, the head band decorating set is in the cupboard for a birthday present this year, the chalks get used whenever the weather is good and grandchildren are here. Cards are either already used or waiting and the book about Stowmarket road names has been read and enjoyed.

Still a while to wait for 2023 car boot season to start but I'll be there - I enjoy the search

    1. I avoid all the rubbish and tat - there's plenty of that at a boot sale!

  2. Wow - you really do know where all the bargains go! I can't say I'm half as organised. I miss car boot sales. I like when everything is in the same place. Garage sales are more popular over here and sometimes you have a drive a while to get from one to another unless there is a neighbourhood sale. I am hoping to get to some this year!

  3. I was at a thrift store and found a wasp bottle. It was only from blog reading that I even knew what it was! I brought it home. I have just the place to hang it next summer! I am in a divesting stage, I guess. I've not been interested in shopping, other than to pick up clothes for the grands.

  4. Well done! I think the key thing is "having a purpose in mind when you buy it". I'm looking forward to the Village Yard Sales starting up again after Easter.

  5. Very well done on having a use in mind when you buy things at boot sales-my favourite thing as a child would have been the chalks! My mother had a toy box in the corner of her wardrobe for her two later grandchildren where the contents came from charity shops. She never told my sister-in-law that they weren’t new as she was really snobby about everything being pristine and new! Mum gave everything a good wipe down with Dettol and the children loved Gran’s box. Catriona

  6. Brilliant. Does the wasp trap work well? Presumably you have to put something sweet in it?

    1. I put in jam and water and it caught several but there weren't many wasps around last year at all - thank goodness

  7. Brilliant, because you knew what you wanted and knew what you would use things for when you bought them, it means that you made sensible purchases and saved a huge amount in the process, and that is definitely the right way to shop at car boot sales or charity shops. Going out with no idea and just a pocket of cash means that you would be more likely to buy things just because they are cheap, and that is the wasteful way to bargain hunt. You are definintely doing it the right way.

  9. Yes, your blog photos help you keep track of what you have bought! You are so organized, Sue. I went to a resale shop last week and got some cotton yarn so I can make some washcloths. I need some projects to keep me busy during winter. I got $15 worth of yarn for $2.50 so I was happy with that.

  10. You find great buys and everything is put to a good use. Reuse and re-purpose is beneficial for all. Over the weekend, on my way to a grocery store, I saw a sign promoting an estate sale. I went in and everything was priced very high. Nobody was purchasing.

    1. Silly to have things priced too high to sell. Perhaps they will have to do it all over again but cheaper!

  11. Hunting through a good car boot sale can be a lot of fun too. If I'm in the right mood and it's not too hot or too cold! x
