Another Quiet Week in Suffolk

A week of sunshine - I'm sure it was the most sun seen since last summer. Even had the patio door open for a couple of hours on two afternoons and I got the grass cut. Last year I managed to keep it short so as not to need BiL back to cut it with his motor mower. Hope to do the same this year again after he first cut it for me two weeks ago.
The sunshine fired up the 'growing food' bit of my brain! and I brought in the windowsill electric propagator to make sure it's still working, and it was, so I filled up 5 small seed trays and popped them in to warm the compost ready for seed sowing today or tomorrow.

During the week, after falling asleep with the Radio tuned to Radio 4 which switches to the BBC World Service after 1am, it was a  horrible shock to wake in the night to that man giving his State of the Union speech. Turned off radio PDQ.
Couldn't understand one blogger saying the Oval Office spat last week was funny and another saying they all went off to dinner together afterwards. Really? I'm trying to avoid being worried about everything but it's hard when what the loudest voices say is all bad news.

Back to Suffolk and better news............. a tin of pre-prepared lemons for marmalade  getting used this week. I didn't realise it was way past it's BBE date (Sept 2023) but it was fine, made 6 jars. With the Orange/Whiskey marmalade and the marrow/apricot jam both made last autumn I've got plenty to last me for a year at least.

I went to both exercise groups again, we ran through our usual sequence at our Keep Moving Group but the other group, for a one-off session, had a lady leading exercises who works at hospices, they were all sitting down exercise  again. She also talked throughout the exercises about 'bodily functions in older age' - she said she loves to talk to her older clients about "wees and poos"- it was all very odd - although I do know lots of elderly people end up in hospital due to urine infections - so perhaps she has a point. Hopefully next week will be more energetic.

The weather is good for car-boot sales both Saturday and Sunday and there is European Indoor Athletics Championships  to watch on TV this weekend as well as the Six Nations Rugby penultimate weekend. That's me sorted!

Here's one of the beautiful spring illustrations from the book I borrowed "A Year Unfolding; A Printmakers View" by Angela Harding

Have a lovely weekend whatever you are doing and I'll be back Monday, although at the moment I have nothing to write about.

Don't Panic Susan!

  1. You appear to have plenty to write about but if not I'm sure you'll find something.

  2. For many older folk, it appears they are afraid to drink too much in case their poor mobility means they can't get to the loo in time. Then they get dehydrated and get UTIs, and often end up having a brief hospital stay. During which they become less mobile, and it becomes a vicious circle. Exercise groups like yours are good things!

  3. The one off exercise session sounded a bit weird. I don't really like being reminded that I'm getting older....I KNOW it!...and try to eat and drink healthily anyway. Good job it was a one off!

Your header photo is beautiful Sue. I love it when you bring out the plate of the month and those flowers in a jug....wow :)

    1. By the time the plates have been packed away for a year I've forgotten what they look like so it's nice to see them again

  5. Your marmalade looks delicious! You must be enjoying "A Year Unfolding; A Printmakers View". I do love the Spring illustration.
After being away from blogging for over a year I'm trying to get caught up as I'm able. I've been ill, but I've also missed all the wonderful bloggers we have here. It is good to see you again. I hope you enjoy your weekend.

  9. Oh gosh, waking up to that idiots voice is the stuff that nightmares are made of!! A Year Unfolding is a lovely book isn't it, I should have another read through my copy. :-)

I hope you have a lovely weekend, the forecast is for it to be a bit warmer, so a few seeds may be sown in pots for my windowsill. Enjoy the car boot sales if you manage to get there. xx

    1. I've taken lots of photos of the lovely Angela Harding Illustrations and will use them on here when I'm short of ideas - I think everyone will like seeing them.
Bit more breeze here today, had the door open but soon closed it again - it was more March than May today

  11. I hope that you have a nice weekend. I meant to tell you, your pitcher of tulips? I have that same display upstairs. My daughter sent it to me for my birthday one year. The tulips are amazingly lifelike.

  12. Actually, the dinner after the Oval Office debacle was cancelled and the President didn't even escort Z. out. I am SO ashamed for my country. I implore the world not to paint all Americans with the same brush.

  13. I have spent today walking along Brecon canal (2 miles each way) in the sunshine, and gardening - weeding the cobbles/yard and weeding/replanting planters with summer bulbs. Have car boot envy . . .

  19. We have spring for this week coming...for six of seven days, it will be in the 60s. I cannot tell you how much I am looking forward to it.

Zelenskyy did not stay for dinner afterwards. He was asked to leave, I'm ashamed to say. His departure was well documented, and there was no act. But, of course, what are facts, if they are getting in the way of your opinion? SMH.

    1. Late edit: Not your opinion. Sorry if that came off an insult to you. It was not meant to be.

  20. I refused to watch the speech you unfortunately woke up to! The Zelensky meeting was horrible, as was everything that followed. Keep your mind on spring, pretty pictures from books, and airing out the winter cobwebs. That's stuff that is good for your heart.

  21. I am so sorry that you had such a horrible waking. I live in Michigan and am horrified by what is happening in a world that I no longer recognize. Almost no one that I personally know is happy with the election results. I still find it hard to believe that he actually won (fairly sure he had some help with that). I find comfort in hearing people speak up both here and from other countries. My friends and I are doing all we can every day to make change - protests, running for local offices, calling our representatives daily, donating any extra money to help others whose safety nets are being ripped away and to support opposition candidates. I am afraid. Thank you for being a voice of reason and comfort.
