The March Library Book Photo

First of all big Thank you for all the comments on yesterdays post about the future of Suffolk Libraries. Have to hope that things will carry on much the same for a while at least. Suffolk County Council are well known for out-sourcing all their services so it's odd that they want to take back control of libraries. Although if they were to take back the Highways department we might get more potholes repaired!

These are what I collected this month, all books I'd reserved.

Lots of crime fiction as usual, should I be worried that four titles begin with 'Murder' ?  Ang at Tracing Rainbows suggested ' Less' , the book by the Great British Sewing Bee judge - Patrick Grant. Then I borrowed a book to read  about lowering blood pressure naturally - but after a quick look I see it has some strange food ideas, don't think it would suit me. Two of the crime are short stories but the best of the books there will be the one by Rory Clements - he always writes well. The book 'Fatal Isles' sounds odd - not sure where the idea for borrowing it came from. I've re-borrowed the book of Angela Harding's prints to take some photos of her lovely illustrations to use on the blog .

Last month I had these below. I didn't get on very well, only reading four out of the nine. I started and gave up on all the others.

Details of the books I read are on the Books Read 2025 Page.

  1. I used to think I HAD to finish every book I started. I think it was a RULE at my convent primary school that got stuck in my head. Now I enjoy the freedom to just put down a book that I'm not getting on with - another sign of growing up at last? (I'm 68!)

    1. I often stop reading after just a few pages if the writing is bad or the story a bit odd or many other reasons! Too many books - so little time!

  2. Less by Patrick Grant was an enjoyable and thought provoking read for me-I also read it on Ang’s recommendation . Catriona

    1. I hope it's a good read especially as I don't seem to read many Non Fiction books nowadays and should perhaps read more

  4. I enjoyed Less by Patrick Grant very much and it has given me so much food for thought, I am trying harder to maintain and conserve the good quality things I already own.

    1. Lots of my everyday at home clothes are from charity shops anyways and that makes it hard for me to pay some of the huge prices charged at 'better' shops - even though I know that is probably the proper price to avoid exploitation of workers

  5. Beetroot juice helps to lower blood pressure, I was told that by a nurse at our surgery. I drank beetroot juice for a while (longlife cartons by the fruit juices in the supermarket), but eventually couldn't stomach the taste any longer - sweetish but very earthy tasting.

    1. I'm sure I tried that once - and like you say - a bit too earthy, although I love fresh cooked and unpickled beetroot.

  9. I seem to be leaning into reading more crime as well. Heck I have even started watching more of those types of programs come the evenings as well.

    God bless.

  10. It seems you have a good collection of books.
It would be a shame if your library services change drastically. It seems to work really well now.

I have the Angela Harding book. It is beautiful.

  12. I watch more crime on television than I should. It's a nice distraction from the political stuff.

  13. I've been away from home for a couple weeks and my province's interlibrary loan system has continued to deliver stacks of books I've ordered, which means I'll get home to ... Christmas!

There's not much chance I'll get through them all before they have to be returned, or that they'll all hold my interest enough to be read beyond the first chapter, but still they are something to look forward to.

Thank goodness for healthy eyes and time to read.
