That Was March

31 days that seem to have whizzed by and everyone says the same and thank goodness the weather has been 100% better than this time last year and a bit of warmth too.

YD took me and EGD out for a meal yesterday for Mothers Day -what a treat. The hotel had a special Mothers Day dessert - trio of mini things - can't remember what they were called but super delicious. They were giving all Mums a little box of chocolates - another treat. It's small little extras like this that make a person feel happy to go back for another visit.

Library day this week - good news - as I'm reading from my shelves and worrying that I'll run out of books! which is totally ridiculous of course.

March wasn't too 'spendy', with the car service and MOT being the big expense at just under £300, which as Tom the boss said "isn't too bad for a whole year of use". With a diesel car it's oil and filters that need doing every year as well as checking everything else. What a fortune we saved over our 38 years of marriage with Col able to do anything that needed doing before an MOT.

  2. I got taken out to lunch too, but was rather underwhelmed CRUNCHY broccoli and carrots! Sorry, I come from the school which deems vegetables with a roast should be COOKED! Puddings (v. ordinary choice) were£7 a hit, so I suggested to Gabs we gave them a miss.

    1. I agree about broc and carrots - they have to be just right - a few minutes too long and they'll be too soggy but too hard is all wrong.

We don't usually do dessert either but the trio just had to be tried!

  4. What a great treat for Mother's Day, cute little box of chocolates. Grandaughters no 2 took me out and treated me to brunch which included a free glass of fizz. The sun is out here in Somerset too, pergola painting is planned.

  6. All cars need the oil and filters replaced yearly or as per the manufacturers schedule if more frequently, if you do a higher mileage for example. Not just diesel cars.

    1. Nameless person - Thank you for your expert knowledge!
We only ever had diesel cars so I have no idea about petrol.

  8. Glad you enjoyed your day, it's those attention to details that make a difference. Never been a fan of "a trio of" anything, but would be happy with three mini puds! As long as they weren't deconstructed!

    1. There was a mini sponge thing with icing and a round thing a cross between choux pastry and doughnut with a rhubarb puree filling and a shot glass of lemon posset. All looking very pretty and tasting delicious

  10. Your YD is a lovely and thoughtful person. Your celebration with YD and EGD sharing a meal makes a very special Mothers day. It is always nice to be appreciated and loved. The box of chocolates is a very nice touch and leaves a great feeling about the restaurant.
Your MOT seems similar to our Safety Inspection. I knew I might need 4 new tires so ahead of the inspection I bought tires. The inspection is not expensive, unless you do not pass and then all repairs must be made to pass. My tires were pricey, and the tire company said the old tires would have passed this year, but probably not next year.
My inspection was fine, and no problems were found. Four tires cost $1k...I've spent that much for tires!

    1. Yes sounds the same - for safety and road-worthy-ness all cars over 3 years old must have a test each year. I get the car completely serviced and then they take it for the test.

  12. End of March here with more rain. I thought it would be warmer on Sunday. It started raining after we left Country Cottage restaurant after church. We like the meals they make. My husband does his own oil change for his car. I need mine done in April at the Ford dealership close to where we live. Enjoy your spring.

It's almost impossible to maintain modern cars 'at home' in the way they used to be.
