Things I'm not used to.................

..................... getting up at 5am. and driving an hour and a bit in the dark and then another hour and a bit in the half-dark!

Colin had the sinus operation on Monday and had to be at Addenbrookes Hospital at 7.15am. Getting up at 5 is a bit of a shock to the system.........must be getting old.
We didn't know if he would have to stay in overnight so decided I'd drop him off at the door and go home again. Our DIL volunteered to pick him up if he was allowed out as she works about 35 minutes away from the hospital.
I came home through intermittent hail/rain storms that needed the windscreen wipers on extra fast speed. It was still very gloomy when I got home just after 8.15, we'd had hardly any rain here but then things brightened up and  sun came out and the wind got up. I did get the washing dry - but had to keep pegging bits back on the line.

Then we had the weird weather phenomenon that others have captured on their cameras, strange purple/red sky and the sun disappearing behind clouds of Saharan dust. I stood outside for a few minutes and wondered what our  ancestors would have thought......... no TV telling them about Storm Ophelia and sand dust being carried into the upper atmosphere!

Anyway, Col was allowed home and our lovely DIL fetched him back to their house when she finished work - and I went and collected him from there. The sun by that time was still looking a bit strange and huge, low and bright - horrible driving again.

Eventually home by 7pm, hopefully the sinus operation will stop the source of infection that's been a recurring problem all through his chemo treatment. Although he might have gone through it for nothing because the reason Ipswich hospital wouldn't do it was because they weren't sure it would be of any use! Ho Hum.

We both spent yesterday recovering  - him from the anesthetic and me from the early start and too much driving!

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  2. Fingers crossed all goes well for Colin. I was resting and watching the clouds roll by fast and thought it was the weirdest sky I had ever seen.

  5. One of the drawbacks of living in the country, like you, I am miles away from an ED, and that is closing, so it will be the next county soon. Hope Col makes a good recovery and you catch up on your sleep.

  6. Let's hope this works. All we want is to be well isn't it?
Getting up at that hour would have killed me too. We always get appointment with dentist etc later in the day as we are not early risers any more. lol

  9. Glad Col's operation went well. Hope it does help stop those infections.

From the photos I saw that was a weird sight. I'd be thinking like you! I reckon the ancestors might have thought the world was coming to an end or something terrible was coming. Glad it was just the storm!

  10. Here in Wales we just had an odd yellow light, and didn't see the sun as it was overcast in the morning. I agree with you - our ancestors would have been most perturbed! In the Neolithic they could predict eclipses and what have you from the stars, but this was a bit unpredictable!

I'm glad to hear that Col's sinus operation has been done and I hope it works. I imagine you were both pleased to get indoors and just sit down quietly that evening.

  12. We saw it on U.S. news. Eerie! One more step forward for Col... hoping (praying) he heals up quickly, and that his next transplant goes without any infections or set backs.

  14. I go to London for treatment and ops, so we stay over night near the hospital and when I am in for a stay, DH stays in the hotel. Fortunately this Friday my app. is 1:00pm so we don't have to leave too early. Our rain arrived this afternoon, much needed for the garden..hope all goes well for Col.

  15. The driving sounds exhausting. No wonder you need a recovery day.

  17. Prayers that Col's surgery will solve the infection problem. I saw pictures of the storm, weird skies with the Saharan Dust and the smoke from the Southern European fires.

  18. Good that he could come home so you could relax and recover together. I am sure it will have done some good.

  19. Ouch, its not much fun driving in the dark. Add in nasty weather and my stress level would be sky high.

Hope the sinus operation gives Col some needed relief from the infections.

    God bless.

  20. I hope the operation is a success, and it sounds like you both need a couple of days rest and recuperation after the op and the driving.

The sun was weird wasn't it and the wind was pretty spectacular on our hillside, I spent the next day finding things and returning them to their rightful places and re-erecting the Ethel the sheep's little wooden shelter. But it was nothing compared to the damage in parts of Ireland.

  21. what a day. Hope the op was a success. Lovely photo of the sun. Though it was quite eerie, I thought both sun and sky looked gorgeous.

  22. Early rise isn't fun nor driving in the dark! Glad you made it ok and Col is recovering at home. Interesting how a storm can make the sky look different. I'll have to check on that storm as I'd not heard about it. We are having wind and rain today and next couple days. Take care and be blessed!
