Start of a New Week

It was lovely to have Eldest Daughter and Eldest Grandson staying for a few days but goodness me that 4 year old is exhausting! He never stops talking and hopping and jumping  about  from the moment he wakes until bedtime. The weather wasn't good but they still managed to get out and about with his local cousins and aunties and finally Saturday was sunny and warm for a trip to the beach at Felixstowe.

Last Tuesday I had my first charity shop visit for months and found two Action Men for Jacob's visit. I had no idea if boys still like Action Men and couldn't remember at what age - but it's something a bit different................. Soon found out 4 year olds who are mad on cars and dinosaurs aren't interested in muscly toy men wearing camouflage gear! Oh well perhaps when he's older.

It was a good thing they didn't stay over Saturday night, he would have been woken with a start as I'd just about nodded off when there was an explosion of fireworks somewhere very close - although not in our lane. Looked at the clock -a few minutes after 11pm - a tad inconsiderate I thought, not something that's a common occurrence around here thank goodness, the fireworks didn't last long and I was soon asleep again.

I've returned all my library books through the returns letter box at the nearest library building to get them back into the circulation system.  Suffolk libraries are sort-of open with an odd system of ring, say what type of books you'd like and staff will pick a selection for you and ring you to say when you can collect them - all seems a bit of a faff - and how many people are going to want someone else to pick their books for them? Hopefully when the mobile library comes later this month he'll have the books that have been requested and waiting for me since March.

Good news about swimming pools re-opening later this month, I'm looking forward to finding out how it will work at the small pool where I go  - on line booking, lane swimming and limited numbers for sure.

A very delicious addition to the food produced at home list last week - The first Green Beans - so good.

Quite a lot to do this week as I want to get organised to do a week of eating local food again, also have grass to cut, much weeding in the veg garden and strawberry runners need pegging into pots to make new plants and probably many other jobs that I can't remember at the moment..

Back Tomorrow

  1. Our libraries in Staffordshire remain closed. I tend to order my books as our library is tiny and the stock rarely gets changed but I still have a good browse when I pick up my order. I think the new proposed system will be very odd. Also a visit to the library has always been a social thing. My elderly mother will find this aspect particularly difficult. Still, needs must, strange times.

  2. Those beans look good. We are definitely missing homegrown in the beans department. The markets here are great but the taste in green beans is way more mature than we like them, and the pods have got a bit tough by then

  3. Lovely looking beans and I bet they taste even better than they look.
I'm waiting to see how my gym sorts out the swimming issue. I think the same - appointments and lane swimming only, all of which will suit me fine.
hopefully they will also say single file only which will stop all that width hogging by the Gossip Girls!

  4. Beauty of being a grandparent, you can hand them back! Can’t imagine how new parents in their 50’s manage.

  5. The Works are selling box of 10 self inking dinosaur stamps for £2. Ideal for 4 Yr olds. I got some on Saturday for Rosie. Amused by DCs comment above - Formula 1 boss bernie Eccleston about to become a dad again at 89. IMHO that's a bit irresponsible. Littl'uns are a great drain on one's energy. Have a good week. It will seem quiet now the family have gone xx

    1. Be fruitful and multiply. Is what you said what God would say to the Ecclestons? The first child for a woman who longed for a child now has happiness. Who are you to judge that this is irresponsible? Teacher and preacher you describe yourself. I hope that you will preach happiness and joy in the fruits of the womb.

    3. I am in my fifties and work full time in a demanding NHS job and mind/collect our 4 year old grandson from school when shifts and current social distancing allow. We also take him on holiday and have him to stay but little ones are very tiring. I could probably be a mum but would not be able to work as well, unlike when my own two were growing up when I did both and all the shopping and housework as well as taking them to clubs, dance classes, matches etc...

    4. I don't know what dissing means but it is not for us to judge others on whether they should have children or not, and especially from a lady of the church.

  6. You certainly had a nice few days with your daughter and GS and I hope you get some interesting books.
I had my family yesterday my D. did a lovely picnic for us all. My present was a makeover on the pond it is lovely and we had tadpoles etc in the pond and they brought pond plants which make it lovely and even big stones so the birds can drink. I am a very lucky lady.
    Enjoy your day everyone.

  7. I heard a good Covid joke the other day. Apparently our local swimming pool is going to reopen but because of social distancing there will only be water in lanes 1, 3 and 5.

  9. The library in Norwich is now open and I will be able to return my books and browse for a short while. I am glad you had a lovely time with your daughter and Jacob. I have had a coffee in Morrisons so soon we can meet up again. It was fine and I did not even notice the perspex between each set of tables, in fact it was rather cosy.

  10. Our libraries are just opening, but over the weekend I did drop off a few books we had finished to a little library, which was already well stocked. I use our library more to borrow audiobooks than actual books, but thankful for it all the same. Have a good week.

  11. Rather jealous of your beans...our runner beans are looking rather sorry for themselves at the moment possibly due to the low night temperatures we have been getting and also strong winds.x

  14. How nice to get in such a lovely visit. I remember once being out with my 4 year old niece and her 8 year old brother. She talked non-stop and finally, my poor nephew (who adored his little sister) sighed and said - "Brittni! Don't you ever take a breath"! We were on the bus at the time and I heard a few chuckles from other passengers.

Here the libraries are working on curb side pickup - we put a hold on the books we want via the computer. When they are ready we get an email to book a pickup time. I usually book at least a week ahead as that way there is time for any other holds to show up (whatever is in under my card number goes into that one delivery date). I show up at the appointed time, show the security guard standing outside my card - he calls in the last 4 numbers to the librarian sitting at a table just inside the main doors (plexiglass barrier in front of her) - she picks up a brown paper bag with my books and places it on the table - then I step forward, pick up the bag and leave! It is all a bit bizarre!
Outdoor pools have opened - you line up with social distancing in place - on the hour they let in a set number of people (no exceptions) and you get 45 minutes. You leave and they go around cleaning the handrails, etc. No change rooms are open but one or two bathrooms are available - and also cleaned in between groups. Oh - and you have to provide contact info when you first come in. Good luck!

  15. I know what you mean about the energy of grandchildren! My soon-to-be three year old grandson runs rings round me, but what a delight to see him after months of lockdown.
We are also eating the first of our climbing French beans, Cobra and Blue Lake - delicious!

  18. This website is best for those newcomers who have queries for any information regarding the Effluent Treatment Plant. One can avail this plant from here at a very reasonable rate.
