December 11th

After my post about lost bloggers on Friday there was a lovely catch up message  from Trish who was in Norfolk and now down South. Perfect timing. And I think I got confused in a reply - getting Dove Grey Reader mixed up with Lovely Grey - two different people I'm now thinking.

Still very cold here, with freezing fog rather than snow. I braved going for a swim at the pool on Saturday - it was worth the effort as there was only me and one other lady in the Slow Swim half of the pool.

Found this photo on the old blog - Photos in Advent 2015.

That's how many Christmas books I had back then

and now..............

Several have gone in the intervening years and 3 moves, but I do seem to have added a few new ones .....no surprise there then!

Back Tomorrow

  1. Lovely stacks of Christmas books past and present. I've got a relatively dated Sainsbury's Josceline Dimbleby Christmas book - I've never used any of the recipes but love browsing through it anyway.

    1. JD did some great cookbooks for Sainsbury's back in the 80s. I had one called Marvellous Mince (ideal for families on a tight budget) The recipe I did regularly was called "Piglet Pie" - my kids loved it.

    2. I remember Marvellous Mince - but didn't come across it until much later. I've still got a couple of the Sainsburys books - never use them!

  2. Will you read them all between now and Xmas? It is a joined up festival part pagan and part Christian. My favourite carol is 'The Boar's Head' and of course the 3.0.clock service of carols, a delight of old carols sung every year.

    1. They are Looking at Books more than reading straight through I think.
I remember writing about The Boars Head carol last year

  3. I had a few Christmas cookery books - not sure if I have any more, since moving. Ditto Christmas customs. May still have a couple of those lurking somewhere. I used to get so excited about Christmas.

  7. You've got a very nice collection of Christmas books. Swimming is so invigorating and excellent for good health. Having the lane almost to yourself is a real bonus.

    1. It was lovely to have a swim without other people to wait for or swim around

  8. I think my only Christmas book is a lovely edition of A Child's Christmas in Wales, Dylan Thomas, with wonderful woodblock illustrations. Also additional pencil drawings by my very young son!

  9. I used to have a couple of them, but now I only own the Wartime Christmas. We've both really downsized our book collections over the past couple of years haven't we. I got another Ziffit payment of just over £22 last week, which doesn't even cover the cost of the new books I bought from Amazon, but at least I've got space for them on the bookshelf.

  10. Can I pop over and borrow the Medieval Chrsitmas?

  11. Your collection has over the years inspired me to look for thrifted Christmas books. I get them out each year and leaf thru them as you mention you do.

I can't imagine voluntarily swimming on such cold days [tho I swam early mornings all thru high school, in a frigid pool, snow howling against the glass walls of the fieldhouse]---is your pool heated?

  12. Still a nice selection of books for Christmas. How lovely that Trish got in touch with you.

    God bless.
