December 23rd

Thank goodness that nasty cold I had went far enough away so that I could get to the exercise group on Tuesday. Although it still hasn't completely gone - hanging around far too long in my opinion. No swimming this week - it's school holidays so the only lane swimming sessions are early morning or evenings.

Postmen have packed up early for Christmas by going on strike today and tomorrow.  I've had some Christmas cards through and the bill for the boiler service last month finally got here. My post usually arrives about 1pm but because of missing some days it's just meant they have needed to work much later and it was almost dark when he popped cards through the door yesterday. Lots of Robins on cards this year.

I was pleased to find I could watch The Battle of the Brits tennis on TV, this was a two day tournament between England and Scotland organised by Jamie Murray. It was on the BBC iplayer and there were some good matches. I've also been watching the Finals of  this series of Countdown, one young fella has broken all records with his high scores and University Challenge Christmas Alumni quiz - it's quite strange sometimes to find these brilliant brainy people - all specialists in their fields - don't know some everyday basics.

And finally as requested here are some more photos of the pages from the book.....

  4. I also enjoyed the Battle of the Brits. Coughs and colds seem to be the order of the day. Everyone I know has been suffering from some virus or other.

    1. I seem to remember back when my children were at school that they would always finish school before Christmas with colds.

  5. So glad you are on the mend. Yes, I thought that some of the UC Alumni were disappointingly lacking. eg "Which US president said the in 1947?" and they answered "JFK". Jeremy P seemed appalled at some of their wild guesses too!

  6. I have noticed that most of the Christmas cards we have received this year have robins on them too.
Hope you are now fully recovered after that cold.
    Happy Christmas!

    1. Either there are lots of cards stuck in the system or all my relatives are not bothering this year - as I've definitely got a card shortage

  7. Love those wartime pics. There are so many nasty viruses at the moment, lots of folk having to change their Christmas plans at the last minute including my sister who was hoping to join us but has the flu! Glad you are feeling better.

  9. The wartime photos are excellent; showing very nostalgic hard times. There is a lot of virus/flu/colds everywhere. Our pharmacies are running out of the common remedies. I'm glad to hear you are feeling a bit better. Today, it's raining buckets with high winds. No snow yet.

  10. I'm glad that you're starting to feel a bit better. I've often thought it strange that highly educated people sometimes really don't know some 'simple' everyday basic type things. I'm not even slightly academic but I can usually outsmart my younger son and Alan on quizzes with my good all-round general knowledge. I have picked up most of my know-how through life itself not at school.

    1. I'm sure these highly qualified people know lots about their own subject - but how did they miss so much general knowledge!
