Car Boot Sale Chaos...........

and  a car boot sale without chaos.

Saturday morning, I got Col sorted with a high calorie milk shake, washed up and headed out early.

Thankfully he is still able to get himself dressed and come downstairs. I'll be nice and early at the car boot sale...........I thought. Arriving at 10 to 8 there was already a sign out saying 'No More Pitches Available' and the car park was chock-a-block. I squeezed into parking space and started to look round but the organisers had put the rows of sellers so close together and with so many people trying to look it was difficult to see anything properly. I didn't find much and decided to abandon the sale about half way round......and then the fun of trying to get out of the car park! Ha! Dozens of cars trying to get out while even more were trying to get in and find a parking space. About half an hour later I was finally out, gave up plans of visiting Needham Market church and went to Tesco via the main road rather than through the town. Tesco was also heaving.

I though how funny it was that my parting words on Saturdays post were " avoid the traffic jams!"

All I found amongst the mountains of STUFF on Saturday........... book 50p, glove puppets of the "This little piggy" rhyme 50p, unopened cling film 50p and packet of Nasturtiums for next year 20p.
I also got 2 cucumber plants to replace mine that collapsed, both F1  plants, one 80p and one was £1.

The Sunday car boot is 3 miles nearer, not so busy and much better access...... so no traffic jams!
I went early again and found these
A 3 sided frame for climbing plants was £3, 2 packets of spring onion seeds 50p, yet another book for grandchildren 50p and a colourful shoulder-bag for £1.50.
Then home again by 8.30am for a much needed coffee.

I spent the rest of Saturday and Sunday alternating between bits of housework, sitting outside in the sun and watching the semi-finals of the World Snooker Championship on TV. Because of Col being poorly we've seen more of it than we usually do (it's on 3 times a day for 17 days, which must be hell for anyone who doesn't like it but is forced to watch!) and there have been some good matches.

We didn't get to the Middy at War event yesterday, didn't even hear the little steam train chuffing, what breeze there was came from the other way. We did see the Hurricane do a flypast, three loops and he'd gone back to Lincolnshire! Wonder how much they charge for a minutes flypast?

I'm feeling ancient today...........eldest daughter is 38......how did that happen? That's already a year older than I was when we moved to the smallholding........ which seems like only yesterday.
Happy Birthday Helen!

Back Tomorrow
Sue
PS Thanks for comments on Saturday's post

  1. A shame the first sale was so badly organised because it sounds as if there would have been plenty to see if you could have got to it.
Have a nice, gentle day today.
    Love to you both.

  2. Happy Birthday to your daughter Helen! I hope she has a good one. I understand your feelings about your kids getting older. My two sons are in their 40s now and that makes me feel old! It sounds like everyone decided to go to the Saturday car boot sale. A crowd like that makes it difficult to really look very well but I'm glad you found some nice items. The little ones will love the glove puppet. What a difference the Sunday sale was for you - home by 8:30! Wow!

I hope you and Col have a good week and your trips out go smoothly.

  3. Housework over the bank holiday weekend, what are you like lassie? I’m with Joy have a relaxing day. Reading your blog reminds me of me, when Simon was so ill, you develop super human powers and along the way forget to give yourself some slack. Love and positive thoughts for Col.

  4. I laughed when I read your comment about it being hell for people who don't like to watch the snooker! I have it.My ex husband would sit and watch it, drove me crazy. Our only TV was a small black and white TV so even more dreary! Luckily, he is a long ago ex. Enjoy sunshine.

    1. I think I watered mine the evening before we had really cold night and even the fleece covering wasn't enough to protect. Very Annoying

  7. At least you got some bargains. Snooker ~ I can't believe we never used to miss a game, but now it seems to take over, as do so many sporting events.

  10. Great books as usual and the shoulder bag looks nice. We nearly made a mistake ysterday and went to our favourite garden centre-car boot sale and blossom weekend. Stayed at home and enjoyed a coffee in the garden instead.

  11. I have one of the three sided plant frame. I use it either as it's meant to be used or flat and tied into place with my cucumbers growing up each side. The equal weight on either side, it being pushed well into the soil plus a bit of string keeps it nice and upright. It's one of my most used gardening 'things'.

We're pretty much keeping ourselves at home until the hoards of visitors leave this gloriously sunny part of Wales, and getting lots done into the bargain.

We have lots in common my eldest son is 37 now, how the bloody hell did that happen!! His step daughter is about to make us great grand-parents for the first time at the end of the month!!

Well done on being a Great Grandparent!

  12. Greed gets the better of some organisers so cram more in to get the pitch money. Such a shame when it spoils the experience for everyone.

  14. Hi Sue - Just for info - if you are thinking of going to St John the Baptist in Needham anytime soon, it is closed for six months from January for major roof repairs and I bet it won't be finished in June! Best wishes to you both. PatC

  16. Happy birthday to your daughter. We have that ladybird book and it's been great fun with the grandchildren over the last few years. Glad you are both enjoying the snooker. It's found it's way onto our tv some of the time and I have followed a bit.

  18. We've been watching Thursday night darts on BBC-America. Rowdy fans and lots of fun. In a different lifetime I used to shoot darts at the bar down the street from my house. Had a lot of fun.
I hope Col has a peaceful week, and your trips to the hospital are safe.

  19. We loved the Ten Little Ladybugs when I watched children!
Our yard sales and garage sales can be life threatening, too! Especially at the start of the season. We’re all hungry for a cheap something-or-other! If I had to watch sports on TV id be going to all the sales to get away!
I hope this next week is easier on you both!
