On Saturday morning I went to the Methodist Chapel that I still think of as Col's Dad's Chapel. They were having a coffee morning fundraiser. As it's in the villages (its right on the boundary so both villages join in with events there) where we lived in the 1980s. I know lots of people from the past and new friends from Big WI and I had a coffee and a piece of cake and found out about another event to go to there in November
From there I went to the Eye Goes Green Autumn Fair.
All sorts of interesting stalls with information leaflets where I
found out about a shop in Diss that sells eco-friendly stuff and does
refills of cleaning products etc. got a Bee identification chart,
bought
a hand painted birthday card and was given two saplings of Spindle
Trees, from the Woodland trust to add to Colin's Birthday Wood. Then as it was about lunchtime I had a cheese scone with cheese and pickle and another coffee.
Eating Out........... and all for just a fiver!
Back Tomorrow
Sue
Sounds like a great day out to me Sue.
ReplyDeleteIt was good to get out and about on a damp Saturday
DeleteWhat could Bee better? And I look forward to hearing that the saplings have grown
ReplyDeleteNeed to put the Bee chart somewhere safe so I can look more closely at them next summer
DeleteWho knew there were so many bees? Sounds a nice day out and the carols would be something I'd look forward to. Lovely that you have 2 new trees for Colin's wood. xx
ReplyDeleteIshall look more closely at the bees next summer.
DeleteI have 5 trees now waiting to be planted out. Must get round to it.
How fantastic and such lovely connections with Col too. Generations to come will benefit from the Birthday Wood, including the most recent additions.
ReplyDeleteAnd eating out - twice - for a fiver. Fantastic!
xx
Very nice cake and scone - no good for the weight loss though
DeleteGood for you Sue, glad to hear you got a wiggle on, got yourself out and treated yourself. We have just joined the Woodland Trust, it’s good to know that they give away saplings. A lovely memorial to Colin... A Birthday Wood. I’d say an uplifting day for very little money, what better?
ReplyDeleteLX
Thw Woodland Trust give away a sapling at the Suffolk Show each year too. I have them in pots waiting to go out. - The ground should have softened up a bit after the rain
DeleteVery interesting bee chart, glad you enjoyed eating out twice.
ReplyDeleteI shall keep the bee chart until next summer and take a closer look at them
DeleteYum cheese scone may favourite! looks like a really good day. xx
ReplyDeleteAs it was a wholefood pop up cafe the scone was wholemeal flour so a bit flat! but very tasty.
DeleteSounds like a brilliant day out, and eating out twice for under a fiver is amazing. We spent a lot more on our week in Sark. Even on the way home it cost us over £11 for two coffees and two bottles of water at the motorway services.
ReplyDeleteWe spent the same again in the little M&S there and got two evening meals, bread, milk and sweets. It's made me even more determined to start my new Challenge soon.
Good grief - expensive coffees and water!
DeleteI shall look forward to your new challenge
What a lovely time, scone and coffee, young sapling what's not to like.
ReplyDeleteExactly!
DeleteAnd why not, we all deserve a treat or two.
ReplyDeleteIt was good to be out and about on a wet Saturday
DeleteThat bee chart looks to be just what I need for id'ing the bees in my garden. Glad you had a couple of outings, even though the weather wasn't at its best.
ReplyDeleteThe only places we have lunch at are The Edge at Wotton-Under-Edge and The Sandwich Cellar in Backfold, Hay-on-Wye. The latter is very good value - a bacon roll, a filled roll and two drinks come to less than £8. The Edge is dearer(about £5.95 for a toasted chicken and mozzarella sandwich, and the bill there comes to about £14 for two of us to eat.)
We never stop at Motorway services as I'm too mean! and always take a packed lunch if we are on a long journey.
Sue, thank you so much for expanding your blog list. You have so many interesting blogs.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your posts. You give such a nice picture of life in rural England.
Thanks
Pretty darn great!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteEating out is always nice, and for not too much money, is greater!!! -smile-
Noticing the comment above mine, now..... I too, love blogs which give a picture of rural life in England. And I love cozy reads, which do the same, in fiction.

Wow, what wonderful information about the Bees. I did realise there were a lot after reading a fabulous book earlier this year, but that chart is great.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that you also got a couple of new trees. Nothing quite so special as a planting trees in remembrance.
For me "eating out" means a formal sit down meal of at least two courses. Snacks are quite different, which is what you had. Roderick
ReplyDeleteBlimey that's a bit pedantic!
DeleteEating out for me is anything that isn't eating in!!
I just love that you got those treats for such little expense. Was just checking the ridiculous high prices for Afternoon tea at some restaurants! I would rather have 10 or more treats out as you did!
ReplyDeleteBirthday wood is a great idea too! Mum made a Rose Garden in memory of my Dad. She outlived him by almost 15 years.
What a lovely day. I must try pickle with a cheese scone next time I have one sounds yummy. The bee chart looks interesting, I didn't know there were so many, I sometimes have black bees in my garden I believe they are an old variety, really enjoy your blog. Thank you for sharing(:
ReplyDeleteSounds like a happy day out, Sue. Glad you enjoyed yourself.
ReplyDeleteYou must have enjoyed your day out and about. Love the bee identification card. Your bees look very different from ours here in Canada.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Sounds like a great day out, Sue. I asked for a Bee chart for Christmas last year. I was amazed how many different bees I actually had in my garden! A cheese scone is often my choice of treat when I'm out :)
