Anyway, having decided last week that the strawberry bed we built in our first year here wasn't worth keeping I straight away set about getting rid.
The edges were made from the wood frame of the strange pointless pergola thing, that lurked at the end of the garden when we moved in ...... Here it is in April 2017
By July 2017 we'd done this with some of the wood. The new raspberry bed closest to camera and the strawberry bed beyond
From the bedroom window you can see how close the two beds(the raspberry cage frame also needs to come down- somehow- it's bolted, nailed and very fixed) are to the hedge and trees - a much too dry spot. Photo below from September 2018.
First I forked out all the half-dead strawberry plants then I was able to unscrew most of the wood frame and with a bit of levering with a spade removed all the wood. That's now on the heap to be cut up for firewood sometime.

So job done. I can now run over it with the ride on mower and cut down whatever grows and eventually it will grass over - or I could buy a little grass seed.

you did a good job, i also like things done straight away and my lovely hubby is very laid back and doesn't understand why i'm so impatient! i just don't see the point in hanging around, i like to crack on!x

DeleteBetter to cut your losses and run. Easier on the mind to have a little extra grass to mow than keep looking at and wonder what to do with a garden bed where nothing will grow.

DeleteIf I get an idea I mull it over for so long it takes on a life of it's own, and changes so many times that I never seem to put it into action. Maybe it's because I am Libra and weigh everything up for far too long.

DeleteI always start off with 'I've been thinking ... ' when I'm putting an idea over to Alan and yes, like you I mean 'I've been thinking and I want it done NOW'. He's learnt to dread those three words as much as he dreads 'We need to talk'.

DeleteTasker, this is the same with me. My mom has been gone 2 1/2 years and I now own her home. When I work in her garden I feel so close to her. She loved working in the yard.

I always enjoy your blog. I'm impressed with your quick action on the strawberry bed. There are lots of 'free' grass seeds around in the hedge rows at present that you could sprinkle on the earth to give the grass a start.
