On the 11th Day of Christmas

On the 11th Day after Christmas.................
My Christmas treat will be
3 Chocolate melts

Yet Another book
A Pack of paints
4 Steaming puds
Some Salted Cashews
The Radio Times
Choca Mocha Coffee
A New Craft to try
Chocolate Liquers
A Paperback book
And a Big Tub of Chocolates just for me.

Todays treats go in a mug, pour over hot milk (or hot milk and water) the chocolate melts and mini marshmallows float to the top..........sounds pretty good to me....... Pictures tomorrow!

Up until Sunday I didn't know anyone who had had the corona virus but a relation of someone in my family is currently poorly, thankfully not in hospital, down in Devon. Someone who lives alone but mixed with other people over Christmas. I also heard that one of Cols cousins - a nurse in West Suffolk - had the virus during the early summer. DiL has a friend who is a nurse locally and heard how many people are now ill in Ipswich hospital..........many more than in the early lock-down, it's certainly getting worse around here, in fact if numbers are to be believed it's 10 times worse than a month ago.
Hopefully the vaccination programme will get going quickly but do wonder if starting with 80 year olds is the right way to go. (Apologies to over 80 year olds reading this!) I understand it's to help protect the NHS staff as it's the oldest people who end up in hospital but many very elderly are staying at home anyway. It will be a while before 65 year olds are vaccinated but I would happily pass my vaccine to some one younger, working in a school or hospital.
I didn't listen to Bo Jos latest spiel on BBC1 at 8pm last night about what we're not allowed to do now as Only Connect on BBC2 was bound to be much more interesting and there's sure to be enough about it on the news today.

Apart from that there's not a lot happening today except getting the septic tank sewer pumped out and I shall carry on packing boxes and clearing stuff out. I'm staying at home almost all week except I need to venture to the bank and get the milk I forgot on Saturday. Think I'll have it delivered after I move although the Milk and More website tells me the postcode doesn't exist......Oh Yes it does!

Thank you to everyone for comments yesterday....... much appreciated.

Back Tomorrow
Sue

  1. You're getting the septic tank pumped out?! Not a lot happening?? That would be classed as exciting round here! :)

  2. I too would happily let a teacher or other worker have my vaccine but it's not an option (yet).

    1. I doubt it will be an option - that would make things to complicated

  3. Hi Sue, This made me smile "I need to venture to the bank and get the milk I forgot on Saturday." I know 3 people who have had the virus, one who is a sonographer at Ipswich hospital and 2 people in the next close to mine. Stay safe. Veronica

  4. Your Septic Tank emptier is another who can't work from home.
I too chose Only Connect, but watched him on C4+1 News where as usual The Prime Minister's message was discussed by a couple of guests who were supposed to find fault egged on by the so called news presenter/reader.

  5. I want my vaccine because for the past 10 months I have not been able to pitch in and help out with local, voluntary relief schemes, such as our Food Pod. It's really been getting to me that I am unable to help out in this time of need. I guess because we live in such a tight community, we know everyone who has got/had, or sadly died, from it.

    1. Hope you are able to get the vaccine quickly. There's nothing to join in with where I live!

  6. I didn't see a briefing but it won't change anything. Everyday is a lockdown day as far as I'm concerned. Who the vaccine is rolled out to is a no win situation for the govt. Whoever they give it to somebody will always be waiting to say they are wrong.

    1. I have no idea what's right or wrong. Too hard for my small brain to compute!

    2. That is because there is no definitive right or wrong answer. Personally I would go for those with underlying health conditions and the elderly because they are the vulnerable to it getting a hold if they catch it.

  7. If schools are to open, then teachers should get the vaccine.

  8. Those chocolate melts look nice, my daughter gave me a hamper for Christmas and there was so in there, look forward to having theme.
My D. Has had the virus and I had to be tested fortunately I was okay. I would much rather one of the family could be vacated, I don't go out but they are all working and can get it.
Is a warm day today and no frost this morning.

  9. I am the same with the vaccine - the teachers need it to carry on the children's education.

  11. Like you, I chose Only Connect over the PM, knowing I could read it all up very soon afterwards. Third lockdown is worse than second, which was worse than the first, when people were cheerful. Now, the weather's bad and people are tired of it all. It's miserable for those of us living alone but so much worse for NHS workers and teachers, poor things.

    1. I'm resigned to being at home alone again. Just able to see the nearest part of the family sometimes.

  12. It is a mess and likely to go on for sometime but blame is difficult to hand out when so many factors add to what everyone is experiencing.

  13. I watched the PM as I was eager to see what he had to say, but as I had already watched the news I didn't want to wait for and watch more news later as I'm totally fed up with the news now. I always record Only Connect so I watched that straight after ... and got the first question right ... YAY!!

I too wondered at the over 80s being the priority for vaccinations until I read the logic behind it, if they catch it they nearly always end up in intensive care and needing much more nursing, already it does seem to be helping the NHS.

Now I'm back at the flat the only thing I need to venture out for is dog walks, and a bag of potatoes ... I forgot to bring them with me :-(

  14. I agree with vaccines being given to reduce the strain on the NHS. I have been unwell over Christmas. Husband wanted to take me to Casualty. I refused, because I knew that I would be sent to the nearest maxillofacial unit which is over 50 miles away, and in a hospital which has admitted to being overwhelmed. Also, hospitals are not tbe healthiest places to spend time at the moment!
So I, and many others I'm sure, have managed as best we can. I've come through my bout, but many operations including for removal of normally treatable cancers, are being postponed, and we need to get back to a state of affairs where the NHS can function again for all.

  15. I don't know what is the right thing to do about the vaccines, I just know, as soon as I'm called, I'll be there! I do think the lockdown should have come earlier though, and allowing people to meet on Christmas day was madness in my opinion. It was bound to cause an increase in infection. Oh well, I guess the Government can't do right for doing wrong. Stay safe everyone! xx

  17. We have medical and essential workers going first near me which makes sense. I am 70 but I don't need to go out so the ones that have to be out in public should get it before me. Also nursing home patients as they been hit hardest.

  18. Your treat today sure looks good! You can't go wrong with chocolate. They are not very organized in getting the vaccine out here in the US so no telling when we will get it. Good luck with your packing.

  20. Yum chocolate! I will be happier knowing when my 84 year old Mum gets it. I know she doesn't go out much but my sister delivers groceries to her or - has been - taking her to the shops. I think it's just knowing that if she did get the virus because she is old and vulnerable she is more likely to get really sick. I think that is their reasoning for starting with older people. I know that younger people get it but they are more likely (not all) to be able to recover.
