Jars

We are lucky to have a place locally that stocks all sorts of packaging things plus a ton of other stuff for flower arranging/parties/cake making/ and all sorts of other bits and bobs and I went there a couple of weeks ago for some 12oz jars ready for making my Red Hot-as-you-like Relish and Red Onion Chutney and more Marrow/Apricot and Ginger Jam - all things I want to do soon, some for me and some for Christmas Gifts.

Then a week later I found these 8oz jars at a boot sale for £2.50. The lady also had some half packs of smaller jars too but they were really too small for jam or chutney.

(The other bits were small Lego kits for oldest Grandson who was about to visit and 3 bigger vehicles to add to the car box...............that's despite me saying I had enough already!)

  1. I'm always adding to the toy box, I love to see their faces when they discover new things. Having now finally a grand daughter, I am looking for girls toys.

    1. I do save jars too but don't seem to buy many things that come in jars, or if I do they are too big - like mayo. Don't like having to buy them but it's the only thing to do when I give so many away

    1. Eldest Grandson loved the little Lego kits and did all 3 with very little help

  5. Cars - trucks - buses…..anything mobile like that appeal to both little boys and girls. So I’m another who says ‘you can never have too many’. Combined with Lego they’ll have children’s minds working overtime.

    1. The two girls are not so interested in the cars even though they are there if they want to play with them - they prefer colouring and drawing and dolls!

  6. The new 8 oz. jars will be perfect in Christmas baskets as well. Having toys/gifts on-hand works well. Like you, I am always on the look-out. My tall dresser of drawers holds gifts of all kinds. I love seeing a child's face light up when they see a new toy/gift. Adults too.

  7. My neighbor's little granddaughter was visiting recently, driving her small dolls in toy cars on the grass, much dialog, then suddenly she flew them around, dolls shouting we're flying, we're flying! She would approve of extra cars, I'm sure.

  8. You're well set now, aren't you? The plans sound delicious!
I felt a decided pang this morning when I consigned a perfectly good glass jar to the recycling but I really do not need it, I have loads. xx

    1. I don't seem to get many jars into the house now to re-use. Mayo are too big and coffee have plastic lids that cant be sealed properly. Olive jars are always too tall and thin

  9. Never enough cars and trucks for the car box! I found a great set of all the Thomas the Tank engines at the resale shop and my grandkids were so happy to play with them. The bag was $8 but there were 14 pieces in the bag - engines and coal cars that link together. I always check the toy section now when I hit the resale shops - I learned that from you! Thanks!

  10. I half filled our recycle bin recently with jars that I had been keeping. I am now saving only unusual shaped jars for my craft class at christmas. Lovely that you found toys that the grandchildren enjoyed. Catriona

  13. I am not really sure what marrow is - I have only seen it mentioned it in books. However, I do love apricot jam so wish I could try that jam.
