Eldest's painting of my pots of Hostas and Nasturtiums |
Now walls are painted (mostly) it was time to unpack, sort out and hang or get rid. As I unwrapped various paintings, prints and framed cross stitch I kept finding ones I don't even like anymore! So a massive clear out, keeping just the favourites and the rest have gone into the car-boot boxes.
An email over Easter said Ziffit were offering an extra 15% for books over the weekend and as I'd already found a few they would take decided to search through and find a few more to make a small box full. Added up they came to £25, so much better than taking them to a car boot. I've counted the boxes behind the settee in the living room - from 25 we are down to 20 - sorting and carrying upstairs is going to be a long job.
A little gardening was done on Monday afternoon but I found myself very tired after the weekend visitors, so spent a while watching the snooker and resting.
Thank you for all the birthday wishes, another year older and no wiser! Also Happy Birthday to several other bloggers who had birthdays this weekend - a very strange happening. Must be something about Mid April! Welcome also to new followers.

Strange how our tastes change...but change they certainly do. x
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday! I am in big sort out mode at home and you are right, it is amazing how our tastes change isn't it. I am glad to find someone else who is happy to move things on when the time is right as sometimes I feel as though I should always keep everything, but I like to turn things around sometimes and as I donate what I get rid of and buy things for not much - or am given them if I am lucky - in the first place I don't think that is too bad is it. Sorry didn't mean to pile that on you! Anyway, enjoy the sorting!!
ReplyDeleteWe had a friend who framed things for us just for the cost of the materials, I think this made me less choosy on what to buy
DeleteI've never been much of a picture or ornament type of person but lately I am feeling the need to add some colour to the walls with some pictures and also to add some bits to the kitchen dresser to brighten it up. I think a bit of a mooch round the charity shops first to see what I can pick up but I would dearly love a Jack Vettriano print which I don't expect I'll find.
ReplyDeleteLove the painting of the Hostas and Nasturtiums-x-
Happy belated birthday, Sue!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with how much you've done around your new home in just a short period. Your daughter's painting is really lovely.
Happy belated birthday! Sounds like you are settling in. The painting is lovely - definitely a keeper. Glad you were able to get rid of a few things
ReplyDeleteYour eldest's a talented lass, and is making a habit of creating beautiful 'things', first a painting, then the gorgeous Jacob!
ReplyDeleteShe certainly is - now a print designer for Phase8 - she's just gone back to work
DeleteVery pretty one of the host as.
ReplyDeleteAlways a relief to off load when my tastes have changed.
I need to let go some more even now.
Sorry I missed your birthday (we have had SUCH a hectic long weekend). It sounds like you had a lovely time anyway.
ReplyDeleteI think there will be things we won't be taking with us WHEN we eventually move, so perhaps I should start to be hard-hearted NOW!
I ought to have got rid of more things before we moved although it was the wrong time of year to do a car boot sale and there wasn't room to sort stuff out. At least we know now what we want to keep and what to pass on
DeleteApologies if this posts twice! If you're selling books to Ziffit and you've got the patience, it can be worth waiting a few days and then checking through the rejects to see if they'll now accept them. I've generally found that they'll take a quarter to a third of the books they originally said no to. It's a bit tedious, but it can be helpful if you're trying to fill a box up.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is it works the other way too! Sometimes a book they would take on one day when I look, they don't want two days later when I come to actually load a box!
DeleteA happy belated birthday! You are getting settled into your lovely new home so quickly! I know that is a lot of hard work plus you are going back and forth to the hospital as well. You deserve lots of breaks for yourself during this busy time! That picture is lovely - I actually thought it was a photograph! Your daughter is quite the talented artist!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful painting. Your eldest is very talented.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday.
God bless.
That painting is a definite keeper! Lovely.
ReplyDeleteYour eldest is clearly very talented with a brush, that painting is just lovely.
