A Week Flies By

It's been a busy week, rushing toward the end of April. Good thing my posts have been short or pre-prepared.
Monday morning Col had a hour of being well enough so that we were able to finish cutting a pile of odd bits of scrap-wood to add the the wood shed but since then he has been really rough. Mainly due to not being able to eat much because of the sore mouth then add in new chemo tablets and antibiotics for the chesty cough and a tablet mixture destined to make anyone feel sick and tired.
On Monday night I bit a piece of chocolate that had been in the fridge and broke a tooth.Serves me right for being greedy! Luckily the tooth is the only one that has had root canal done so it doesn't hurt at all.

Tuesday I took the bundle of boot-sale summer clothes over to Florence. Her mummy thought it very funny as I unpacked each item and showed them to Florence....."Pink top?", "Stripey shorts?", Flowery top?"
She nodded at some but shock her curls at others! Then she got busy moving the pile of clothes from table to chair and then back to table again....... easily entertained.
After that we settled down with two books - also boot sale treasures. She does like a new book to look at.
Here is our poppet enjoying a small piece of fruit tea bread - she eats anything and everything, easily fed too!

Wednesday morning we went to Stowmarket and I dropped Col off at the solicitors to meet his brother and sister. They are doing more to sort out his Dad's will. His Dad died last July and it's taking an age to sort. While he was there I rushed round Asda for shopping. The lady on the till said have you got your car-park voucher? and I realised I'd forgotten to put money in the machine!........thank heavens no parking attendant had been round and given me a fine.......phew .....lucky escape.
Once home I then had to go out again to the dentist, luckily they'd had a cancellation so I could have a check up and he could sort out what to do with the broken tooth. EXPENSIVE is the answer to that one. I will try and find an NHS dentist again after I've had this course of treatment but I'm not hopeful, it could mean  traveling miles which seems silly.
Wednesday afternoon was housework

Thursday the sun was shining but the wind was cutting. I got all the wild flower modules planted on the meadow, weeded the asparagus bed, planted the rest of the sunflowers, sorted out the things in the greenhouse - 3 courgettes seedlings have appeared at last, re-potted my Lemon and Calamondin plants (can't call them trees yet as they are only 18 inches tall). I used multi purpose compost but have a nasty feeling I should have got some special compost for citrus.
Then I put compost on the bit of the cut flower garden where the sweet peas will go and forked it in.
The afternoon was cross stitching.....finished a Christmas card for a small person.

Friday and we were away early to Addenbrookes hospital. Once again Col was put in a little side room to wait and when I eventually tracked him down (I'd dropped him off and gone and parked) I found him laying on an examination couch  - half asleep. Three hours later we saw doctors and the nutritionist. She found him lots of high calorie juice drinks and milk shake mixes to make up for the calories he's not eating. News from doctor isn't good but we've decided to go ahead with the Photopheresis treatment which may help the Graft verses Host disease that's causing the mouth ulcers. So two consecutive days at Addenbrookes soon. Slow traffic and a lot of rain all the way home and it looks as if we are in for several wet days.

Have a good weekend everyone
Back Monday
Sue

  1. Looking out of our bedroom window this morning it looks like a weekend of hunkering down and no gardening for us. I’ll just check on the seedlings in the greenhouse then we are off to our village market. I was shocked at the dentist to be charged £52 for 15 minutes with the hygienist. I’m afraid I will be cutting that to once a year if finances get tighter! We were lucky to get NHS dentistry for as long as we did I suppose. I might dig out some embroidery to do later. Have a good weekend.

    1. I'm having an ordinary filling on another tooth and a re-build filling of the tooth that broke and its going to be a couple of £100!! But there are no NHS dentists anywhere close and at least this is just 3 miles. I've not needed so much treatment for several years, so have got off lightly for quite a while

  2. A gorgeous girl who knows what she likes, books, just like her Gran.

I had some big mouth ulcers (going back about 3 decades!) when we lived in UAE; a pharmacist mixed up some concoction from denture fixative and some mystery ingredients. I was very dubious, but it was the best treatment ever. It latched on to the ulcers, covering them, so I was finally able to eat. It was weird, but very effective. Would that I could get some for Col.

    1. That does sound a strange mixture, the doctor mentioned something - a paste- that I could buy at the chemist so will try that. It's not stocked at the hospital pharmacy

  3. I've had a lemon tree for years, grown from a pip by my mum, and I never used special compost - in fact, I didn't know there was such a thing! Hope the treatment helps Col to feel more comfortable.

    1. I wonder what is in a citrus compost to make it different?

  4. I * think * citrus is ericaceous . . . but it sounds as if it doesn't really matter.
What a poppet Florence is. I want to give her a warm, squishy hug. I love littlies.

    1. I've found Levingtons do a citrus compost but it could well be the same as anything else and just a way of charging more and baffling me with science!

  5. What a lovely head of curls Florence has! I love the idea of the little fashion parade and her nodding/shaking her head at each item. Sounds like you've had a very busy week. Sorry Col's feeling so rough.

    1. It was funny to see her looking at each bit of clothing and "deciding" if she liked it

  6. Glad Col is getting liquid nourishment to give him some energy. You have been busy in the garden and how patient you are to grow citrus trees.

    1. Not grown from pips I'm afraid They were both picked up cheap from Wilkinsons or QD, I'm surprised they've survived a whole year!

  7. Hi. Have you tried My Dentist? A chain of NHS dentists which I switched to after losing faith (and a lot of money) with my private practice. I think they have practices all over the country and I have been very impressed so far. Gorgeous girlie you have there!

  9. Morning Sue

What a busy week you've both had! Florence is such a cutie, IF she did anything naughty, it would be difficult to tell her off.

Sorry to hear that Colin has been under par lately. Let's hope the juice drinks buck him up.

Shocking at the price of dentists now. I'm fortunate that hubby pays less than £20pm for my dental treatment. I've had 2 teeth that cracked recently and was able to get it sorted quickly.

    Have a good weekend :-D

  10. Florence looks such a cutie, her curly hair is gorgeous and doesn’t it make life easier when they’ll eat anything. You’ve certainly been busy, I winced when you said you broke your tooth xx

  12. Florence has gotten so big! What a little doll with that gorgeous curly hair.

Dental prices are outrageous here in the U.S. I pay $170 just for a cleaning with the hygienist and checkup by the dentist. There are no NHS-type options here. Some people go to dental schools to get their care from dentists-in-training but there are no dental schools near me.

  15. It must be very hard to feel like eating with a sore mouth. I hope the treatment gives your husband relief.

Your little granddaughter is a sweetie. It's surprising how early they can form opinions on what clothing they do or don't like!

  16. Florence is adorable and those curls are so cute! She sure is growing fast but don't all the little ones just shoot up overnight! Sorry about your tooth. I think dental work is my least favorite thing to have done. Good luck with it!

  19. Little Florence is precious! I had a beloved aunt with that name. My mom was one of 12 kids, can you imagine? Her mom was one of 16 kids. Egads. Sorry your dear husband is dealing with all of these health challenges. :-( I hope your Sunday brings you peace and happy pursuits. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  21. When my stepdad was ill, my mom mixed ice cream with his Ensure (protein drink) and he drank it all up. Said it tasted like a milk shake. I hope Col feels a bit better. Before my health issues, I did apheresis for the American Red Cross. I hope it will help Col out.
