Saturday 12th October

A quiet week.
*
Bacton WI 100th birthday meal
*
Chimney swept and cracked firebricks in the wood-burner replaced
*
Lots of rain = no boot sales.
*
Visited Florence on her 3rd Birthday.
*
Cycling, just up and down the road but a bit further each time.
*

And I pulled the elderberries - picked last month -  out of the freezer and turned them into 5 and a bit bottles of elderberry syrup. This will be more than I need so another thing for the hampers.

Today is Suffolk Libraries day and a book by a local author is going to travel to all libraries in one day, different companies or groups are taking or sponsoring the journeys including bits where the book is carried by boat, rickshaw, hearse, tractor, penny farthing, runners and........a  unicorn?!

Map of book's route across Suffolk
there are events happening in libraries all over Suffolk- although at the libraries nearest me the events are not very exciting so I shall go to a coffee morning at Chapel and then have a look at this which sounds interesting and very topical

 This week I'm grateful for
  • Opportunities for outings
  • A soft sheepskin cover for my bike seat
  • Some new followers - welcome - hello - hello and thank you.
  • Picking the right days to get the washing dry

Hope you have interesting things to do this weekend
Back Monday

  2. I like the idea of the travelling book! Like unicorns, sloths are very trendy at the minute, but I guess one of those would travel too slowly!

    1. They've got a nasty day for running round Suffolk with a book - wet and grey

  3. I must take a page or two out of your book I think. We don't get a library van in our village.

    1. A page out of which book.......I have about 500! :-)

I like going to the van rather than a building because the van will keep my ordered books for me until the next visit so I collect them all at once whereas a static library will only hang on to reserved books for a week so have to keep going and picking them up one at a time. Plus they don't charge fines!

  4. Nothing planned, but I intend to work on a few old (very old) crafty projects. It's time they were done and put away. Have a wonderful weekend!

  5. The Autumn Fair sounds interesting and the Library route looks good, I see lots of places that my family lived in.
The wealthier has been bad here so have not been out, I hope to put the rest if the daffodils out and I brought some wallflowers at the Garden Centre where we have Knit and Natter.
My family are coming tomorrow my son has a few jobs to do for me and my daughter is shortening some curtains for me, a job since the stroke I cannot do myself --- so frustrating.
Have a good weekend Sue and everyone else.

  6. You have unicorns in Suffolk? I always wondered where they came from.

  8. I don't know if you know, but here, in Ontario and other parts of Canada, the settlers named towns (some of which grew into cities) after their hometowns in England and elsewhere. Looking at your map, I see Sudbury, Newmarket, and Woodbridge, all places here. My mom used to make elderberry pie. -Jenn

    2. Yes it is! Just looking at that map - I live next to Ipswich, near Haverhill, we have a Needham, a Framingham and several Hadleys. We also have Salisbury, Amesbury (Wiltshire), Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex counties, Dedham, Boston, Marlborough, Roxbury, Leicester, Lancaster, Lincoln...endless!

  9. The elderberry syrup looks great! I have never had that. I have made rowanberry jelly for the first time this year. I think it is interesting to try to make things like that. Have a nice weekend!

    1. The elderberry syrup kept away colds last year and is very delicious. I've never made rowanberry jelly, don't seem to have many rowans around here.

  10. Lunch out tomorrow, as every Sunday - that's about it.
I do love your positive attitude.

  11. Would you believe I found a "crown" of very late elderberries to pick this afternoon when I was at the bottom of the yard. They've been added to my bag in the freezer and I will make some fresh syrup when I'm not chasing my tail.

It's been very rainy here too but I managed to do some garden tidying up today before the rain hit again.

The Suffolk Libraries Day sounds interesting. Should be rolled out country wide I reckon!

  12. You commented in my blog today; "The Elizabeth Fair books are recently reprinted for us all to enjoy thanks to Scott at Furrowed Middlebrow blog."

This, in regard to my posting, that I loved a book by this author.

Thank you so much. I will try to find this man's blog, and thank him, too!!!

And thank you so much, for leaving a comment in my blog. Thus allowing me to find your blog.

    1. If you look at my post a couple of days ago (In praise of Reprints) there is a link to Dean St Press who've re-printed lots of books that Scott has written about on his blog. Enjoy finding them

  13. It may have been a quiet week but it does sound like you accomplished a lot. It looks like the festival in Eye will be interesting. Enjoy your weekend!

  14. Enjoy your weekend. It's very warm, 25C and the smell of the fire in the air. We're 40 or so miles away from it but the smell is there. They've put out warnings for people with breathing problems to stay inside. So I'm watching "Mystic Britain" and reading. Hope your weather clears,

  16. That is a wonderful idea of the author going to the libraries. And I bet that syrup is good over ice cream.

  17. I hoped the book stayed dry as it was a showery day

  18. The library thing sounds good.

Oooh a sheepskin seat cover for your saddle sounds like bliss. I got a very sore bum cycling on the roads on Sark, it would have been a lot easier on Tarmac and not stony, muddy roads, but my balance was not good after 35 years of not cycling 🤣😄
