Snag Tights

PLEASE NOTE - this post is NOT sponsored and I'm not expecting anything in return!

I try to avoid wearing dresses  because I hate wearing tights - for one reason - they NEVER fit, anything big enough for thighs has meant a gigantic top that comes up right over my bra and then falling down to wrinkly at the ankles like Nora Batty..........Not a pretty sight.

I wear leggings and tunics (shorts in summer) most of the time and only possess three dresses - one black and white dressy  cotton for summer weddings or funerals, one simple cornflower blue long dress for summer BBQs or similar occasions and one navy and sparkly bought for Son's winter wedding.

When the new WI  Life magazine arrived (that's the national magazine for WI members) it had an advert page for  Snag Tights................Tights that finally fit!

I had a look on line and they have photos of real people wearing their TIGHTS with their height and what size they are wearing  plus a chart where you decide what body shape you need for your height. So I thought I'd send for a pair, more in hope than expectation. They are not cheap like you could pick up in a supermarket if you are a "normal" shape, but on the other hand if they fitted it could open up a whole new world of things I can wear.

They do all sorts of colours (takes me back to the 1980s when I was thinner and often wore green or red tights)I decided to go for the thicker tights for winter, in navy blue. They arrive promptly and  came in a thick paper envelope and inside wrapped in tissue paper, no plastic  anywhere.

And they fit...........properly...........no falling down............and the waist is where the waist should be.

Yippee do!

Now I need more dresses!

  1. I avoid dresses for the same reason! I love the allusion to Nora Batty. Summer Wine was always one of our favourite comedy shows.

  2. I used to have very similar problems and put up wih the uncomfortableness (is that a word - I didn't mean discomfort exactly?) for decades. Good for WW!

    1. I hated the way tights were tight in some places and baggy elsewhere

  3. Those have come up on my Facebook feed. Good to hear that these do what they say on the label! And they are plastic-free. Someone has their head screwed on properly.

  5. Ooh that's useful to know as they had an advert on TV last night and I did wonder what they might be like. Thanks Sue

  6. Thank you Sue. I keep seeing the ads and wondered about them. I'm short with chunky thighs and have real problems finding comfortable tights. And I love wearing dresses, and I love fun coloured tights too. But I hate wriggling and discomfort. An honest review from someone I trust is really helpful. Thanks, they're going on my Christmas wish list!

  8. This reads like something I could have written, but are 'normal' tights designed to fit anyone at all? Snag are amazing, not cheap but amazing.

  9. I've not worn tights since I stopped work over 20 years ago, and I've not missed them at all! I quite like the idea of thick ones for winter, though. Will take a look.

  10. Simple pleasures, I don't wear skirts or dresses since I gave up work in the cooler months, so I have loads of bright coloured tights just sitting in a drawer, maybe I should sort the and pass them to a charity shop.

  11. I've always had a problem with tights, but unlike you I am a bit taller than average, so always had trouble with fit. Instead of under my armpit it was a struggle to get them up to my waist. What fun we ladies do have!

Another problem I had because of my long legs was trousers. Apparently females stopped growing at 5'4" and I was 5'9" (I'm shrinking now, lol).
I did get some made for me by an ex-tailor and resorted to men's denim jeans (late 1960s). Now manufacturers seem to have cottoned on, thank goodness.

Have you changed the size of your font Sue? I'm having difficulty reading your last couple of posts. I don't seem to have a problem on other blogs.

    1. AS far as I know no font change unless it did it all by itself. I shall examine the one in drafts for tomorrow.

  12. Oh the excitement of something that fits. I have a problem with trousers - apple shape, slim hips, no thighs and long legs - they can look like short jodphurs on me!

  13. Glad you found some tights that fit. Was laughing about the tights up under your arms. Me, too! Post surgery several years ago, I had to wear compression tights (and yes, they came up under my arms and it took about half an hour to struggle into them). I always felt like I was in a Monty Python movie and all I needed was one thin mint...and KABOOM! Fortunately, everything held together for the required time and now they languish in the back of a drawer somewhere. :)

  14. Brilliant, glad you have found some good ones, I actually love wearing thick tights and jumper dresses in the winter rather than trousers.

  15. We call them stockings if there sheer and tights if colored. And like you I don't like wearing them anymore. I have one black skirt and two summer dresses but rarely wear any of them. I have a wedding to go to next weekend and trying to decide how I can make black slacks look dressy. Daughter is coming Tuesday so I'll pull her into the decision.

  16. They could have though of a better name. When I read ‘Snag’ tights I thought they would be fragile and catch on anything and everything, as in the name!

  17. I have not worn tights for years - they fit well but I just can no longer get into them. The contortions I have to make are impossible.
But as I don't possess a single skirt or dress and live permanently in either jeans or dressy trousers I am able to get away with knee highs thank goodness.

  19. I've seen these advertised before and wondered if they were any good. Thanks for letting us know they are! I can wear M&S thick tights, but other makes I generally look like Nora Batty!

    1. Tights are absolutely fine to wear if you know how big you are, then look at the size guide on the table that appears on the packaging. If you are not sure if you sit on the fence of two sizes then I would advise buying the size up. Do not buy 'one size' tights as they will only fit a small proportion of the population. I buy my tights from M&S, F&F (Tesco) and Gipsy tights online. Hope this helps.

  21. It is very important to buy tights of the right size. Never go for tights that are one size fits all, there will be a slim chance of them fitting. Comfort is another important factor, you may be wearing your tights for most of the day, so they need to feel nice. https://www.flickr.com/photos/153107942@N06/48096645687
