A Few Good Finds at the Boot-Sale

Lots of people selling at the local boot-sale on Sunday and crowds buying too, but plenty of room to look round without feeling hassled by too many people. They've spread the sellers out and stretched the car park to a bit further away so although it's further to walk from the car park it never feels crowded around the tables of stuff - and plenty of STUFF too - junk, tat and unwanted rubbish!

Although if I had a bottomless purse I could have bought toys for grandchildren to last them for the next 10 years and enough children's books to stock several libraries!

Instead I came away with just 4 things

A large photo frame with four spaces now I have four grandchildren was £1. The tin of 4 puzzles and the clock fit-together thing were to take to Youngest Granddaughter  as I was going there for lunch but my favourite find was the Mediterranean Cheese Making Kit. "It's not been opened and its out of date" The lady said when I asked how much and I was expecting her to say it was several £'s but when she said £3 my purse opened quite quickly! . After putting my glasses on I found the Best Before date was 1st August 2020 - so only 1 day over!
I used to make a soft goats cheese quite often when we had plenty of milk and also a paneer type cheese too and thought it would be fun to see what this kit does. (Just looked on Amazon - this kit retails for £27.50 !!!)

I still haven't got round to writing a list of things to look for but remembered to search for a  tin-opener - although it  might be better to buy a brand new one anyway, to be sure it's OK. I do have a tin opener but it's sometimes temperamental so put one on my mental "look for" list. Perhaps next week - weather permitting.

Back Tomorrow

  3. I don't think there are any car boot sales being held this year - I know Burry Port definitely isn't. I am envious of your being able to go again. You had some good finds, especially the cheese making kit. I look forward to seeing what you produce.

  5. The cheese making kit was a great buy! I bought one from the company who make them for my daughter and her partner at Christmas. They had great fun with it during lockdown and were very pleased with the results.

  9. It's good to be selective at car boot sales, it's oh so easy to get carried away when things are being sold so cheaply and you got some real bargains there. The grand children will look lovely all in that photo frame, a bargain at a pound!!

    1. Thought I'd better swap my 3 space frame for four space so the youngest two don't always have to be in the same photo

  13. Here they're called flea markets. I've probably been to one total. Can't get husband to stop. "What do we need with more junk?" He says. Did see an antique store yesterday in a town south of here that looked charming. I said I'd have to come back on my own to visit it.

  14. I haven't ventured to one yet, everytime I've thought about it it's either been too windy or a fine drizzle.

  16. I love the clock. It looks really well made as well as being very cute.

In my area (Florida) a huge family-run flea market has gone out of business. It’s been here most of my life so it’s very sad.

  17. The cheese making kit looks interesting and was a great bargain. I bet your grandchildren have a lovely collection of toys and books that you've found on your car boot outings. xx

  18. You have some good finds from that outing.
I need a list for Op shop browsing, so I put items in the notes section of my mobile phone...then the list doesn't get left at home.😁

  20. What fab finds, and it was good that you thought the social distancing was adequate. We just had quite the fiasco here in a neighboring town when they did a town wide yard sale - so many COVID cases from that event that they made the national news - not a good thing.

Friend L and I are dying to go thrifting, but will wait a bit longer. Maybe once the kids are back in school. You seem to be able to spot a good buy as well as L.
