Looking Back at the Week

I spent Monday morning sorting more books to sell on Ziffit and at the end of the on-line stuff  it said they would be collected by courier instead of having to take them somewhere for collection - which was handy.

The electric was off for a planned outage on Tuesday morning so I pootled up to Diss and Morrisons and took advantage of the government half price food thing for my morning coffee break. Also went into Boots and printed out some up to date photos of the grandchildren to fill up the 4 space frame. Only Eldest Grandson's photo isn't recent - he'll have school photos soon as he starts in September. (Seems much too soon as he was only 4 in May - I don't like the way they do school intakes now).

On Wednesday Youngest Granddaughter came round to play while DiL and Youngest Grandson had to go out - and then Youngest Daughter arrived with Eldest Granddaughter so it was girl cousins together  - great fun! YD cooked for us all which was a treat.

On Thursday as  the mower was back from it's latest repair I was able to hook up the trailer and shift the 20+ paving slabs that were round what was the new raspberry bed. Hot work - not sure a 65 year old woman is supposed to be shifting slabs. But the job's done all bar the soil leveling.
I'm advertising the fruit cage frame and netting in the local parish mag. next month - hopefully someone locally will want it.

Friday was so windy but a very warm wind - already the trees down the meadow have been losing leaves due to the lack of rain and after Friday even more are on the ground. Autumn really is just round the corner............ I don't mind, every season has it's moments.
I spent more time sorting bookshelves, tidying emptying, cleaning. One new bookcase (bought when we moved here as the shelves at the smallholding were all built-in) has been put in my bedroom as a bedside table so I can get rid if what was there. I managed to slide the old lot downstairs and will advertise it for free on the local facebook page. Youngest Daughter may have the other book case if we can find a way to get them to her.

All week I've also been doing other odd bits of gardening - between rain and the sweaty humidity. There's quite a lot to clear now -sometimes it feels overwhelming - but a bit at a time will get it done and I remember I feel like this at the end of every growing season since Colin died.

This week I'm grateful for
  • Energy for shifting paving slabs and bookshelves
  • Finding the whole first series of Yellowstone (US TV modern western series starring Kevin Costner) on My5 catch up site. I can watch anything with him in it no matter how violent!
  • Plums without maggots to put in the freezer.

Now here we are round to Saturday again, I doubt anything exciting is happening this weekend but I'm ever hopeful!

Back Monday
Sue

  1. You're working incredibly hard at the moment. I'm really impressed by your achievements . But do be careful not to overdo things - make plenty of time for the gentle activities (Kevin Costner, a comfy chair and a cuppa)

    1. It's nice to have room for all 4 individually, I'll be able to update the photos regularly

  3. Isn't it strange - I notice it and it sounds as though you do too - as a couple weekends are when something different happens - when living alone Saturdays and Sundays are often days when nothing much happens.

    1. The wind knocked loads of pears off the tree - nowhere near ripe yet - a shame.
Forecast looks OK for car boot sale on Sunday

  5. A lot of activity in your week. You must have ached after lifting all those slabs, just be careful you don't pull a muscle or two.

There usually isn't any change to my weeks, especially with lockdown, but this last week I've had a home visit from my doctor, appointment with my optician and yesterday we looked after our youngest grand-daughter while our daughter did some work at home. Next week I'll be having some x-rays done at Taunton, (the outcome of my GPs home visit).

    1. Luckily having the trailer on the mower meant I didn't lift the slabs too much. Just levered them up into the trailer and pulled them off where they are stacked

  6. You have been very busy. I find the physical work a bit too demanding these days, but I manage to keep going if I don't try to do it all at once.

I had to smile at your "plums without maggots" as something to be thankful for! Here I have to settle for plums without mould or bird-pecking splits.

    1. The earlier plums were horrible but now they are mostly maggot free - very tasty too

  7. Well done you for moving those paving slabs! I'm not sure I could manage a job like that these days.

    1. I was pleased to get it done so I can level the soil, wait for the grass to grow back and just mow it

  8. Reading across lots of blogs I've started to notice a developing theme that (among people who blog at any rate) in these 'days of disease' there is no lack of things to do, but the things we do get repeated with such regularity that each day is almost timetabled, and that is itself creates a lack of something to look forward to tomorrow; even when the things we do are for ourselves (our own joy), like reading, yoga, swimming, gardening. I've likened it to cleaning a train, carriage by carriage from one end to the other, getting off at the last station, walking down the platform to the start of the job and beginning same all over again. So it is great when something comes along (like a visit from grand-daughters) to add back some of life's spontaneity. Like you, I'm grateful for some very taken-for-granted ordinary things, but do miss what life's spontaneity adds to the business of keeping busy and cheerful. (F)

    1. Because of having to book in advance for everything I keep putting things off.
Hopefully all will be back to normal sometime next year

  9. I hadn't heard of Ziffit until I read your post today. I am now £7.59 better off, selling books that the charity shop couldn't take. Thank you.
I'm now going to look for Mr Costner as I like a good series to watch in the afternoon.
    Take care.

    1. There is also Music Magpie to sell to.
Over the last 5 years I've gradually sold off lots of the 1,400 books we once had. It's useful.
Charity shops round here all have signs up saying "sorry we can't take any more donations at the moment"

  10. You will have to do an up to date book count as you reach the end of your sorting!!

I might have a go at putting all the car boot sale books into Ziffit and see what I would get for them, there are so many waiting to go that a courier would definintely be necessary.

  11. What a heavy job you had in moving those paving slabs! I hope you didn't hurt your back. It was lucky that you found the frame with four spaces, just right for the grandchildren. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  13. I do hope you are having a relaxing week end after all your hard work of the week.Perhaps you’ve found a good car boot sale to go to this morning? Though the weather has been very iffy here in the West Mids. One minute Autumn the next April

  18. Busy week. I've been doing some book decluttering - trying. I have so many. I must admit that the amount of books is starting to not make me happy. Definitely means it's time to get rid of some. I'm just struggling with which ones to get rid of.

Mum went to Felixstowe on Friday. She said it was so windy! Sister (who drove her) was afraid the Orwell Bridge would be shut down which would make the Ipswich traffic terrible so they cut short the day out.
