Library Book Photo

Did the Mobile library turn up for the first time since May?

Yes....Hooray

Were there many books that I'd reserved to pick up from the van

Yes........... 14

I'm a very happy bunny 😀

From left to right

Ponies at the Edge of the World; A Story of Hope and Belonging in Shetland by Catherine Munro (not sure where I saw this mentioned)
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. (Didn't see this at the cinema so decided to borrow the book.)
High Street by J.M Richards and Eric Ravillious (Couldn't get to see the Eric Ravillious film but found the library had this to look at)
The Barn by Sally Coulthard
Then There was One by Joyce Dennys ( I've read her wartime fiction short stories which were good)
The Seat of the Scornful by John Dickson Carr - another British Library Crime Classic
Give Unto Others by Donna Leon. Her most recent crime set in Venice
Old London Bridge by Patricia Pierce. (borrowing this after the London Bridge talk at Over 60's in June)
The Lamplighters by Emma Stonex -(think I saw this on a blog)
Old Bones Lie by Marion Todd ( next in the series that I'm reading)

On the right at the bottom
Our Wild Farming Life by Lynn Casseells and Sandi Baer - (From the TV programme)
The Sentence is Death by Anthony Horowitz - (The second in the series where he puts himself in the story)
The Sound of Being Human; How Music Shapes Our Lives by Jude Rogers (not sure why I ordered this)
The Book Woman's Daughter by Kim Michele Richardson (set in the Appalachians and about delivering books- saw it on a blog I think)

The last lot?
Seems an age since early July when the mobile library manager kindly delivered this lot because the van had already missed two visits

Those that I read (11) are on the separate Books Read 2022 page and there were  4 I didn't read - The D.E.Stevenson was really light rubbish, The Adam Nicholson book had whole chapters about the various creatures found on the beach - which didn't really interest me. Unsettled Ground didn't appeal and neither did 12 Birds to Save your Life when I had a closer look at it although it's so long ago that I can't remember why.

Back Soon

  2. You have a good selection to get your teeth into there. I thoroughly enjoyed 'Where the crawdads sing'. I read the book a while ago and akso enjoyed the film. Usually when I have read the book the film is a letdown but not in this case. At the moment I am reading a Jojo Moyes book which I am enjoying.

    2. I don’t think it matters really…the first one and Hamnet were my two choices of books in 2021 or maybe 2020…I read several hundred books a year for review for Netgalley…my daughter also gets the real books…mine are on iPad…I loved loved the first one and I loved the second one…not a series…two stand alone…enjoy

  4. Goodness, we're not allowed anything like that number of books at one time. Although it's tiny our local library survived the pandemic and is now open Tuesday and Thursday.
Must re read Where the Crawdads Sing, so much hype and hoopla now yet I can't think why.

    1. We can have 20 - even in the small libraries but I always order and they've usually come from somewhere else

    1. I laughed about it years ago that I was a one woman campaign to keep it going - still is so it must have worked

  6. What a great haul.

I have gone a bit crazy on Borrowbox and Libby lately - it is wonderful to be able to download books for free.

    Enjoy

  8. What a lovely pile! I think I own that London Bridge book though I've yet to read it. I also have Crawdads and The Lamplighters, we seem to have similar tastes.

    1. I might have got the idea for the Lamplighters from your blog perhaps!

  9. The library arrives at your doorstep. That is pretty amazing. You should be set for a little while. This seems like a good selection of books.

  10. Hooray! A nice pile of books to read!
I have that Anne Perry book on hold at my library and have just started reading her Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series again. It has been so long since I read them that I have forgotten "who done it" so I can enjoy them again. :)

  14. Where The Crawdads Sing has quite the waiting list in our library. I have heard wonderful things about this book and the movie.

    God bless.

  15. Your monthly list gives me plenty to look for at my library. Sometimes I’m lucky other times not so. I’m finding more and more of the earlier books are ‘online’ only……not for me unfortunately, I miss out because I just don’t enjoy reading that way.

  16. Another great lot of books. I'm doing well with my reading overall this year, but this month I'm not really drawn to the book I'm reading. Sometimes there are books I get through in hours - especially if the story pulls me in and others seem to take forever.

  17. I bought the Lamplighters in Cornwall and am looking forward to it (but have a lot of library books to read first). I was thinking about trying Donna Leon again but the first one was not in at the library this afternoon when I was looking for an audiobook. The one I had by Emily Giffin was so bad I had to return it after one CD - I realized too late that it was a roman a clef about John F. Kennedy Jr and I was revolted that someone would try to make money from his ill-fated life.

  18. That's a really good mix of books. I have heard so much about the Crawdads book but haven't gotten round to reading it yet, I look forward to your opinion of it.

  19. Try as I might, and I really did try, I could not get into Crawdads. Several people said that it gets better when you get into it, but if a writer can write so well later in the book, then why not from the beginning? I want to be hooked within the first couple of pages
